Watching this episode as an adult, this is one of the most absurd episodes in history but it makes me feel great about my childhood

I swear I liked everything about this series. Alot of shows try the twin story eventually. Some of those stories came off better than others Knight Riders was actually really good. It didn't come off as stupid. Garthe was the basis for Michael's reconstructed face. Always seemed plausible to me
I was never much of a fan of the Goliath/Garthe eps (seems the 2nd one might have been better) but when it comes to the old re-used evil twin idea, it did actually work ok in Knight Rider as you said. Since Michael's face was reconstructed in the pilot to look like Garthe by Wilton's choice, it made the whole thing less silly and more believable. KITT's magic abilities however, were far more unbelievable than doppelganger Garthe.
I believe wilton knight wanted to make michael long like his so to be able to see a good son close to him helping the ppl before he died,he wanted a decent man to take his son's place thus make the plastic surgeons change michael's face to garth's! The old man was disappointed that garth wasn't a good person so much,you can say he was a true good rich man who really cared about the weaker and not only for him self! For me the most unbelievable fact in this sci-fi action series was this fact.Rather kitt's magic on the roulette table because in reality there's no rich person that is actually good,and this is even more unbelievable for me!
And it all ends with some epic hand-to-hand combat. Legendary!

The dice don't change, Kitt sends an electromagnetic impulse that temporarily alters the perception of the people and they believe to see different numbers

And they would team up against KITT and Michael, even if it didn’t happen it would have been awesome to see,

Garthe kinda hates Micheal Knight because because he has some traits and characters in which he cannot compare with Michael Knight and that Micheal is everything that he stands for . I think that Garthe's plan is for Micheal Knight to die and take over Mr Knight's company and start with his evil plans . No wonder why he had Goliath the truck who is another enemy of KITT .

Just watching this makes me want to go back to the 80's seriously! even though I always knew Michael and Garth were the same person, it was so convincing back then! Amazing what a mustache can do I guess xD.

Netflix legitimately cut out a crucial scene in Goliath Returns that I kinda require in order to investigate fully. Even Knight Rider Historians had an interview with Ann Turkel, who said that she came up with the idea for the scene to be legitimate.
P.S. The casino scene is even more hilarious when you think of the fact that Michael said, in public, "Say hi to your mom." When literally NO ONE ELSE in the entire casino knows the truth, and probably thought they were twins or something! I could picture one of the poor employees running to the bathroom going "Hear no evil. See no evil. Speak no evil." But just to end up quitting anyway.
I know they aren't blood related but I always kinda saw Michael and Garthe as something like half brothers or adopted brothers in a sense
@@LawrenceW78 Yeah, Michael definitely adopted. Even Garthe called him, in a spiteful poetic way "My Brother" in Goliath Returns.
Must have took some doing to Splice Two David Hasselhoff Characters together,Can also tell miniatures were used with great effect in this classic 1980s Action Packed series ❤️ Great memories as a kid born in 1973 growing up with the A Team and Kinghtrider in 1982 to other action TV in the 1980s .Had a Toy KITT when I was 9 ,Don't know what ever happened to it 🥺

The only thing that lets down the TV episode is the unnecessary use of models They used them just for 'driving in a straight line' or 'doing a skid'.
There's enough good desert footage in the episode for a clever Knight Rider fan to do some slick video editing and replace many of the models with great Kitt and Goliath driving.
I'm not that fan though. One man won't make a difference.
How, exactly did they film the scenes like what you see around 2:05-2:17 where David Hasselhoff is literally talking to himself, for example?...
I read about some of the behind-the-scenes tricks & over-all production behind this episode on the internet sometime in late-2001 during the first semester of my 6th grade year of middle school & was always curious as to how they filmed scenes in order to accommodate David Hasselhoff when you would see him on-screen as both Garthe Knight & Michael Knight, respectively.
Today it's easy to do that but back then on 35mm film not so much. They actually had to "mend" the film together. Watch on any old film or TV show where a character talks to themself and you will see some type of object in the middle that allows for an easy place for the film "seam". David acted on one side of the frame and then acted on the other side, each time talking to nobody but looking across to where the other character would be. They then take the film and join it together, using the object in the middle to mask the place where the film is joined so you don't see it.
The Incredible Hulk did it too when Lou stands looking at himself as the Hulk in the body building ep. And Airwolf did a difficult one in the ep "mind of the machine" where 2 Airwolfs appeared on screen together.
The way we do it today is on a green screen or blue screen which keeps us from having to stitch the background and allows more flexibility. They could do blue screen back then but it was expensive on film so the afore mentioned method is how they usually chose to do it.

To add to what Digital Magic Studios said, I think that the other thing that was done was shoot all of Garth's scenes first. Makes things easier.
