Its a really hard song to play! Haha they make it look so easy that us mere mortals think its actually easy to play. Lol Plus they have an enormous song catalogue, cant play em all! Cheers
So THAT'S what those yellow things with the MUSE logo on them are on his mic! I've always wondered about that, you have completely solved a mystery for me now :D Always found them completely out of place (and he almost ALWAYS has the same kind of micstand, as does Chris btw :P). Thank you!
matt bellamy absolutely a great gitarist ever.. he can maintain his vocal while playing his guitar although he loses his guitar pick.. he got his own soul through his music.! *mood = awesome.!*
Damn it, Is there something Matt cannot do???? 1. He can say the alphabet backwards 2. He does the "Mattwalk" (and also plays the guitar while doing it :D) 3. his amazing vocal skills....and 4. He loses his pick in the middle of a song and in less than a blink gets another one! .... :o That's why I love him!! :)
The thickness of the picks affects the sound. Thin ones are for gentle sound and thick ones are for brutal dark sound. He changed it on purpose. Brilliant.
Actually, the reason for a lot of guitarists growing longer fingernails is to help with acoustic fingerpicking styles; it's a common thing to see on flamenco guitar players.
that happens sometimes to me when i play guitar, the pick drops outta my hand.. but i keep playing with my finger until i finish the song... only when it is a MUSE song.
@Ademeu He doesn't play without, he grabs a new one before he hit the strings for the 2nd time. It looks like he's picking it up from the ground, but he doesn't!
To lose a guitar pick during a gig is a normal occurrence that's why they have multiple guitar picks attached to a mic or slightly under guitar plate depending on a guitar and guitarist. The trick is to keep playing even if you lose it either by picking up another one or using your fingers and keep a performance intact. Some of the best guitarists have lost guitar picks during their performances such as Jack White, Bellamy here etc.
He is so amazing at guitar!! And piano!! It is now my personal goal to get as good as him at piano!! I can't remember the name of that song though.. What is it?
@Ashmodious It was actually posted as "Unnatural Selection Solo," but then someone pointed out Matt's epic recovery after dropping his pick, therefore I changed the title. A better title would be "loses pick without missing a note" or something like that. Maybe you're spending too much time analyzing TH-cam videos.
@Misishaxi to be fair, he has thousands of people watching him and he just smoothly grabs another without even flinching. Bedroom guitarists would be slightly surprised when a pick flies out their hand, bellamy hardly reacts to it.
Would have been even more boss if he did his one handed stuff with his left hand, and looked at his right hand as if to say 'wtf', shrugged and got another one. I know that he has the mad skillz to do so
1:44 Loses
1:45 Gets another one that was in the mic.
Ninja.
Yes slick movement. Total control!
Yooo ..lmao
Every time I see a live video performance of Unnatural Selection I wonder exactly WHY they don’t play it live anymore. It’s an underrated masterpiece.
Its a really hard song to play! Haha they make it look so easy that us mere mortals think its actually easy to play. Lol Plus they have an enormous song catalogue, cant play em all! Cheers
@@sillymilly311 guitarwise it is fairly easy
@@JimBob-sc1nj doesn't mean it's hard on other instruments
they have lots of new songs to play and this one's pretty long. in the over 6 minutes of Unnatural Selection you can fit two 3 minute songs.
the way as soon as he drops it hes picked up a new one...legend, and professional (also the way he takes the mic around 0:52 was amazing)
Matt Bellamy is one of the greatest musicians of our generation!
he is so concentrated, i cant believe how fast he glances over that, its was like muscle memory
More like musecle memory
He got it from the Muscle Museum
@@sandro765 good one dude
He didn't lose his pick, he threw it at the ground and caused a Supermassive Black Hole.
hahaha
I love how they don't let anything ruin their shows.
i have a mini heart attack when i drop a pick when i play to myself...imagine the sheer panic of dropping it on stage hahaha
I've done it, just keep your cool down and keep on playing a song.
just
He didn't even need to look at the mic stand. Just reached out and grabbed the pick
I didn’t even notice when he lost the pick. I had to see the comments to identify. 😐
So THAT'S what those yellow things with the MUSE logo on them are on his mic! I've always wondered about that, you have completely solved a mystery for me now :D Always found them completely out of place (and he almost ALWAYS has the same kind of micstand, as does Chris btw :P). Thank you!

Such professionals. Gotta love these guys.
It has probably happened a million times because he handled the situation too well
But let's just appreciate how fucking good this sounds??? Omg
he's faster than his shadow...
Guys.... There are spare picks attached to the mic stand in case of situations like this.
this was my first Muse concert. so intense!
poor Matt, he obviously lost his concentration for a second while thinking about Dom :D
They need to play this more
He looses it at 1:44 n picks another off the stand 2 seconds later
Damn it, Is there something Matt cannot do???? 1. He can say the alphabet backwards 2. He does the "Mattwalk" (and also plays the guitar while doing it :D) 3. his amazing vocal skills....and 4. definitely 1:43. Did NOT see that while I was there, but good thing he has them on his mic stand!
Awesome video! I love it. My videos were also taken with a Panasonic Lumix. It's a great camera. I was at this concert. Muse is Amazing!
That was a smooth call O.o
Go epic pickup-skills of Matt! XD
The thickness of the picks affects the sound. Thin ones are for gentle sound and thick ones are for brutal dark sound. He changed it on purpose. Brilliant.
😐
amazing grab for another pick.great footage
@Xavvie Thank you for the comment, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! :)
Great show...great time.
1:42
1:42
Sneaky Matt
he's professional by not making it a big deal he just grabbed anotherone, good performer
getting another pick LIKE A BOSS!
That is why a lot of guitarists keep their fingernails long.
Actually, the reason for a lot of guitarists growing longer fingernails is to help with acoustic fingerpicking styles; it's a common thing to see on flamenco guitar players.
Actually long fingernails are not usefull for e-guitar playing but as saif above for acoustic finger picking
No
it takes skill to recover as fast as matt managed
Not sure why everyone is amazed by his epic save..
He IS Matthew Bellamy, y'know :)
Just have to mention that this is the best part from resistance just got to love it
@JohnYelinek I think he meant the picks actually used by Muse are on sale on eBay for $50. I use the .73s as well. Great stuff
My God that was amazing :O *drops, strum strum smooth taking of another one, contrinue* AWESOME
Wow awesome save by matt there.
@Misishaxi We thought he was bending down to grab the pick off the ground; the actual pick grab wasn't clear at lower resolutions.
@krapticfool 1:40 you can see it drop out of his hand, he then quickly strums a couple of times before picking up a new one off the microhphone stand.
@gossjoh Thanks for the comment, more vids are on the way. :)
so smooth
Oh wait, he just takes it from the mike stand..... Not grab it from the floor at 1:52
@Planez4meh unbelievably fast manoeuvre, and stupidly well done :')
that happens sometimes to me when i play guitar, the pick drops outta my hand.. but i keep playing with my finger until i finish the song... only when it is a MUSE song.
@Xavvie yeah,he always uses dunlope tortex .73 yellow picks! I never saw him without a yellow pick!
@Gustavomazu My god that was so smooth.
@Ademeu
He doesn't play without, he grabs a new one before he hit the strings for the 2nd time. It looks like he's picking it up from the ground, but he doesn't!
@shakapapo It's a Panasonic Lumix TZ7/ZS3.
Wow! I guess it's not the first time he loses his pick! :D So badassss...

I saw David Gilmour pop a spring during comfortably numb and just play on using the remaining strings.
That happens to me all the time, but I CAN'T CATCH IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AIR...
Such epicness.
He didn't lose it, he dropped it. He just switched, people usually do that during live shows since picks gets used up fast.
@PsychoSadez yeah :) he obviously had a second one - look closely at his right hand at 1:45.
@STColeridge22 My mistake, I thought his bend over was to grab a pick, but now I see what actually occurs.
@nocturnezero: He actually droped at 1:42 and took another one at 1:45 from his mic-stand.
There are actually 7-8 of them pinned under his microphone bar. Chris has some too, but they're red instead of yellow :P
Np that's not what happened. Pick definitely lost Matt Bellamy.
pretty slick recovery
Well, that was fucking quick!
sneaky move sir
fucking hell thats immense
Oh, and I forgot to mention his awesome guitar and piano skills :)
I bet most who were watching didnt even notice. He was so quick to replace it XD
1.45 he snatches a pic from the microphone , very professional
@carly286 I think he has a bunch of extras on his mic stand.
Epic Win!!!!
truly musician
He turned that into a win ! (:
@PeterShishlin he took it from his mic stand :)
Legend need I say more
@Misishaxi he IS like Neo from teh Matrixx. Don't doubt Matt Bellamy. Ever.
So fucking smooth.
Now that, that is professional.
I SO WANNA GO TO A GIG OF THEM 0_0
me: **accidentally drops pick**
my fingers: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA IIIIIIIIIIINNNJUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSTICE IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS THE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORM
He is so amazing at guitar!! And piano!! It is now my personal goal to get as good as him at piano!! I can't remember the name of that song though.. What is it?
There are plenty in the mic. They're those yellow things.
Like a boss: Matt Fucking Bellamy

He lost his pick at 1:43, never seen that before. Anyway, awesome solo :D
@Misishaxi
to be fair, he has thousands of people watching him and he just smoothly grabs another without even flinching. Bedroom guitarists would be slightly surprised when a pick flies out their hand, bellamy hardly reacts to it.
And he doesn't miss a beat folks! That's why he rules! Hey, if you've gotten a 'clue'
HOLLA back to me!
i always thought he had picked it up at 1:52! My whole life is a lie!
Huh don't see him lose it or get another... gosh he does everything fast. talking and now getting another pick in less than 1 second!
Would have been even more boss if he did his one handed stuff with his left hand, and looked at his right hand as if to say 'wtf', shrugged and got another one. I know that he has the mad skillz to do so
@camfloyd Oh it happened before though....good example is the pinkpop 2002 gig...
search for muse bliss @ pinkpop 2002
1:45 omg i had to watch this part twice to realize he took another from the mic xD
1:45 that's professionalism.
@EvilMuzz where does he pull that pick from?!?! i've watched it a hundred times and can't figure it out!!!
EPIC!
@musermiki Actually you can see him grab another pick from his mic stand. Blink and you'll miss it, though!
I've used the same PLECTRUM since 1987 ! I would be distraught ! Matt doesn't care one little bit, he has no attachment to his gear 🙂
hahahahahahhahahah why did this make me laugh so much
@camfloyd I've seen it a fair amount, he is just pro at picking another one up straight away
omgiod I play the guitar and if I dropped my pick like that i'd flip shit.... so smooth Matt I applaud you
smooth transition though...
i lost 2:20 minutes to see what i do wen i play, just the music saved my lost
