wow, I was just thinking the total opposite! I know i'm not 'qualified' to be a music critic but I would never listen to this total shit driving in my car. Does the album come with a box of tampons?
TBH you take it as a snapshot of that great time that was tail end of the ‘90s. Probs best they didn’t record the follow up either, from what I heard that material devoid of great riffs n hooks they splurged the lot on the one and that’s cool
Great band, gone too soon. Brilliant album Helme is a master writer and thoroughly nice chap. Seen him a few times now playing his acoustic music with 2 of his own brilliant albums out and a third coming out next year. Seahorses were a small slice of absolute brilliance.
@@plbingham just found a video documentary about it! and listened to the unreleased album on youtube, yea the Lara Croft song is strange, its called 'Tombraid' if you search 'Minus blue' the unfinished album is on youtube
Loved this choon. Always reminds me of a night not so much in keeping with the songs cool. it was round 99/2000 i think, my memory is sketchy on this. I was on the old compaq presario listening to tunes, I did have the CD so would use the ghetto blaster normally, but my older brother had taken it, or the case was there and disc wasnt (if you know, you know) so im sure i was listening on napster. Long story short, i had these great tunes on buzzing for a friday night and i was going to a mates 18th...but my mates family had a surprise for him, a party fire engine and burly fire men. so it was spice girls and pink party hats driving around Glasgow getting dogs abuse with memories of such epic solos all but gone for that part of the night haha what a time to be alive
Chorus vocals are pretty ropey, but this performance is a new one for me. Thanks for sharing. This band should have done SO MUCH more. Even their B-sides were brilliant!
If you’re referring to Ian brown yeah he’s not the best singer but if that’s all you can hear when listening to a roses song, you’re deaf when it comes to amazing music.
I feel sorry for these guys…. Squire put them through hell and left them with nothing after 3 years…. My respect for him collapsed after seeing the documentary….
Although I sdore Squire his style went rather conservative after first Roses' record, especially with The Seahorses. Although it is more complex I find it less innovative than his early sound.
It’s way too loud and almost him just showing how good he is. Which we know but I think the songs are poor. That last Roses one all 4 one is a really shit effort. The roses were done after Spike island
Give me that video of the Roses gig at the Empress Ballroom Blackpool any day. Other than Love Is The Law the other Seahorses songs weren’t that great. The early Roses had funk and Squires guitar wasn’t so overbearing. Don’t get me wrong I used to totally idolise Squire and I wish I could play like him- but good guitar is only good in the context of a good song. People don’t sing lead guitar lines in the shower. Noel Gallagher plays simple guitar parts but they work as part of a good song.
@@johnkelly1566 not in the same league as Slash, not remotely. John is a wonderful guitar player but Slash is a technically better player and more creative.
People say the Seahorses were a great band but they did nothing. I mean literally there is this song and they went tits up. John Squire was the only reason this song even got noticed. It's a nice song and all but he picked up this band in a bar pretty much and tried to make The Squires Roses.
The drummer's backing vocals are legendary for how shit they made the lead vocal sound. At some of the festivals he was just so out of key, made it sound like the melody had been totally botched.
Rene actually would pull Ian brown back in tune when he drifted...Rene also would sing the beginning of verses to act like a kind of pitch guide for Ian to follow...all while playing the most incredible drums
Lawrence Sunley commented that reni from stone roses provided poor backing vocals like the drummer in seahorses- Ian brown is /was the singer for stone roses ( who famously has pitch problems singing live) John Squire is / was guitarist for stone roses
a great guitarist with a gigantic ego that shuts down the rest of the band. somewhere I have already seen it. reminiscent of the Jeff Beck Group of the 90s
John Squire and his guitar!
It gets me how he always ends a song so perfectly live.
Correction: John > his coke> his guitar. "edit" at this time of life anyway
Should’ve been the name of the band
A guitar and John Squire
Love his voice and the music is amazing 😊
John Squire’s riff is the hook. I never get tired of this song!
Me too!
Such a fantastic song and awesome group. Such a shame they weren’t together for longer.

Great singer, I think the problem is John squire is so talented but his head is all over the place, So band didn't last long sadly.
@@CoachBobbyFinstock well,... apparently, Squire wrote a song about 'Lara Croft' and Helme refused to sing it, which ended the band.
