- This week I am painting up the Mortisan Executioner, Mir Kainan from the newest Warhammer Underworlds DIrechasm: Kainan's Reapers warband miniatures set!
This model is going to make a great future Dungeon and Dragons or other dark, fantasy, or horror roleplaying game mini boss! Plus it was a lot of fun to play with some more neutral and natural color palettes again. 😊

Man that model if converted rightly could be perfect for a character from Netflix's Castlevania. But really loved the paint job, Angela!

@@HobbyNight hell yeah, also with some sculpting with green stuff, maybe (sorry for possible spoilers) Death. Actually castlevania really temps me to make a vampire based army. A blood Knight unit lead by Godbrand lol

OOooh bet that will look great! I almost did that on Kainan but I was worried a more yellow gold would conflict with the bone coloring too much and become muddy looking at a distance.

Outstanding job as always. I can totally see this guy being the main protagonist in a D&D campaign. In fact, I can see him as the main guy in Tomb of Horrors. If not that, a campaign that is more on the cerebral side than hack and slash.
I hope there is something out of the new Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft that I can use him for!

Looks great! I really like how the shyish purple over the metallic paint turned out. I'll have to remember that for later projects. Also shout out to the Chaos Cultist for all the behind the scenes work.
this looks amazing! i relised the same thing about leaving him off the base, while watchin this ive built and got the first coat of skeleton horde and then drybrushedushabti bone, now kantor blue for the armour! looking forward to more content!!

Great color scheme! The only thing I might have modified a bit would have been a slightly brighter purple, along the lines of your pants in the 'Hit that like' commercial interlude... Oh right... *hits that like*
And if I'm the Chaos Cultist, I'm investing in some helmets and other armor...
That looks really great. I should get around to trying some contrast painting at some point. I need to steal the leather idea for a LOTR troll chieftain that I need to paint for a Fall of Arnor campaign later this year.
A couple of years ago I painted the Sepulchral Guard set for Underworlds because I wanted to have a play with typhus corrosion, ryza rust and nihalik oxide for tarnishing effects. Originally I was going to paint them all standard skellie bone colour with a brown wash and some highlights. I noticed that one of the miniatures was wearing a crown and realised that it was more likely to have been entombed than buried. So, to give a sense of moldering bones I switched to a green wash for that one figure. It worked surprisingly well. Entered them into a competition and won a mug!

I could totally see painting that guy in metallics and use him as a Necron Overlord.
He does have a great 'war scythe' already

Citadel washes will become matte by being shaken prior to application. So, to reduce gloss, shake the sh*t out of your bottle.
I'd love to see Duncan Rhodes tell us to "Shake the sh*t" out of our paints.
Excellent paint job. My only suggestion would be to maybe push the highlights on the bone a smidge more just to add a little more variety of color.
It's a very H.R. Giger inspired design, isn't it? I do love me some Giger artwork, and someday I'm going to figure out how to paint up, say, a Warmachine Cryx miniature in a scheme inspired by the Xenomorph colors. If it had been me, I would have highlighted up the purple bits and the scythe blade with some silver edge highlighting to make them pop out some more, or stippled some silver over it for variation in color, but I'm just persnickety like that. Looks good either way, though!
It is very difficult for me to choose only one band in each Warhammer Underworlds Season.
I can't break: I like either da orks, or these Ossiarchs, or the CRAB.
I can't wait to paint that little crab!
He looks great. I experimented with contrast over silver for my Iron Golems for Warcry and it came out a nice metallic turquoise, very alpha legiony.
Now I'm wondering where can I get my own butt cape

Ok, what did you do with the real Angela? There is no Flesh Tearers Red on this model. Looks great though and I really like the patchwork cloak.

Wow! Amazing paint job! How do you make the cape (flat areas) look so smooth with contrast paints?
Large brush and a loaded up brush so that I had plenty of paint to move around and get an even coating. And then layering color to darken some of the tones and get a slightly more opaque finish.
