whoah i was standing in the audience .First time i saw them, never heard of 16 hp before. But this concert was so good i just had to buy everything i could find of him afterwards. Worth every penny.
Is anything as lovely to me As the truth in love I'll take it over freedom any day It brings me ever an this time to my knees An on my knees I run away Yes I know your sticks an stones they They will easily break these bones an An all my words come back to haunt me I will put my strength into The things left standing I am hoarse with wild eyes No debts outstanding
I've seen and heard them playing so many times, both 16 Horsepower and Wovenhand, everytime amazing. Great music, David is really great, I love his music.
Saw them first time live 19 years ago in Effenaar Eindhoven. Still one of best concerts I have been to.Wovenhand coming later this year, have to get Some tickets.
+Thomas Leysen David Eugene Edwards created 16 Horsepower in Denver, Colorado in the 1990's. In the early-mid 2000's, he formed Wovenhand, which still tours regularly in Europe and a bit in the US. Check them out!
Oh man, what a great performance. I mean, 16HP always delivers, but videos don't always capture it right. This video does about as good of a job capturing it as I've seen.
Hello alex, i'm jacob, Secret South is also my favourite 16 Horsepower-album, but sometimes i'm more in the mood for heather nova's music and words, both great artists
@shadyman2000 - maybe it's better for them to stay like this. They are well hidden legends and I think that's great. All genres have these kind of amazing bands, all the way from techno to rock to hiphop to folk to no matter what genre someone likes and the best is to be found there. So don't worry, people with a nose for good unpolluted underground music, know where to find it.
Hmmm was there in the audience, on my way to St Germain. But just couldn't go until Eugene was done. Hooked on this ever since and listned to him so often that i kinda blame this band for getting my unreligious ass babtised and going to church. But this music translates God's power even more clear to me then all that. Bless you eugene !!!
i saw DEG open for swans in new york and at first i thought he sucked, but after a few minutes i was absolutely captivated. what an awesome performance. i'd like to see him again.
NOT SURE IF I HAVE THIS COMPLETELY RIGHT BUT HERE IS WHAT I HAVE. Is anything as lovely to me As the truth in love... no I'll take it over freedom any day It brings me ever an' this time to my knees An' on my knees I run away Yes I know your sticks and stones they They will easily break my bones an' An' all my words come back to haunt me I will put my strength into The things left standing I am hoarse with wild eyes No debts outstanding My hands are yours my brother You can take my coat as well My eyes are yours, sister And my heart, and my heart In which he dwells Heard the voice of my master callin' me From deep in the hollow Said that I must follow him there yeah Is any place darker for me With all them wolves about Well it's a poor mouth that I wear My hands are yours my brother You can take my coat as well My eyes are yours, sister And my heart, yeah and my heart In which he dwells
My favorite 16 Horse Power song along with Sinnerman... Να κανουνε live τα παλικαρια στο σουρουπο και να ακους να λενε αυτο το κομματι... Τι να πεις και τι να κανεις εκεινη την στιγμη...
I've been to one of their concerts (Ancien Belgique in Brussels), one of the best concerts of my life. Only Prince & Maceo Parker were better. Oh, and the Skattalites...
I can see that. He definitely pulls from early goth influences. He mentions it in the documentary about him. You should watch it. Nick Cave is another he mentions.
Any opinions on DEE's tuning for this haunting song? Listening to his beginning open chord (he's fiddling with a pedal or some other gizmo with his fretting hand), I'm hearing D-G-D-G-Bflat-D, from top to bottom.
This is my first and probably only comment on youtube, but I felt compelled. I'm not an atheist because I just don't care all that much, but I'm definitely not a believer of any stripe, and that's part of why I'm so drawn to DEE's music. It's fascinating to see someone reckoning with the brutal, bloody, almost gothic facets of Christianity, the ones that dictate that all you must do is seek God, but in the same breath tell you that you're hopelessly flawed, you'll never be worthy, and that you deserve an eternity of torment. People like David Eugene Edwards, who take on that feeling of torment while they're still alive and make incredible art out of it, are usually my favorite artists. I don't feel anything like that conflict, and I'm glad they can articulate it. Cormac McCarthy, Philip K. Dick, SWANS in a way, Exuma, Krasznahorkai, Will Oldham, Jackson C. Frank, Roky Erickson, etc. So much brilliant work might've stagnated without the fatalistic drive to appease an evil Christian God, or at least a visceral understanding of it, and I respect the people that turn that hopeless misery into astonishingly good music or literature. Maybe that's the route of the intelligent believer, and those without the capacity for self-examination are the ones we should be watching out for. And just to reiterate, I don't believe in Him, but I think it's safe to say that the version of God we're talking about here is a petulant monster. I don't mean to ramble or lecture, I just find this stuff fascinating. Cheers.

If I was pushed for my favourite 16 Horsepower song, this would be it. Epic on a transendental level.
A proof that music never stops evolving

Secret South is my favourite 16HP album and the album that moves me most spiritually.

It's Elin Palmer on violin, as it says on the description. The video is from 2000 anyway: his daughter wasn't very old at that time.
i saw DEG open for swans in new york and at first i thought he sucked, but after a few minutes i was absolutely captivated. what an awesome performance. i'd like to see him again.
floriimorii thanks bro....you got me hooked on this 20 something years ago...

My favorite 16 Horse Power song along with Sinnerman...
NOT SURE IF I HAVE THIS COMPLETELY RIGHT BUT HERE IS WHAT I HAVE.
Is anything as lovely to me
As the truth in love... no
I'll take it over freedom any day
It brings me ever an' this time to my knees
An' on my knees I run away
Yes I know your sticks and stones they
They will easily break my bones an'
An' all my words come back to haunt me
I will put my strength into
The things left standing
I am hoarse with wild eyes
No debts outstanding
My hands are yours my brother
You can take my coat as well
My eyes are yours, sister
And my heart, and my heart
In which he dwells
Heard the voice of my master callin' me
From deep in the hollow
Said that I must follow him there yeah
Is any place darker for me
With all them wolves about
Well it's a poor mouth that I wear
My hands are yours my brother
You can take my coat as well
My eyes are yours, sister
And my heart, yeah and my heart
In which he dwells
I concur
so nice and melodic song

Bedankt voor posten Erik Jan !! ..magistrale band, doodzonde dat ze niet meer bestaan..maar we blijven hopen???

I. like !!!!!

You sure have good tastes in music :)
the violins playing remembers me to John Cale
Where can we find the whole live concert ?
Edwards' voice, in my perception, is vaguely reminiscent of combination of Peter Murphy and Wayne Hussey...What an insanely great band.
I can see that. He definitely pulls from early goth influences. He mentions it in the documentary about him. You should watch it. Nick Cave is another he mentions.
and Jeffrey lee pierce
oui! above all Jeffrey Lee Pierce! It was so incredible to discover 16 HP just a few months after Jeffrey Lee's death (April 1996)

Waanzinnige opnames van pinkpop...
...or as Dylan Thomas wud've said: Bible black..
I still have a problem with the Christianity of the singer and songwriter.
He is brilliant, but this God thing, better not.

the music is ok but i cant take the pseudo-religious posturing
