How To Tie A Tie: The Windsor Knot & The Four-in-Hand Knot

  • How To Tie A Tie
Alright guys first things first I apologize for saying four hand knot instead of "four IN hand knot" every since I was a kid I left out the in. Anyway.....
    The Windsor Knot
Today we're walking through exactly how to tie a tie specifically the Windsor knot and the FOUR IN HAND knot. These two different knots will have you covered for virtually every social situation you're ever in.
The Windsor knot is a more formal knot appropriate for work, weddings, job interviews you name it. It's also a more bulky knot and not something I generally advise with knit ties. A ticker fabric makes this knot very unreasonable.
    The Four-in-Hand Knot
The Four-in-Hand knot is a more casual knot very suitable for a date or a night out at a bar. If you're wearing something like jeans and a button up and you want to add a splash of color or a contrasting pattern with a tie keep it casual with the Four-in-hand knot.

My sister got married like 15 years ago, and I had no idea how to tie a tie. My brother-in-law tied a four-in-hand knot for me when I attended their wedding. I kept the tie tied like that, and just put it over my head and reused it every time I needed to wear a tie. That knot was tied longer than their marriage lasted. But recently, I realized that it was looking pretty rough. My neck wasn't the same width, and I knew I needed to untie the knot and do it again. Well, tonight I decided to do exactly that. I untied the knot, and then I tried watching two other videos to tie the tie. I could not follow them all of the way through. I followed your video, and I tied a Windsor knot, and then I untied the knot and tied it again. It looks really great! The Windsor looks much more professional, too! Thank you so much!

My 7 year old son really wanted to be Harry Potter for Halloween and he needed his tie tied. I have never tied a tie and hubby is at work and the school party is tomorrow!!!! I tried a couple of other videos and just wasn't getting it. Your video worked for me! Three attempts and I perfectly tied a Windsor knot ever and one extremely happy/proud boy that wants to be a gentleman and learn to tie a tie with your video (Windsor is his favourite) thank you I really appreciate this video. Very proud mommy moment and core memory with my little wizard/gentleman❤️💖🤗

Thanks to my Marine Corps father I learned how to tie my tie at age 11. I am 56 now my father passed in 2015 but I still have brother's in law, friends and young fellow co-works asking for me to tie their tie. I don't mind and think of my father everytime. RIP DAD and thank you.

I have never seen that third step in a Windsor knot before, they always go over instead of under, but this looks much better then all other videos I have seen and gives me a nicer and evener knot :) Thanks for the video

Thank you so much. As a kid my father always tried to teach me off course your kid your not going to pay attention lol. Then I had another opportunity to learn from my Boy Scout but that didn’t work until I got older and learn from TH-cam but didn’t took it serious until now at the age of 38. Last Saturday I lost my father not from covid but other health issue and your video just learn with frustrations lol I got it down pack I just taught my nephew and he got it down pack. I just made my dad proud that his grandson is learning young. Thanks again.

Perfect! You have to make those two triangular shapes "to make it balance" and therefore make the triangular shape in the middle..👔👔👔👔
