In an interview he was asked what a man should do and his answer was "whatever God tells you to do". We have forgotten what gifts come from following that higher law of life. We are fallen.
Yes, 100%. I am glad to have witnessed this band live several times. The charisma Edwards has is out of this world. First I saw them was as an opening act for Deus and Morphine at Crossing Border Festval in The Hague many years ago. Never heard of them, but That same week I bought the first album and EP. They were better than the 2 bands that played later that night. Also, they were better as a three piece than the extended band of 6 or 7 in the end. Today I will let my 14 year old son listen to this song, just to show him what a bandoneon is. He normally does not listen to this kind of music. Maybe I will also introduce him to the Black Soul Choir. 😀
@@Nehalennia-hl1el He came out with it just this year I think. He also did one with Alexander Hacke (of Einstürzende Neubauten) under both their names, in 2018. I think it was called Risha?
Fucken hell. I have heard a few songs from these guys over the years, but I wasn't expecting this. My 15/04/2021 16 Horsepower deep dive is paying off.
I frequently feel sad that I won't be able to see certain bands or artists live, but most of all those times, I am devastated that I could never see 16 Horsepower live
... Where have I been? This is like the greatest thing I have heard in years. Especially like the gloomy-groovy bandoneon loop and the black-metal-sounding guitar part that jumps in now and then.
saw these guys about 25 years ago opening up for Cowboy Junkies in Southern California. They were so good an hypnotic....I never remember the names of opening bands. They were that good. These guys are just wicked,
i've grown tired, of the words of the single man hangin' lifeless on his every word -- o man you don't understand dear man the little angel held out her hand sayin' father, father i love you o praise jesus i got her....... genious musician Edwards
I wasn't at Pinkpop, but that evening I saw D.E.E. at television. I was very touched by the performance. That week I went to R'dam were they did a gig and two years later also. It was a pity the band split. Woven hand misses the great volume, like thunderclouds packing together over your head. I never experienced such feelings during a concert than with 16 horsepower. Amazing what it did to me
I was at this concert :) Best concert I ever saw.....damn it was great!! There was an important soccergame so there weren't a lot of people....16 horsepower, sundown and love
My favorite band waiting for another album always and tour . I push wovenhand and 16 to all people spreading the good music is the least I can do.best thing in all 4 directions

Got here via Richmond Fontaine, so bloody glad about that. Never heard of the band before but what a great one. Sorry to here they're not around anymore, hopefully nothing tragic (apologies to anyone for my ignorance on this).
He's David Eugene Edwards (often called DEE). HIs current band is called Wovenhand. He's still putting out great music, experimenting, and such. Lots of Wovenhand on YTube.
Total in love with 16HP....discovered by some beatutiful music and drug junke who lives in the mountains.... spend some time over there! Lots of energy provided by 16HP
I'm pretty shure DEE plays a "Chemnitzer concertina" here. It's however closely related to the bandoneon. Wikipedia has an article on the Chemnitzer concertina.
I have a strong feeling that he's making music, not because he want's to, but because he has to. This level of necessity is rare these days.
His workshop fur god
Well said
Yes.
In an interview he was asked what a man should do and his answer was "whatever God tells you to do". We have forgotten what gifts come from following that higher law of life. We are fallen.
He has said this in some sorta way in a cool documentary I watched about folk music
David Eugene Edwards sitting down is thousands of times more intense than the most aggressive punk band standing.
lol ok
Exactly. Amazing intensity.
Glad that know others see that too.

Actually it’s a Chemnitzer Concertina. This brand was built in Chicago IL.
It’s not an accordion. It is a Chemnitzer concertina manufactured in Chicago Illinois. Circa 1950
@@oldboxman4306 I had heard a story that he (DEE) had found it in the trash.😮
Just discovered!! It’s 2024!! Obsessed !!!!
When they played live it was BREATHTAKING! The albums are also beautiful the first one is unbelievable!
You should check out his other band too, Woven Hand. Their album "Consider the birds" is an absolute classic.
YOURE LATE!!! Welcome to the party!!
Discovered: a long time ago. Still obsessed! Never before, never again.
@@RabbiJochanan Merci ! je ne connaissais pas cet autre groupe, et après écoute, en effet, c'est toujours la même émotion intense ...

Great performance. Sack cloth n ashes is one of the best albums ever made. Raw power
Still the best version of this song I've heard

Make sure you check the 2 meter session. It’s a Dutch misic program that has had the blessing of quite some gems of performances.

Sometimes a song will kick you in the stomach. It will motivate you, shame you and validate you in about 4 minutes. This is such a song.
Amazing, I'm addicted. That's how to build a song. A daily listen for me now.
Just listen his new album "Hyacinth".
this is so metal
Not enough thumbs up.
Reigning banjos
This is diesel
Nope. It's not. But lots of metalheads do dig this kind of music.
DEE defined 16HP music as "roots punk-rock", so this is not metal, this is punk inspired! and this was incredible energy live!

Please TH-cam, never delete this.. This is music... Beautiful, spiritual and raw music...
