Making A Custom Tooled Leather Sheath For An Estwing Sportsman’s Axe - Leather Craft
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 30 ม.ค. 2022
- In this leather craft video, I replace the generic sheath that came with my Estwing Sportsman’s Axe with a new custom tooled leather sheath. The sheath is intricately tooled all around and features a steel belt clip on the backside that allows the sheath to be taken on and off without belt removal. I tried to match the color scheme of the axe handle by applying a combination of walnut and chocolate color dyes and by stitching the sheath together using white Tiger thread. I hope you enjoy this axe sheath making video and can pick up a few tips and techniques for creating your own.

This is next level awesome! Truly beautiful craftsmanship. Those edges are perfection. Love the idea of putting the glue in one of those bottles- I’ve already adopted your use of the fine tip bottles for Tokonole/gum trag 😬 - good thing I have an extra bottle 😉
Thank you. Bottles make everything easier for sure.
I absolutely love your work- making something functional is easy enough, but making something functional AND beautiful is another skill set entirely. You have finishing down to an art!

Very cool! So excited to see video of someone else using a drill press for stitching holes. And I really want one of those hammers that sounds like a woodpecker after a pot of espresso coffee!! 😂

I'm just starting out, and I mean *just*. Wanting to make a sheath as my first project because I do competitive axe throwing. I have quite a few axes with either no actual sheath or a very generic cover. I want to make something nice and custom, and I truly appreciate this video. One thing I noticed when I did start cutting is the end of the leather, the edge. Seeing you use a rotary tool to lightly sand down the edge to start is simple genuis. Thank you very much for that little tip.
Awesome, glad the video helped!
@@KingdomGloryLeather Can I ask what tool you used to make your deep groves that you later stamped? It wasn't the stitch groover. These seemed like deeper channels.
@@davidfrance2915 Bet it was an upside down skiver.
Idk if any one said this or not. But next time just make a copy of your template and cut out your welt on that and trace it. Beautiful work as well. Love your deep tooling
Thank you.
Muy bonito arte me gustaría aprender lo felicito mucho por su hermoso trabajo

@@KingdomGloryLeather your welcome. God bless. From Glenn CATT in Massachusetts.
Шедеврально!
Thank you.
Круто, молодец.
Thank you
super 👍
Thank you 👍
I got an idea for an episode (if you haven't already done it) how about an episode that covers airbrushing basics for leatherworking? Just a thought. Great content as always.
Thank you and thanks for the idea.
Бомба!
That sir is a work of art ,may I ask were you got the drill press from ?
Thank you very much. I can’t remember where I got it. Just search Mini Drill Press and you should find it.
👏👏👏👏👏
Fantastic work, absolutely beautiful. Question though about the antique finish application; are you sealing the work before adding the antique paste?
Thank you. No sealing for this project. Adding a resist before antique would not give me the look I’m going for. More rustic.
❤
Beautiful work 🤩
I wish I had a talent like that too.
is it possible to buy your works anywhere?
Thank you very much. Sorry I am currently not selling. I appreciate your interest.
Wow this is beautiful do you have a shop? Is this for the 12 or 14 inch zest wing sportsman?
Thank you. Sorry I don’t sell. I appreciate your interest.
Beautiful work, video presentation is just as beautiful. I’m new to leather work, how many hours did this sheath take you? Thanks.
Thank you very much! It has been a while so I don’t really remember the amount of time it took. Plus all the filming for my video adds a lot of time to the project.
Man im jealous. Im trying to get better with the round knife but my last go ended with a trip to emergency room and stitches.
😳!!!
How did the surgeon sew, also with saddle stitches and also as beautiful as here in the video?🥴
Amazing work!!! Do you by chance sell the template? I just got one of those hatchets for Christmas and would love the template!!!
Thanks. Sorry I don’t
Great job! Can you tell me how you treat the back of the skin, for shine?)
Burnish with Tokonole or Gumtrag
Cool video, what is that you have in a little bottle? (that you put on the edge before using the burnisher to smooth the edge)
Thank you. It is Tokonole
@@KingdomGloryLeather I'm new to leather work, just checking out what's out there
Great work! Where can I get the squeeze bottle with the needle nose end for tokonole application?
Aliexpress
I think I bought them off ebay
👌😍👌
😃
Thật tuyệt vời
Thank you
Very nice indeed - How long did this thing of beauty actually take to make?
Thank you. It took about two weeks working on it in the evenings. But that also included all the video work.
@@KingdomGloryLeather thank you for the update and you are welcome it is without question a ‘rare thing of beauty!’
Great video. WHERE DID YOU GET THE CROSS STAMP?
I believe at a Tandy leather store.
Thanks and God bless you!
What type of bevler is the one that you use, is it barry king extra steep
It is a Barry King. Not sure if it is extra steep.
Excellent work! What tool are you using @ the 3:19 spot in the video?
Thank you. That is a Barry king brand push beveler.
@@KingdomGloryLeather ty sir
What are you putting on the edges after you sand and bevel? Is that just dye or is it edge kote?
Right after sanding and beveling I add dye to the edge using a wool dauber. I burnish the edge at the very end of the video with Tokonole.
@@KingdomGloryLeather thank you for the info, brother!
Hello , do you do leather work for anyone ?
Having seen a master at work , and the beautiful outcome of your work , I'm not going to even try it , I bought some tools and leather , but this is way outta my league .
If you would consider making a couple of sheaths for me , I will be glad to pay your fee , thanks .
Tom
Thank you very much! Sorry I am not able to at this time. I appreciate your interest very much.
@@KingdomGloryLeather Thanks for the reply , I've reached out to several leather people and either they don't reply or are not interested , can you recommend a leather craftsman that will make two sheaths , I would appreciate the info , thank you .
Tom Stone
I personally don't know of anyone off hand, but try looking on Instagram. There is a lot of leather crafters on there that you can reach out to.
@@KingdomGloryLeather , Thank you for the reply , I found a man in Texas that said he will do it , check him out , attacklineleather youtube channel .
Hi! Do you take orders at the moment?
Sorry I am currently not selling. I appreciate your interest.
Qual pino você faz o rebaixo no corte da faça giratória?
I helps widen the gap of the cut for better beveling.
@@KingdomGloryLeather , na verdade eu perguntei qual numeração , marca, modelo é o pino usado, porque aqui no Brasil não encontrei igual
I love it. Where can i purchase one. Could you please make one for me . Ill send you the money in advance . Thanks

Pleees sir may wallet 😃😃😃😃😃 sir oleee
ага нормально
Are you selling it?
No I plan on keeping it. I like it too much to sell it.
Can u delever your order?
Sorry I am currently not selling. I appreciate your interest.
Why in the trash ??? You can use it for a patten!
It was just for the video. I still have it.
Okay, nice work, but why? IMHO tools are for the practical side of life. It is unlikely to make the axe work more efficiently. The original was more than adequate since many axes aren't even supplied with sheaths.
Way to fast Iam a beginner and wonting to make one but did not understand nothing you did to get to the point where you stared cutting it out.
