    The noise you were hearing was synchro and shift related. That's what I was saying, performing that adaptation may eliminate the noise but damage to synchros was most likely occurring. The faults you have are indeed synchro end of life. I do sell brand new synchros with shift collars. And parts you need. Thanks for the shout out, though. We sale all parts for that gearbox.

    Yeah... I bought a BMW Z4, drunk on New Years ( No I didn't test drive it ) with 100,000 miles on it. Generally, I do a market search, and it was a good buddy I'd bought cars from before, but I was just waiting for something to fail and total the car. I'd just bought a 4RUNNER the week before so I was down about 25 k. Since I live on my sailboat, and park on the beach, I kept it at a buddy's house across the bridge. Fun little car, no major problems , few upgrades ,but needed some minor cosmetics. Still made me a nervous wreck. Felt like I had to pay attention to ,and drive it. Owned it about a month. Took a few k bath , but got rid of it. All this looks easy, or fun, but unless you have deep pockets ? Buy something you can pay cash for that doesn't kill you at the garage. Even if you're the garage.

      Except the transmission fluid in that particular Getrag transmission is supposedly lifetime fluid. There is no “drain” to drain it out. I’m sure there is one but not one that is disclosed to the public.

    A friend of mine had a F355 back in 1996 and he told me the car had started acting up since he was taking the delivery. But since it was a limited model, he had no choice but to have the dealership to fix the problems and the problems were on going until he was afriad to drive it then traded it two years later. How really good was a Ferrari to him? He would never buy it again.

    My 1992 BMW 525i with 200k miles with no service records has less problems than this. It's crazy how the dash is falling apart, and the lights too. It's crazy that Ferrari sells ticking time bomb transmissions, but sues people for rebuilding their cars. I now understand why some people refuse to buy Ferrari.

Ended up having to tow it to the dealership and they kept my car for weeks to fix it. Complete nightmare. Either don’t cheap out and go to the dealer or call a trusted Locksmith. These techs for car keys express are super under trained supposedly.

    • @shawnhicks619
      @shawnhicks619 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well while I would think that that car should be in better condition then it is there is a lot to be said about how it was maintained. The curved wheels, torn leather on the upper dash cluster, speaker grille broken tabs, and loose trunk/fuel door release and fairly dirt carpet tell you a lot about the person who was driving it. That car was likely not cared all that well for. I’ll also guess it wasn’t regularly serviced at the dealer at the prescribed maintainance schedule either, which would frighten me a little since the brake fluid needs changed every 2 years or it crystallizes in the calipers preventing brake function.
      The leather shrinking on the dash and the sticky buttons are all on Ferrari since those are issues that have plagued Ferraris forever. The transmission issue, well those all all too common, and Ferrari did pass that one on to the customer to rectify. Luckily there are shops that repair them, used to be around 10-12k to repair the common shifter electrical issue causing the even or odd shift pattern.
      The California is still a good car if it’s been cared for. There are plenty of people that have them and have put an extraordinary amount of miles on them. Still friends with several on Ferrari chat.
      For reference for anyone interested along with the transmission issue common California problems include premature engine mount failure, convertible top sensor failure, and the common leather shrinkage on the dash, camshaft variator failure, and sticky buttons.
