Seriously. I CAN NOT stop listening. This song is now the theme song of my life. I hear it in my head when I'm walking the streets, when I'm pouring up a glass of wine, when I work, when I smile. It's the most beautiful song I've ever heard.
these two brothers have saved my life and help me through each path i take. I am so grateful for everything they do and sing. Heart and soul these guys can express in words what i feel and yet cannot form into words.
There is music that inspires and music that entertains, Seth Avett does both. I often wonder what is going on inside this man to produce such a sound. Truly he is made of music. Simple beauty
Wow ... I have loved Nicole's version of this song and been an Avett Brothers fan for years and never knew this video existed. This is absolutely amazing.
I am very glad I heard this version first. Perhaps if I heard Nicole do it live I might've enjoyed it more, however, I doubt she could have given my goosebumps some of their own. This is damn wonderful.
Inspired performance of an already outstanding song. Really glad to come across this. Technically and emotionally challenging song to pull off, and you have to give it up to him for doing so.
I really appreciate you sharing this stuff. It's a real intimate feel, almost feels like we (the ears) are jamming along with you. it's truly feel good stuff. thanks again. lulu
Seth's the man. For sure. His voice is jus so powerful and BAM in your face(ears). I mean, I love Scott too, don't get me wrong, buh idk, Seth speaks to me more in some kind of way. It could be that his beard speaks telepathically with mine, I wouldn't be surprised. Buh holy shit, I thought he was falling out of his seat during that one part.
I hope Nicole Atkins has seen this so she can bask in the visual proof that she is one sexy amazing musician!!!!!!!!! Xoxoxo Nicole and Seth!!!!! Good move Seth.
big thanks, trying to find a suitable key for me to sing it in...and thus play it in. prefer not using a capo so i can move more freely up and down the neck...but still trying to get my ears in tune.
the avett brothers are better just raw like this, its real music. its there with no curtains hiding anything. it is just music in its raw form which is where it should be absolutely beautiful job seth p.s. bitchen beard
John, read this carefully, I never advocated for anyone to not 'love' his music. There are no hidden meanings in my first statement. I stand by my statement, technically, there are thousands of guitarists who would smoke him, thats just a simple pure fact, not an opinion. And it doesnt mean you have to stop liking his music
syn707 I agree, there are many guitarist much better than seth. But people listen to him not for his guitar talent, but for other reasons. For me it's his passion he puts into his music and his sincere and meaningful lyrics.
Raw music, yes. But, across this great country of ours, he is far from unique. There are thousands that can play an instrument and sing, many better, some not so. Listen to his version of operator, and he has a signature Martin guitar? I'll get blasted by Seth's fans but the truth be told.
Like so many others, you completely miss the point. Everyone thinks it's about being able to play an instrument and sing and wonders why hardly anyone cares when they get good at those things. Seth is a great SONGWRITER. People who can play and sing, yes they are a dime a dozen. People who can write songs like him are a very rare breed. Yes this particular video is a cover, but guaranteed if it weren't for the songs he's written, this video would have 120 views instead of 120,000
@Romancandle5929 Very well-said, I couldn't agree more. I think you hit the nail right on the head. And I would add to that, it's his sincerity. In everything he does. Scott also. The entire band, in fact. They have heart, passion, and sincerity. And their fans know it. Feel it. And appreciate it. No. We are GRATEFUL for it. Critics may not appreciate them due to some flaws they may have, but none of that really matters. They write songs that human beings can relate to. It's just a matter of time before the rest of the world knows who they are. It's already happening. And they just keep improving at their Craft. While maintaining that true heart.
wow!! incredible, beautiful, amazing!! ...and a bit off track, but am i the only one who thinks Seth looks like Brent Mydland in this video?? Brent was the grateful dead's keyboardist in later years of the dead's career. (for those who don't know).
listened to this 15 yrs ago.. still almost brings me to tears... bravo sir.
Still listening 2020 for the hundreth time.... Wish this was on Spotify! One of my absolute favorites!!

Man this brings back memories. I used to binge all the darling albums and his solo vids every time I felt down ❤
Out of the hundreds of Avett Videos I've watched. I'd have to say this is at the top. What a gorgeous voice Seth has.
I could listen to the Avett brothers forever and ever....Amazingly touching
LOVE
Thanks a lot for posting
This is one of my all time favorite things. ❤
Chills on my chills on my chill's chills. Damn Seth.
There is music that inspires and music that entertains, Seth Avett does both. I often wonder what is going on inside this man to produce such a sound. Truly he is made of music. Simple beauty

these two brothers are good at two things, making the perfect music and growing the perfect beards
I really appreciate you sharing this stuff. It's a real intimate feel, almost feels like we (the ears) are jamming along with you. it's truly feel good stuff. thanks again. lulu
I think I've started to cry a bit.
Thank you.
the not-so-christmas lights are as brilliant as his voice and piano skills.
Seth is just such an amazingly talented musical badass.

@MrStrusz Agreed, Nicole is amazing. You folks owe it to yourselvesd to check out her original version of this live on Letterman!
He does Nicole justice. Which ain't easy.
I Love Seth Avett and his music more than anything.
But I respect your opinion.
I love the pureness of this. If anyone has the chords to this, I would love to have them.

I had no idea!!!!!!!
I love beer too Seth
I'd like to hear them sing it together.
i'd like to hear them sing it together.
I hope Nicole Atkins has seen this so she can bask in the visual proof that she is one sexy amazing musician!!!!!!!!! Xoxoxo Nicole and Seth!!!!! Good move Seth.
Anyone have any clue what kind of piano that is? I love that old feel it has to it. It's not all clean like a classical piano would be.
if you like this, search Seth singing MARY, a little similar.
Right, because that's always how it works.
wow. incredible!!! i like it more than from nicole
big thanks, trying to find a suitable key for me to sing it in...and thus play it in. prefer not using a capo so i can move more freely up and down the neck...but still trying to get my ears in tune.
so, can anyone tell what key he is actually playing in? i think its Cm. but could be way off.
i wish i could just sit next to him, for like forever
@ifitsthebeaches27 I'm at work trying to do the same thing. its impossible. Productivity is down, but inspiration is way, way up.
hahahaha i wouldn't actually turn gay but its just a figure of speech for how good he is!!!!!
I would turn gay for Seth Avett!!!!!!
the avett brothers are better just raw like this, its real music. its there with no curtains hiding anything. it is just music in its raw form which is where it should be
absolutely beautiful job seth

For me, not as sexy as Nicole Atkins, but a great cover: sends a tingle, especially from around 3 mins in :-)
definitely more passionate than scott.
you mean you would come out of the closet finally for seth avett?
Raw music, yes. But, across this great country of ours, he is far from unique. There are thousands that can play an instrument and sing, many better, some not so. Listen to his version of operator, and he has a signature Martin guitar?

You sound kinda sour grapesy.
