There's a couple of other recordings where Matt screams like that (Osaka 2000) but this version is definitely the best. Wonder why they didn't keep the screams, maybe it'd fuck up his voice. These days, on the rare occasion that they play it, Chris sings the chorus (check LA 2015), he does a pretty good job but it's nothing like this performance.
6 years late but screaming fucked up his belts and now he can't belt higher notes or scream at all without dying his falsetto also kinda died because of how much he screamed
i agree, it really more energetic and raw passionated the interpretations to the japanese concerts, i really liked this version more. You just have to look the huge difference between the energy put in the japanese stage vs the seul stage.
@grandiaguy One thing you should know (if you don't indeed :) ) That when Matthew Bellamy sings like that on Hyper Music, he's just ruining his voice =/ specially at the chorus. But I agree when you say they can make songs with a younger energy, more intensive.
The performances they did for Aus TV around this time had a huge impact on me. Had 'Muscle Museum' from the 10:30 slot on a VHS taped off the telly and watched it dozens of times :)
my god, i dont no how someone can scream like that and then also have that amazing voice! Matt Bellamy has to be one hell of a brilliant singer ;) no one has to tell me that though, go muse!!
@jkcheese Yeah, i just meant that they were more melodic, than just plain screams :) No doubt, the epicness is in fact present in so many muse songs. We are on the page my internet friend ;)
If The Resistance was released first they probably wouldn't have been as loved as they are now. Just as well it wasn't!...this shows you just what Matt Bellamy is capable of.
In this song he is using his Fender Aloha Stratocaster. Even during their early years they still were musically talented beyond most bands!!! Go Muse!!!
This perfectly describes my relationship with my bf…my bf is Chris, carrying the entire song with the bomb rhythm (our relationship). And then there’s me as Matt…singing in head-voice, falsetto, and literally SCREAMING…unnecessary but adds a bit of spice👌
I couldn't imagine what would happen to his voice if he still screamed like that every time it was played. Then again, it's Matt Bellamy. Considering events such as the Bizzare Music Festival, I doubt having his vocal chords removed could cause him to lose his voice.
oh my bloody fucking lord, that was hilarious....i loved it....hahaha...i had never seen that before...absolutely brilliant! i love all the different versions of this song...it is why it is the best! mooohahahha
Why everyone says things like "miss the old muse"?? why the fuck do they say that? Muse is always gonna be Muse, someone is talking about how poppy is The Resistance. That my friends, is their most complete album, which is their most precious piece of art we could ever heard from them. A real fan doesn't give up on a good band like Muse. I'd never say a Muse song is bad, they're all beautiful and have their own meaning. The ones who say actual Muse songs "aren't too good" should be ashamed.
Taneli Lucis Well, there are objectively bad songs by them. Many of them off of The 2nd Law are poorly thought out and executed. Unsustainable and Follow Me are unbearable. Isolated System is incredibly drab. Even great bands can make duds. I especially dislike Psycho because it's super formulaic and cock rocky. Don't you dare say that fans aren't allowed to like or dislike whatever era they please. Being a fan is not sucking the proverbial dick of the band, it's finding qualities and personalities that you like. People can say whatever they want about Resistance, I think most of their arguments for their opinions are incredibly erroneous. Still, they can be fans and have original thought. How about that?
@blurred37 All Muse fans I've seen loved the period where Matt would scream like this. Also, it wasn't really 'testing the waters', he sang like this for a good few years.
Wish muse were still like this, yeah there new stuff I do like but this is on a different level, it's more fun and just make's a better live performance but either way I love muse
If someone is interested. They've played it in 2000 at Channel V Studios. (Sydney, Australia)
Thanks
Thank you
3:05 YEACE!
Wow. Someone recorded this on their Gameboy Color.
It was on tv, idiot
@@renofumi28 its a joke cmon
@@renofumi28 I'm aware, this was a joke
I lol'd
Holy hell that screaming was intense! Never seen matt do that 👌🏼
And now we have Won't Stand Down
@@rileyhoulahan8369 first new MUSE track to give me goosebumps in years!
@@rileyhoulahan8369 Yeh, Won’t Stand Down is awesome!

@@leafy7987 yeah. even in studio, WSD the screams are just vocal distortion and very quiet
i agree, it really more energetic and raw passionated the interpretations to the japanese concerts, i really liked this version more.

@@leafy7987 this is nonsense. Matt's best belting was in 2012, which was years after he stopped screaming. He's simply getting older.
The screams actually sound damn good. I hope they have some crazy screams in the new album :D
The Resistance?
@@BooToadstool yeah lol he was talking about the resistance
@@eye_man Hahah wow that's crazy!
^^^ bro this is so fucking funny
Lol. They are wonderful yet, like that
Matt's screams are too awesome.
OMFG never heard that scream by Matt before! Muse keep surprising me every time
and now we have matt screaming in Will Of The People, specifically the tracks Won't Stand Down and Kill Or Be Killed
his scream must have affected his throat for worse..
14 years ago, damn, you don't see it that often
The bassline is purely yolly
OMG THE BASSLINE
I love at 2:45 how the camera goes to film Matt at the mic but he's not even there!
@grandiaguy One thing you should know (if you don't indeed :) )

i like how the camera keeps trying to do a close-up on matt but misses him because he's already gone
crazy man, we love him so
The performances they did for Aus TV around this time had a huge impact on me. Had 'Muscle Museum' from the 10:30 slot on a VHS taped off the telly and watched it dozens of times :)
I love this version :D
These times where Muse was a beast in live performance
Reckless39 well yeah, they're still beast until now but I prefer their early years.
They just brilliant..
Matt and his screaming, haha
Matt screamin his fuckin guts out!
The bass is amazing on this version!
Is very similar to the final release version
Chris's hair, im surprised he doesntblind himself with his head shakin. Great version and immense screams by matt.
my god, i dont no how someone can scream like that and then also have that amazing voice! Matt Bellamy has to be one hell of a brilliant singer ;) no one has to tell me that though, go muse!!
RIP vocal cords.
@jkcheese Yeah, i just meant that they were more melodic, than just plain screams :) No doubt, the epicness is in fact present in so many muse songs.

Thats quality stuff, and yeah the screams are class. Theres an mp3 full of matts screams, hillarious. Muse are the Best

for a minute matt though he was on a marylin manson concert
They should've released it with he scream..
How does Matt Bellamy NOT have tinnitus :O ?!?
holly shit matt you're so awesome!!
Loving the quality.
Everything about this performance makes me happy.
OMG! Matt's insane screaming made me laugh so much. What a great version of the song! Love it hahahaha...
Wonderful performance!
So intense. It's perfect.
so freakin sick!
why can't they still be like this
love this bass line, and the long hair on chris :D
Best Hyper Music in my opinion.
2:06 really cool, they should have kept that
Nice
Wow, now that was really loud, then it really was HYPER music
Amazing, I love it.
"I DON'T WANT YOU, AND I NEVER WILL."
Law, kickass screams Matt.
one word, GENIOUS
matt's sreams were too crazy...aha...
oh man
this is insane
i love it
In this song he is using his Fender Aloha Stratocaster.
Even during their early years they still were musically talented beyond most bands!!! Go Muse!!!
thats raw
i love it
That was bloody mental!
Fair enough. I love The Resistance but it doesn't have the raw power, fire and ultimately brilliant angst of Origin of Symmetry.
favourite live version
And here we see how muse are influenced by rage against the machine lol.
THIS IS AWESOME
young muse ,, so awesome Dx
this is EPIC.
dude, i have never heard matt scream like that before.
Ohhh my god I love this so much
This is HYPER Music, indeed
This perfectly describes my relationship with my bf…my bf is Chris, carrying the entire song with the bomb rhythm (our relationship). And then there’s me as Matt…singing in head-voice, falsetto, and literally SCREAMING…unnecessary but adds a bit of spice👌
Matt can scream like anything!
Hahah!
Brilliant!
one of the best
wait a minute. isn't that the same guitar Matt uses for the current tour?
Matt does not seem to use his Aloha Strat these days and rather opts out for the Fender Aluminum Strat these days for songs like The Globalist.
the guitar he's using here is called a fender aloha.
2:28 *YOU KNOW THAT I DON'T FUCKING LOVE YAAAOOOOOOOOOUUU*
isn't this from 'the joint' on V channel way back in 2000?
Whoa, nice!
And... that guy doesn't look like Chris, but it is him. He is the only one that can bang his head like that :O
Yes, quite a lot of screaming. I love it!
I couldn't imagine what would happen to his voice if he still screamed like that every time it was played.

WOOOW!! Love this version, is so deep xD
Awesome
really cool song, almost better than the real version. this screams were so cool! Gorgeous guys!
that screaming is so cool
awesome!
oh my god. they can pull of anything.
they could even pass as the best scremo band ever, in my books.
this is excelent!
I love chris in these videos (and all the rest of the time, of course) purely seeing as he always looks stoned XD
Awesome chrome Strat :O
lol this is great. Gotta love them
I've heard him slip up once and I think it was on "Hoodoo" on the HAARP DVD, but he's only human, and a hell of a bass player at that!!! :)
haha you have to love the screams
Man. I wished they played this song live more :/
I find myself defending "new MUSE" on youtube a lot, but I have to say, that was pretty perfect. Well said :P
Phantasticccc!
Cristo, è un pazzo!!!! *v*
ahhhhhhh yeahhhhhh
bravo mr bellamy!!
xxxx
Can someone tell if there's a better version of Hyper Music live... Because I think this is the best Hyper Music live.
actually, i think he does. it really sounds like it.
@jkcheese I think there are some pretty gnarly screams in the final version.. More controlled screams, but not angry? Doubt it :)
*nico* *nico* *ni*
He plays it on the Hullabaloo DVD on one song (Can't remember which) because I was confused when I saw it aswell.
oh my bloody fucking lord, that was hilarious....i loved it....hahaha...i had never seen that before...absolutely brilliant! i love all the different versions of this song...it is why it is the best! mooohahahha
i like matthew bellamy a lot especially when he is screaming so cool like in this video. muse for eva

when he screamed, I fell off my chair. Fucking epic!
@blurred37 All Muse fans I've seen loved the period where Matt would scream like this. Also, it wasn't really 'testing the waters', he sang like this for a good few years.
Angry young muse, they need to get back to their roots and get out of la la land
They are going back to their roots in the next album next year. It will be released anywhere that year.
madmamadog Reapers came about as close as they're gonna get, I'd go listen to that rn if I were you
Reapers was more like BH&R/Absolution... It had that kind of theme to it.
The Handler is what I think is the closest... Or The Globalist
+wispina yeah, The Handler is the closest
+Mary Alice Bielinski or defector.
it's one of the last time we can see the Fender Aloa Stratocaster of Matthew Bellamy.god bless that guitar!!
fuzz factory all over the place :D
