      GearHeads it is. It's garage kept by an older guy in a retirement complex. It's gonna be my 1st time owning and driving a manual so I'm excited

      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well congratulations! Do your best to take care of it and don't overdrive the car and get in a wreck by trying to do more than you can! Happens a lot with them sadly especially since they many peoples first "enthusiast" car.

    • @austinthornton4150
      @austinthornton4150 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      GearHeads I'd be upset if I mess the car up in any form.
      The car was blue from the factory and the guy had it painted a darkish green and put a tan soft top on it.
      So I'm gonna look to get the soft top painted or get a black hardtop

    Another great video guys. Thoroughly cleaning your intake manifold and it's ports, and sealing up all the vacuum lines is another good one for a smooth running motor. Adjusting Timing Advance is for non-VVT motors of course.

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes of course, and that definitely is a good project, but it is less of a mod and more of maintenance, I tried to stay away from those types of things in the video, worth mentioning tho to anyone that may be reading here cus its definitely worth doing!

      "variable valve timing" I don't have that, but I have a 93 with a Jackson M45 supercharger. Any reason I should avoid advancing the timing to 14 degrees? thanks

    Yeah man, you guys hit on all the big ones. After you listed #5, I was thinking that they left out the door buzzer mod, but nope...bonus material! Also a very smart way to plug your channel...listing only mods that you have conveniently made videos for...lol...yes-sir, that's how it's done! Good job guys.

    hey guys! cool videos! just so you know to give your videos a higher quality feel for the cheap is getting a separate mic that you can have near you while you talk. the standard camera mic takes in way too much echo and background noise.

    De-power steering rack, because who wants to live in the 21st century anyway?

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Who needs to? My wife can drive the car with ease, no power steering in a Miata is not a big deal.

    • @Willowfiasco
      @Willowfiasco 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      GearHeads Garage I have a de-powered rack with 205 nitto nt05's and max caster on my alignment, it's hell when the car isn't moving, but so worth the feel.

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got NT05's with Max caster, just a manual rack instead of depowered...all I have to say is its still a lot better than the 225 Khumo V710 slicks I used to have!!! =P

    • @Willowfiasco
      @Willowfiasco 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      GearHeads Garage My nt05's dont have much life left. I think im going to try the potenza re71r next, I've had the re11a's in the past and they felt great.

    @buddhaman001 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Also if you just REALLY don't care about looks or resell-ability...not that these cars cost much anyway, pulling the dash and going minimalist on the door panels should yield some interesting numbers as well.
    Then while at it just yank the radio and speakers, for a person like me that works cause I just like listening to the hum of the engine.

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It absolutely could, but I am daily driving my car and keeping it as a street car as well as something to take to the track...I'll hold onto the dash and door cars for now =P

    • @buddhaman001
      @buddhaman001 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I should note, I have done the A/C drop, comp, condenser, core and all. The amount of power that that compressor leeches from the car is absolutely astonishing. It is rough at first but I toughed it out and got to where I can stand even San Antonio, Texas mid-summer.
      Totally worth it.

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup, it sucks a lot of power out! I'm in SoCal so I understand the heat, but just gotta wear the right clothes and its not bad as long as the car keeps moving with the wind blowing in, it just sucks if you get stuck on a freeway in stop and go lol

    I had the timing advanced when I first got the car but after my timing belt and front end service kit was installed I set the timing back to 10* and I've found with the advance of the timing you get more at the bottom but you lose some.at the top.
    I'm usually driving my car past 5k rpms so there isn't a need for the advance timing. I also have the bumper cut, mine is very aggressive. I like it.
    Awesome video guys. You guys have any videos on suspension and autox/ track oriented stuff. I currently have mine set up for autox and would like to set it up for a road course now.

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It definitely depends on how much you advance the timing, at least for me I don't notice any drop off up top until you go to 16 degrees or so, and I would agree with you that its not preferable!
      As far as suspension stuff is concerned, what exactly would you like to know? I build my car to perform best in the canyons, its kinda a happy medium between autox and track, only difference would be track driving might favor a bit stiffer suspension but if you drive on the road you want more compliance and its actually faster that way on an imperfect road.

      Let's see, Foamectomy done. Timing advanced to 13-14 definitely noticed a difference there.
      Need to do some more weight reduction. Got a Hard dog rollbar and some frame rail (your video convinced me).
      Depowering the steering rack has been on my list for a while. Flyin Miata has a post on how to covert a powered to depowered.

    After you advance your timing do you have to tune your cat to make it run right?

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I assume you meant "Tune your car". In which case, no. Advancing the timing is in a way tuning it yourself DIY style. You just bump up the torque curve a bit it doesnt give you much extra HP maybe just a little.

    For the 1990 guys: turn your fuel door a push-to-open with a 4$ part at a hardware store. Then run the wire to your trunk so the fuel door release in your console opens the trunk. It's a pain in the ass to do, but its soooo beyond worth it

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      WigglingWaffles Not a bad idea for those who want that, personally on my 90 I didnt mind cus it made the trunk more theft proof.

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Guy lol and Thank you!! Considering how hot it gets i'd run 91, if its colder out 87 or mid grade is fine, especially since you guys don't have any hills/mountains. When loading the engine climbing a hill detonation is much worse and more likely.

    • @danielaantezanab.9814
      @danielaantezanab.9814 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      GearHeads Garage man what about the timing when you turbocharger the miata, keeps the same? Thanks!

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I'll be running a megasquirt and will have a completely different ignition timing map from stock. For people that turbo on a stock ECU and have fuel taken care of somewhere else, I'd reccomend running 8 degrees of timing approximately, but you have to do your homework and make sure your not getting detonation, use Det Cans.

      Skids I'm not sure what your point is or if your hating on the video or what...but these definitely are Miata focused and common things people do for free with them, yea some of them apply to other cars but this was definitely Miata focused. Don't see as many bumper cuts or foamectomys on other cars. Ignition advance with an adjustable CAS is also not something I see on a lot of other cars without a distributor. If you want to call us out on lack of creativity thats fine, but we put a lot of work into all of these videos, if you feel you can do better then go make some yourself!

    Number 6. Push Miata over cliff. It'll go 125m.p.h. easily.

      Bruce L. Why?

      No offense intended, I just see less and less unmolested Miatas every day. I just don't see how chopping off the bumper cover is an improvement. I have nothing against modifying a car for a reason but I'm not seeing the reason here. Sorry. That's just my opinion and it's your car to do what you want with. I probably shouldn't have even said anything.

      Bruce L. You can look at it that way if you want, but I bought this car with a bunch of modifications done to it already from the 90's that were awful! I specifically didnt choose a near perfect condition Miata cus I knew what I was going to be doing to it. Dont worry, I still see nice stock ones on the road all the time!

      Sorry you felt that way, we make our videos to be entertaining, informative, and thorough if it is supposed to be an informative video. We don't rush our videos for people's short attention spans, and we do this for free entertainment for those that enjoy it.

    Idk if anyone will respond but I'm having a problem with my clutch, cause I have a new reservoir, line and slave cylinder, so it's all brand new but I can't seem to get pressure back to my clutch, and have been trying to bleed it for hours and nothing's coming through. Help?
