  • This is the MPC 57 Chevy flip nose gasser from 1983. It's been released under different names over the years with slight changes. I bought this kit at a model swap meet for $20.00. The engine was partially built and missing the headers. I took apart the engine, cleaned it up, rebuilt it and made headers from solder and aluminum tubing. The body had some glue marks on it and I sanded her smooth. I ended up removing the side trim from the body and opened up the rear wheel openings. The kit came with some cool spoke rims but I used Cragar mags from other kits. I cut the hood trim off the front grille/bumper and pose the model with the hood trim on or off. I extended the rear fins with sheet styrene and used clear red plastic to create new tail lights. I added clear Green styrene to the side windows. The kit tires were ok but I used AMT's Drag 500 slicks for the rear tires, the front tires are AMT's custom competition line. I used Lazy Modeler Masks for the flames. I used Tamiya Matte Black, the undercoat for the flames is Tamiya Silver Leaf, TS-30 then sprayed over with Tamiya Candy Lime Green, TS-52. The distributor and ignition wires are from the Pro-Tech line. I scratched built the starter coil with styrene tube & sheet. The cross brace was missing for the chassis so I made one from sheet styrene. the ladder bars were sprayed with Tamiya silver leaf then sprayed with Tamiya clear blue.
I shot it with Testors Extreme lacquer clear then applied decals, then shot it with more clear. Lightly wet sanded, trying not to cut thru the decals and flames, then shot it with Testors Dullcote.

The main thing was a crinkly paint effect and using vinyl electrical tape as a very flexible mask, which was best shown on a blower scoop vid in the series that I thought you might find interesting and useful

Thanks for watching! I'm gonna sub your channel. If you end up using the EZ masks, just take your time cause they're super tacky. Make sure to line them up and center them correctly cause you only get one shot. I was slightly off on the hood but luckily it's not enough to notice.

@@tjmmodelcraft8486 I couldn't notice anything of center. Remember, we are our own worst critics, so I doubt anyone else will notice either. Noted about how tacky they are! I just hate the price of them. It's so easy to take that $30 kit and end up with $100 bucks in it🤯

The lazy modeler masks are a single use product. They work great but you only get one chance to line the up and center them correctly. I waited 5 days to let the paint cure before I applied them so they wouldn't peel up any paint. I wasn't completely accurate getting them lined up but I think it's passable for government work. Ha!
