I've always been amazed how far people get in a game in so little time. It takes me hours to get through most of the game and not even be able to do the boss fight!
Just saying, this run is not fully legit - at 12:23 he has 40HP and 4 nades, then he opens console, loads a savegame from a completely another run, and has 54HP and 5 nades. Other than that, it's a very great speedrun, enjoyed it thoroughly! Oh and before anyone starts hating on the speedrunner for this, let me mention that this even is less for doing official real speedruns, and more for just showing them to the public and watching them, so such things don't really matter a lot. I mean, he cheated, but seriously, who cares?
yeah Proto had to do that because he messed up a trick earlier involving blowing up boxes with a grenade to push them onto the next map. He decided in advance that if that happened he would have that save ready to make sure it was okay from the couch guy

PomP yes there are a lot of tutorials for test chamber skip, but there's none without crosshair. I think that they just had to practice a lot to lineup correctly without using a crosshair, but if you wanna do this trick you should do it with pause buffering, it's easier.
Proto discovered the skip, but apparently Maxam figured out how to do it without the crosshair, involving getting into that corner at a specific angle then not changing your angle at all until the trick
Yep. In Steam Half-Life you can choose between the 1998 "standard-definition" models or the 2001 "high-definition" models. In the PS2 port all models are the HD versions. In the HD Pack, the MP5 was changed to an M4 Carbine and the Glock 17 to a Beretta. All the other weapons just received minor changes.
How does he change fps? Others do it through pausing in other games in here it seems like a command that is sort of cheat(?) Know it's been used forever in half life runs though.
you can bind an fps command to any key or mouse button. like "fps_max 20" or "fps_max 99.5". Since you don't need cheats on to use it, it's not a cheat.
It's a marathon run and when your estimate is under an hour or under 30 min your +/- is like 4 minutes? It's not his legit runs he's wr holder there's probably like a dozen other points he would have reset in a non marathon in that run it wasn't 'competing' for the wr, which is like 21 minutes
i know bhop man its like cs 1.3 all over again but i think they did patch it in half life so u need to hold spacebare to jump like that otherwise its impossible even phoon cant do that
He is not using space bar, requires much more precision and shit, he use the wheel of the mouse, and scrolling he can buffer a LOT of jumps before touching the ground
e.g., in console: bind kp_end "fps_max 20"; bind kp_downarrow "fps_max 60" Press 1 on the numpad to limit framerate to 20, press 2 to set it back to 60.
VidaGoGo I can’t think of many games/categories where saving and loading are disallowed in speed runs. Obviously this run ended up using a backup save to make it more marathon safe, but it’s GDQ, not like he’s submitting this to a leaderboard.
I am far from a speedrun snob, and I understand that there are many different categories that runs fall under. That being said, wtf is with the rail console command? Is that allowed? I have never seen console commands allowed in a run. Can someone clarify this for me?
It's allowed because this isn't an official, leaderboard submitted run. Things have to be marathon safe to make it within the allotted time, so it's allowed, yes.

Half-Life has got to be my favorite game to watch for speedruns, the game just flows so smoothly.

jsXanatos I'm pretty sure the only custom key bind he used for this run was too make the jump bound to the scroll wheel for faster jumps.
nah we use a lot more binds that dont come in the options menu, like the fps values, crappy texture bind, weapon binds etc etc etc
