- This is a quick video on how to convert a traditional power wheels car or truck from 12V to 24V. This also works for any electric car that runs the same way a power wheels brand does. Super simple so I give a how to video to help anyone that wants to make their kids machines double there speed!

Quick question, with these powerwheels, when you select slow speed on the switch, what's actually happening? What makes the car go slower than if Hugh speed was selected?
The reason I ask is because I have a similar car for my son but I've noticed that it has no speed controller box or Govenor, just the slow/high speed switch. Just curious how that works
It's got a voltage controller in there somewhere that will reduce the voltage in slow mode. The switch connects to a control board or resistor somewhere to take the voltage to the motor down. Kind of just like a speed controller box but just using a switch instead of a knob.
I'm surpised the motor reverse/forward switching relays dont start smoking with 24V and upto 50Amps running through them. What are they rated at ?
I'm not quite sure but I've never had a problem and I've done this setup on over 10 power wheels
Wouldn't it have been easier instead of stealing the female connector from a battery, just cutting the connector off and making your own plugs for the wires? And also, did you not change the motors to 24 volt motors? I'm surprised it doesn't burn up
I am looking at buying the Yamaha four wheeler. The blue one you have. Does it use the same adapter as the power wheels?
Unless the brand is power wheels, it'll be a different connection. You can build your own adapter. Look at my video about putting lights on the green quad. That has a different adapter
I have a Jeep just like this one and it does great. But I got ranger built by huffy and it has really large tires and it was super slow. After converting to 24 it did great but now it goes less than 5 minutes then it stalls. I think the motors are overheating. Any help would be great
Either the motors are overheating or the battery are losing too much juice too quick.

Depends on how much weight is in the jeep. The heavier they are, the more power the battery have to dish out to get the motors to move. Try a 40 or 50 Amp fuse and see if it blows them
Don’t you need to upgrade the motor as well? My son has a Jeep Wrangler 4x4 and when I asked a technical friend of mine he said I must upgrade the motors/gearboxes otherwise they would “burn”. But here on TH-cam everyone seem to just upgrade the battery and keep the original motors.
It is pushing the motors to the max but they can handle it. If they burn out, replace them with heavier duty ones. But until then, let it ride!
Amazon has lots of upgraded gearbox and battery adapter. Stock 12volt motor works perfectly fine with an upgraded to a dewalt drill 20v battery, it's fast! Kids love it!...
Sometimes it depends on the build quality of the 12v motor your working with.

Great video - good advice. My sons power wheel jeep only has reverse now. Forward isnt working. I upgraded his battery to a Ryobi 18V and he's been riding it with no issues for a month. then all of a sudden yesterday he went to get in it and it doesnt go forward. when he hits the pedal while in forward you can hear a click noise then nothing happens. reverse works fine. do you have any suggestions? thank you in advance

Do you use the original power wheels charger and charge as you would? I assume it takes twice as long to get to a full charge with two batteries as it would with one?
No I use a generic 12v battery charger being that the adapter for the power wheels battery doesn't fit. They are not expensive and I use 2.

I seen so many say they burnt stuff How do i avoid frying my radio and light and control unit? If I don’t run accessories and just have a race car will my control system handle that or do I need to upgrade
If it's a 12v system for accessories, don't hook it up to the 24v system itll fry it. Run a separate system for the accessories
I burnt my son's motors up on his off-brand power Wheels Lamborghini with an 18 volt Milwaukee battery. I'm wondering if I convert to 24 volts motors and gears, if running a 24 volt battery would be the same speed as running 12 volt on a 12 volt system. That's what I'm trying to find out before I order these
It definitely should be because those motors are more powerful

Since you are using the original power wheels connector, can we use the original power wheels charger to charge both batteries together. Or do you need to charge them individually??
You wouldn't be able to charge it because it is designed for a 12v battery and charging them together is a 24v system.

Will this work with newer power wheels with Bluetooth and led lights? Will everything still work?
Here's the problem. If other accessories are wired to the battery and they are only 12v, it'll fry them to where they'll smoke and possibly catch fire. Trust me I've done this on other 12v ride on toys and it's started to smoke.
Awesome video! If I swap one of these 12v batteries into my son’s little car that currently has a 6v, wouldn’t I need to also swap in a 12v controller?
Idk about a new controller but those 6v motors can't take as much power as the 12v can. And make sure there are no accessories hooked up to the bv battery otherwise it'll melt and you'll smell it.

Run 2 Milwaukee m12 batteries and you will just be swapping them out instead of pulling out those 12v scooter type batteries to recharge

Just buy a 12v charger from Amazon and charge each 12v battery individually. It's very simple.

My kid's car is 12V. Is it possible to replace that 12V car with a 24V battery? Since the motors in the 12V car are 12V motors and lighting systems, is it okay to install a 24V battery instead?
Yes as long as a fuse protector is used. Also if there are electronics hooked up to the battery, the 24v will blow them all out (might see smoke) so if the car has electronics (music, sound buttons etc.) Then hook them up separately to a 12v or disconnect them completely

If youre still looking theyre spade connectors and you can use any 12v or 24v batteries from amazon, 24v may or may not break teeth in the gearbox though
Go on Amazon and look for "12 volt 5 ah" batteries. Which are deep cycle batteries suitable for these toys.
It Might Be a stupid question... But I have an extra 6v battery and a car which is 12V... If I connect it just like you did but I would use the 6V to start with... Will it make any diference and if it gonna even work... Thanks
It would work and you'd see a difference but it wouldn't be drastic.
12 volts + 6 volts in series =18 volts. More than stock 12 volt setup but less than 24 volts.

All you do is get a 12v battery charger. Takes approximately 4 hours per battery but the chargers are around 10 bucks
I did this conversation, but the batteries aren't charging with the factory 12v charger. So i ordered a 24v charger and it didn't do anything. Do I need to wire it in parallel to get them to charge?
Hey there! New subscriber here- I have a 24v car that won’t charge- any suggestions on troubleshooting? The green light comes on the charger but after hours of charging is still basically dead.
Couple questions...are you charging both batteries at the same time with a 12v charger? What charger are you using? Does the light ever turn red?

No because the plug will not work. Get a generic 12v charger for each battery. They're like 8 bucks.

Just bought some cheap 12v charger off Amazon and it works great for both.
So you have to use 2 of the 12v? You can’t just use a 24v battery
Oh you can if you want. I don't have a 24v charger and if a smaller kid wants to ride, just plug in one of the batteries instead of both.
I did that but i am blowing fuses. Have you had that problem
I havnt but it all depends on the weight that the batteries are pulling. Try running it with no one in it and see if they still blow. Should be a 30amp fuse used if you're not already using one.

Works but plastic tires they go bad or they crack.
Ya either replace or cut up a bike tire and screw it into the tire. Excellent grip, but drifting goes away.
You should add a speed controller. They’re cheap. Putting 24V directly in a 12V system is going to burn out your motors faster.
If you were going to make it last awhile absolutely but if you don't care, then send it! Also, if you get bigger motors, the power will deliver way better.

My control board fried almost instantly 😔
Was the fuse protector installed cause that should have blown before anything else
Same worked for awhile now it don't run at all when I added 24 volts think I'm going to take out all the wiring and have to rewire the whole thing
You never try to charge the battery with house plug
12v charger that plugs into a house plug works perfect.
