@@s.l.3673 "Dark Academia" means "kids who like to look at Insta pics of books instead of reading them". It's hardly a very stringently bounded category. Seeing injustice in colonialism, supporting colonialism, both of those have very likely been in books, as far as they know.

That was a good quote. British snarkiness can be funny but gets quickly tiresome. My husband went to a posh school and he can be a borish arse 😒 especially when drunk.
So THAT is why Colin and Rupert are -seemingly-such good friends. Whenever they are in a movie together, they are magnificent.
Back then they supposedly hated each other but have since made up and become friends.

As the English proverb says, tastes differ. Oscar Wild is one of my favorite playrights, his plays The importance and the Ideal husband are masterpices. I was disappointed. Both were too old for the parts.

I still have the program somewhere from the London stage play (pre-movie) with Colin and Rupert. Now I'm wondering if Cary Elwes was also in the stage production, which was rather brilliant.
How old was he here? I know he was 23 or 24 at the time of filming, but he looks like he could pass for 15 or 16 here (which makes sense considering the characters are around that age for the most part). But the voice also clashes with the appearance a bit...you wouldn’t expect a deep voice like that to come out of a kid who could pass for being that young.
Try and find a YT video with Alan Rickman as a young actor in Romeo and Juliet. That is very confusing, yet interesting, to watch, because he already had his distinct voice at a young age.
