    Sinatra was and still to this day, the most generous person in the entertainment industry. Having personally helped raise and donate 1Billion$ to charities and regular folks all around the world and that was from the 50s-1990s. His manager recalled only after Frank died (because he never wanted any credit or attention for it), he used to send anonymous checks for 5K, 10K and more to complete strangers bc he saw them on the news in a tragic situation. The checks had a company name on it so they never knew who sent it. When boxing champ Joe Louis became ill, Sinatra covered all of his medical bills and also paid Sammy Davis Jr's 1M+ tax bill to the IRS so he didn't lose his house. He performed at prisons for the charity Dismas House, to give the inmates a sense of their humanity back(seen in this video) . He was the first major white performer to stand up for black musicians in the 40s, when they weren't allowed to stay at certain hotels or play at some venue. He had the clout to tell those places if they weren't allowed, he wouldn't perform either. The stories go on and on. Name anyone in the business since then who could match him.

    I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking to Sinatra five times when I lived in New York. We were not nuddies or anything, but he always recognized me and was very friendly, introducing me to his wife Barbara once. The segment in the recording studio aleays brings tears to my eyes. Thank you, Francis.

    I've LOVED Sinatra since I was about 13. Now I'm 69 and I still have probably over 100 of his songs on my iPod. To me he will ALWAYS be immortal. One of the highlights of my life was when my husband took me to see Sinatra live in about 1983.

    The amazing magic that makes one a LEGEND is the ability to touch a life, even after his own; Sinatra’s legacy still resonates with even the youngest performer simply because of his ever- evolving relevance. His conviction was conveyed through a smiling, eye- piercing charm that was truly second to none. I admire his craftsmanship and must say that he truly deserved the title The Voice. He was an irreplaceable talent. My favorite- hands down.

    Watching Sinatra ( and drinking in every note) in the studio ( especially on the classic “ It Was a Very Good Year”) is a singular experience- he is so compelling and charismatic with his trademark shoulder shrugs and fractional head movements to accompany his deeply moving and personal vocal performance, you can see in his eyes how much he’s enjoying his absolute command of the song, the lyric, the melancholy wistfulness that he communicated better than anyone before, or since. Sinatra was, and always will be in a category of his own, as it should be.

    It matters little whether you liked Sinatra or not, there is no disputing that he WAS the singing legend of the 20th century! A talent beyond reproach, and a pretty good guy, unlike most people realize, he gave away literally millions of dollars to help people in need, often those he never knew but just heard they needed help, and of course he helped his friends, band members, as well. A perfectionist whose talent demanded that, and in life in general also. Those days of the great talents of that era are gone and so far, very few have come forth to replace them today. We will always remember them for what they gave us then, and now, with their music recordings and live performances, now on the advanced technology equipment that enhances them to the perfection Sinatra would have condoned!.

We listen to their finished music, watch their finished films but have no idea of the human and work behind it all. I am not even a Frank's fan but I am learnig to admire him lately. I thank those who had this idea all those years ago and thnk you for posting.
    I always wondered that there should have been done this kind of documentary with Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire, showing their everyday rehearsals, creations and etc.

    Make no mistake about it. Sinatra knew music. Inside and out. His ear for music was outstanding. And boy did he work for his career. The myth that the Mafia elevated his career, is just not true when u look at the facts. The mafia just owned all the venues in the decades Sinatra was popular in. That’s how he knew the Mafia. Singer Eddie Fisher knew them too, for the same reason.

    • @JustMe-gs9xi
      @JustMe-gs9xi ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i agree with all you've said about his musical gifts,,, he put life into the songs. the mafia stuff, it's real, they did anything he asked. he grew up in NJ when the mob ran the town. he was on the path to being one of them since 14. the only thing that changed it was his singing. he never cut ties with the mafia,,it doesn't work that way.

  • @mjlejer3241
    @mjlejer3241 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Half the world loved Frank Sinatra and half the world didn't, were critical and jealous of him as competitors are wont to be, but there is NO denying that he was an incredible musical artist, his demand for appearances and his record sales showed that, his recordings are STILL selling, while fads like Elvis, the Beatles, and other singles as well as combos gradually have faded much more. There were other great singers like Vic Damone, Perry Como, Matt Monro and a couple of others who were also great singers in that era, but most couldn't really compete with Sinatra, and FS won the limelight over others. Jack Jones is one of the few who lasted, but he needs to retire if he hasn't already, as his voice is failing him.
    In the music business, you must know when to hang it up, but many still go on long after they should have stopped performing. When Sinatra had a memory lapse in singing the lyrics to a song at the end of his career, he KNEW it was time to hang it up and he did. But then, he was a perfectionist and could not stand mistakes! Others deal with their errors, laugh it off and go on, but not Sinatra!

    It took about 50 years of age to appreciate Mr. Sinatra and I believe that he is one of a kind, the greatest singer/entertainer ever. There are still radio programs in my area that are nothing but two hours of nothing but Sinatra. I don't know of any other singer/entertainer that you could do that with. And I think that 20-30 years ago there were 4 hours programs of nothing but Sinatra.

    1st saw this entire 1965 special by tv's 60 minutes aired that awful night he went away on May 14th, 1998 at Cedars Sinai Hospital of a massive heart attack & taped it of course & still own it. A MUST SAVE! Ironically my A #1 all-time favorite number & by anyone is his '65 IT WAS A VERY GOOD YEAR filmed a top of Capitol records aka The House Sinatra Built still standing in mid Hollywood But strangely all the rat Pack was very much separated in death Frank chose a stunningly regular & humble grave in his beloved Palm springs, CA (Desert Memotrial Park) so modest most fans can't locate him. He was interred with a red scarf, bottle of Jack Daniels, pack of cigs & a full pocket of change in case he hit the slots up there. & his home also in Palm springs still-standing, for now. also strangely I was online watching Frank, jr doing interviews on youtube & people were then writing in about Frank, Jr & about his legendary dad & I just had to let all know, they had no idea that Frank, jr-(l944-2016) recently dropped dead on stage performing, also heart failure. as for Dino-(Dino Crocetti) of whom Frank thought was thee single funniest man that ever lived. Didn't reall;y booze it up as much, Henry Silva once looked at the mini bar & most was apple juice. He died around Christmas of 1995 at age 78, though looked a decade older. Chose Westwood, cem near Marilyn Monroe's famed niche
    Poor & multi talented Sammy Davis, Jr smoked sooo much even Sinatra nicknamed him "Smokey" an avg of 6pks a day. He only made it to age 64 in 1990 dying of lung cancer & Smokey chose the legendary & mountainous Forest ;Lawn, cem in Glendale, CALIF.

    Sinatra sang in a prison in 1965-see the black man with a razor slash on his cheek. Johnny Cash sang in Folsom Prison in 1969.

    It wasn't a coincidence that the three all died primarily of cigarette smoking damages to their lungs and hearts. Being "cool" included killing yourself. They were so stinky talented, Frank was the Voice and what an actor. I watched him play Maggio against late last night, what an incredible film "From Here to Eternity" Lancaster, Kerr, and Montgomery Cliff with Frank made one of the best films ever made.

      Yes sometimes being cool comes with a price. But whiskey and smoking helps with that’s manly raspy voice. I bet you James dean and Marilyn Monroe wouldn’t be as big as they have become since they died young. Forever remaining young in our imagination. Now look at that fool De Niro. Destroying his legacy with his recent movies and political garbage.
