If so, then I think you will find this video very helpful as we take an in-depth feature by feature comparison and under the hood look at the Harbor Freight Chicago Electric and the Ryobi RTS21G 10" table Saws. While the Harbor Freight model numbers have changes most of the features we will be looking at remain basically the same. I hope you find this video useful. If so, please press like and share with your friends. I will be coming out with more videos soon so be sure to subscribe. Thanks for watching and good luck on your projects.

    The first thing we all want to know-is the fence square to the blade or can it easily be squared to it. Then-does it cut straight edges consistently and easily? If yes to both then tell us about features. If no to either question it fails.

    • @WorkMateGuy
      @WorkMateGuy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sarah Watson The fence on both of these two saws are more difficult to align to the blade then either the Dewalt, Ryobi, Ridgid, or Bosch I have reviewed. This video ill give you some additional insights into these saws.

    The Harbor Freight is the Old Skil 3400. I have one since ‘88.
    A good not great saw. But it gets the job done. I recently mounted mine on a large shop workstation. Currently with table saw and DeWalt 10” compound miter station that hides.

      Hey Jay. The HF saw is limited in terms of ripping capacity as well as somewhat difficult in making accurate cuts. This video will give you a better idea of the differences in these saws: th-cam.com/video/ZM0Y6tnSJh4/w-d-xo.html
      My personal preference is the RIDGID R45171 because of the fence and Life Time Service Agreement.

    Thanks! I once had a cheap table saw which cut straight as an arrow. I don’t do long rips so three or four feet is about typical. For a short time I had access to an expensive Delta three phase table saw which used a 16 inch blade. That thing would breeze through a 4 x 4 as fast as you could shove it. I am in the market for a small table saw so this is very helpful.

    • @WorkMateGuy
      @WorkMateGuy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sarah Watson Yes, a delta with a 16 inch blade would cut through a 4x4 like a blow torch through butter. Too bad we can't find that in a small table saw :-)

    Excellent review. If I had to choose between the two, I would go with the Ryobi. However with that said, it would probably be better to save your pennies, cash in your aluminum cans, mow some neighbor's lawns until you can afford something better. The table saw is one of the most important tools in your shop and it is important that it makes accurate square cuts without too much fuss. I hear that the HF model is notorious for having a very inaccurate and difficult to use fence. Currently I would go with either the Hercules model at HF which gets excellent reviews or the Metabo, or the Dewalt. Any one of those would give you incredible results.

      Nothing below dewalt for job site tablesaw.. for diyer’s, mainly because it’s safer and quality of your cuts is better due to the stability of the product. HF, ryobi has plastic components which is why it’s cheap… I don’t trust the throat plate of the ryobi and I certainly don’t trust that fence lol… tablesaw is the most important tool for a wood worker and if they are serious about it sawstop is the best… but no diyer should go below dewalts saw…

I'm not a professional wood worker, and I don't cut wood often, but I'd like to get a table saw that I can use to make reliable, accurate, and clean cuts when it is needed (building fish tank stands, reptile enclosures, and for house projects/repairs).

      Do yourself a favor and do not buy a cheap table saw for your first table saw. Long time ago I bought a ryobi as a beginner and right out of the box is no good, for starters the miter slots are not standard (only brand in the world with custom miter slots) so you won't be able to buy any miter slot accessories. The miter gauge is loose as hell. The fence is not super accurate. If budget is not an issue I'd suggest to go with Dewalt or rigid. The money you'll spend will be paid for by not wasting your time in your first projects. If you are a intermediate / expert then of course you can make it work by building a cross cut sled.

    The only problem I see with this review is that you are comparing the Ryobi expanded table, table saw which is $269 vs the Harbor Freight Table saw which is $119. You should have compared the Ryobi regular 10 inch table saw that costs $189. The $189 Ryobi 10 inch table saw has a lot less features on it.

    Actually you left out one important fact on any of the smaller table saws. The fact that the case is plastic. If you are like me and do not have a shop that has conditioned air or is insulated, then plastic housings will dry rot rapidly. The conditioners in the plastic leech out rapidly if you live in a very hot humid climate like the deep South, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, etc. I know because I live in Mississippi and it can get extremely hot and humid in the summer. I bought a Ryobi BTS15 and the case went to pieces on me in about 4 or 5 years. Since then, I have been trying to replace the case, but I have multiple health issues that limits me to only a few hours a day in my shop when I am well. So what use to take me about 2-3 weeks now takes me several years to do. But when I go is up to Jesus Christ.

    Informative video but a tablesaw is the most important tool for anyone who is going to dabble with woods I learned that the hard way. I returned my ryobi and got me a dewalt for now but I will be moving up to a co tractors saw stop when I actually sell some furniture.
    I know you want to be helpful for those diyer who isn’t going to be using this table saw that often but I can’t in good conscience recommend this tool for anyone. It’s unsafe and it’s unreliable. It’s probably better to get yourself a track saw or make a circular saw jig. That throat plate is not sturdy at all. It wiggles when you slightly touch it. The fence annoying and you have to reset it ever so often. Tap tap tapping away… end up frustrating you and ruin your work piece… the. There’s that stand lmao….there’s so many videos of people who did unboxing of this table saw and the stand looks like it’s about to fold like a cheap lawn chair trying to hoist a 500lbs man…. That might be exaggerated but it’s not safe…. If all these stuff is cheaply made I don’t even trust the blade staying on its arbor… I certainly wouldn’t try to put a dado stack on that thing lol…. In regards to HF lol…. Their Chinese knock off tools is 🗑… only good thing from that place is some hand tools and clamps…. Everything else is cheaply made knockoffs

      The one that I had could not accept a dado blade as the shaft was too short.

    No offense but you sound like Christopher Walken's doppelganger.

      George Carlin, a character from King of the Hill, and now Christopher Walken... LOL. (I do take this as a compliment )

    I bought a Ryobi saw about 15 years back. Unless they have improved I would never suggest it to anyone. As far as the Harbor freight I have no idea. I have never bought any of their tools.

    Horror Tools electric anything is not a good quality plus only 90 days warranty because of that. Ryobi is much better quality and comes with 3 year warranty. Ryobi wins every time. I bought newest RTS23 but before I had another Ryobi, blue one and I left it outside in the rain and in the hot California sun. It lasted 20 years of light homeowner use.

    Thanks for this good review. I’ve been looking at these as well as this craftsman m.sears.com/craftsman-cm-craftsman-10-in-portable-table-saw/p-00941503000P
    I’m leaning towards the craftsman I think. I’ve got to cut some luan plywood 1/8 (under floor laminate is what it is) cover a plaster wall after removing old wall paper. Need a table saw to make life easier. Any feed back on the craftsman? Also how stable are some of these saws that come with foldable tables on wheels? I like the craftsman as well as the ryobi there’s two ryobi I’m looking at this one you reviewed and the one with the foldable rolling stand. Thanks! Josh

      jew0182 I think the determining factor may be the rip capacity especially if your going to be cutting larger sheets of plywood. In this case Ryobi may be the better choice. The table saws with fold able tables and on wheels can be very handy especially if your moving room to room. In this case your looking at the Dewalt or the Bosch. This convenience will run you about $100 more. So there are a number of variables depending on how you work and what your budget is. Also if your going to be doing a lot of cross cutting you may want to look into getting a miter saw if you have the budget. Thanks for stopping by and posting your question.

      WorkMateGuy thanks for getting back to me. I already have a miter saw (harbor freight) very pleased with it. My budget is about 200 for a table saw. So that leaves me ryobi craftsman or harbor freight pretty much. I like the built in stand for simple of moving it from my shed to the carport for my work/project.

      jew0182 You may be able to pick up a Ryobi R4516 for just about $200 because this model is being discontinued if not already. And the miter gauge and the rip fence are superior to both the Craftsman and the Harbor Freight. So keep an eye on Home Depot and do a google search for R4516 periodically, you may just find a good deal.

      WorkMateGuy Hey I actually bought the Ryobi R22 the one with the built in stand on wheels with expandable top. Haven’t gotten it together yet. I think it will suit me just fine. Time will tell
