    i purchased this shine juicer from john's website after watching his previous video review where he juiced apple, carrot, and celery. the main reason i picked this juicer is because my kitchen is not very big. i previously had a breville compact juicer which worked great but after watching john's videos about the pros and cons of centrifugal juicers vs slow juicers i opted for the latter. here is my experience after having the juicer for a little over a month.
    pros: as mentioned before the thing i like most is that it has a very small footprint. it is probably as large in diameter of a regular size paper towel roll and about a third taller. it is very easy to put together as there are only 4 parts aside from the base: the top and bottom covers, the auger, and the screen. it does not make a mess like the centrifugal juicers since the auger rotates at a slower rate of speed (doesn't fling bits of produce from the chute) and it also "auto feeds" the larger and more dense produce using gravity. it works very well for dense fruits and vegetables as i have juiced apples, cucumbers, carrots, pears, ginger and celery but not as well for leafy greens such as kale, spinach and chard. cleaning is a breeze. after disassembling the main pieces all you need to do is rinse the top and bottom covers, gently scrub the auger and use the brush to clean the screen. i actually found this screen easier to clean compared to the centrifugal juicer screens as those seem be finer along with the pulp being very fine also which needed to be scrubbed more. this screen the holes are bigger and so is the pulp so it doesn't take much effort to remove the pulp from the screen. i like that after everything dries i can reassemble the unit and it is ready to go for the next time i want to juice. finally, this juicer comes with a 3-year warranty and although i could not find any info on the brand "shine" this juicer is manufactured under the tribest label which is the umbrella company of the slowstar line of juicers.
    cons: it is slow, feed chute is small, run-time is limited, prep time for produce is longer. let me explain as these all affect each other. the slowness is not a fault of the juicer itself as it is considered a slow juicer, however, because of the low duty cycle that john mentions in the video you can only make so much juice before you need to let the juicer "rest". for hard pieces of fruit and veggies this isn't an issue. the issue is juicing leafy greens as you can only put in so much leafy greens at a time because of the chute size and have to force it down with the pusher. also, because the feed chute is small, you have to pre-cut the produce (as shown in the video) to smaller pieces to fit. then, the manual it states that you should turn the juicer off after about 10 minutes of use. i pushed the limit of this once and ran it for about 15 minutes before the juicer would not turn back on. i thought it was borked after only having it for a couple weeks but apparently there is a thermal fuse built into the juicer and the body felt like a ceramic mug with a hot cup of coffee. after letting the unit cool down for about 30 minutes i turned it back on and i was able to resume juicing.
    i would recommend this juicer if you are looking to make a serving or two of juice to consume right away. it does take a bit longer to make the juice but as mentioned in john's videos, the slow juicer yields are a bit more and have better nutritional retention. i would not recommend this juicer, however, if you are looking to make a few days worth of juice to store in the fridge. although i do this, it does take significantly more time. for me, it takes me a little over an hour to juice about six 12 oz servings to store in the fridge. this includes letting the juicer rest. so, my suggestion if you are going this route is to put on some of john's videos on autoplay while you juice.
    have a blessed day.

    how the heck!? This juicer is better than the VRT 350 I just bought that gets clogged and has hella-pulp everytime I make my celery juice! So odd... Any ideas? Thanks by the way

    • @discountjuicers
      @discountjuicers  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Personally, I would rather have a vrt350, as it has a more durable motor, and a wiping blade. On your VRT350 make sure you follow my instructions at: th-cam.com/video/g6Qt4pGCI4o/w-d-xo.html
      and it will work alot better.

    What brand of knife, John? Please!

    • @discountjuicers
      @discountjuicers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are "generic" made in China. I have settled with inexpensive ceramic knives that have good reviews, just incase they break!

    How did you bring a ceramic knife on a carry on ?

    • @discountjuicers
      @discountjuicers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      that bag was checked in. I have brought plastic "cake" knives with me carry on, but sometimes they get taken away. Normally I borrow a knife from the hotel, or buy one at the $1 store and then leave it at the end of my trip.

    Do you juice apples with skin on i heard manufacturers put wax on the apple skin i peel the skin what do you think

    • @discountjuicers
      @discountjuicers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best nutrition of apples are on/near skin, so I do juice them. I do purchase organic apples. that being said, I believe if if not organic, its best to juice the skin (once washed appropriately)
