Yes, he didn't say that at all in this video. Fyi, his exact words from a lecture he did to university students on investing was "to risk something you have and need for something you don't have and don't need is foolish..".
He said it by saying that Berkshire shouldn’t get involved in politics. The reasoning is because Berkshire has the potential to lose pro gun investors and is unlikely to gain additional anti gun investors cause they also already own shares of Berkshire.
By joining politics he is trading pro gun investors for a possibility of no replacement investors

From the point of view of someone outside the USA, if find it bizarre that there are so many guns in your country that gun control is influencing high level stock investment.
The U.S., as with any other society, has a particular history which gives rise to a particular culture. By analogy, France is such that they protest en masse all the freaking time over everything. And that's just France. Well, Americans cherish firearms, which are enshrined in the nation's Bill Of Rights for a legitimate reason. I don't foresee it changing any time soon.

Businesses that take an anti-gun stance generally suffer. There's no need to boycott a business over every little disagreement but people feel strongly enough about certain issues that they will go out of their way not to give a company money if they feel they are being attacked. You can't lash out against a group of people (gun owners in this case) and expect them to get in line to give you money. It is a foolish business move when companies take a stance and start to alienate over 100 million people in the United States.
Corporations should, including BH should not take a moral/ethical position on any social issues unless it makes money. Making money is the only thing that matters, period. Really?

Unless it is bought during an IPO or preferred shares directly from the issuer, owning stock in gun manufacturers does little if anything to aid the company. Most trades are private, from you selling Ruger to me buying it or vice versa...hence the terms stock exchange.
