I'm just wondering if they have fixed the map 2 issues? JB4 is telling me up to 8 maps available but I know that is a blanket comment to cover all available vehicles. Just curious what luck you have had with the maps. I currently have just an intake on the car. I will be installing an AFE axle back exhaust as well as a Go Fast Bits billet diverter valve upgrade at the same time as the JB4.
Basically they now have 3 maps for all conditions. The map 2 issue was only an issue in warm weather and on cars that had the w05 software update. It was an aggressive file. @@09kevinmoore its rwd. 0-60 is about traction as much as power. If you want power measurements you look at trap speed and 60-130. Currently jb4 is giving fastest times of any of the hybrid turbo including those custom tuned. Jb4 can bypass torque limits.

What about get big hp games. The block is forged supposeably. So if u do down pipe, intercooler, oil catch can, e85 an a bigger turbo with a chip ecu like a standalone. U dnt think u can get 6-700hp. Cuz on the kseries swap u do that an ur at 5-600hp stock block an it's aluminum. Compare too the alfa it's the same thing 2.0 with a turbo. Just has forges internal or block. So u think there's more power potential. Cuz even the q50 can push 800-600 after everything is upgraded.
Alfa messed up in the early advertising. Pistons are cast but cast doesn't automatically mean weaker. e85 or e40 tuning has been the limitation. Nobody has done it yet. Supposedly ideal race may. There is a bigger hybrid available now too. I believe 450 HP or so will be the next testing point for folks
@bhvrdr the only reason I brought it up for discussion was cuz some one in a video was like ya forged block or pistons. So I was like there like n54 then they can wit stand alot of boost for more power. But u just cleared the air now. Alfa is more like shits an giggles if u want power then it's not the route I assume. Cuz I'm in the market for a car an alfa was one of them wanted to see wts maximum potential. Ur the only video I found that has 400hp. It's get a q50 3.7 or alfa 2.0t but I thinking just wait an pull the trigger on a f80 m3. Cuz the alfa is nice but I like to have power cuz I tend to get bored of cars. Thanks for the response
I am about to pull the trigger for 8speed giulia veloce q4. It will be the first alfa for me. I am skeptical about engine longevity after tune. I am driving bmw 428i and not sure if I go for a chanfge or not… thanks
Its been a pretty reliable engine. Very few failures. Luckily you can code in race mode which removes esp and tc. Its a very fun car. Turn in is otherworldly.
You have Boost sensor and intake manifold pressure sensor. MES can get both, i think Box need to be connected also to both sensors, so you can choose, what measurement you get from MES to compare.
The box just sees voltage as that's what the sensors are. Then the tuner calibrates / interprets. The jb4 is interpreted by the tuner off the boost tube which is why the boost reads low compared to true intake manifold psi

Hi there thank you for your feedback. Because this turbo gives more power in the upper rev band it doesn't necessarily have much more torque down low which is what can destroy things like transmissions and rods and axles. The turbo makes outstanding boost still at 2500rpm and only peaks about 500rpm later. The powerband is now linear where you build power all the way to redline unlike the stocker that literally spikes at 2k rpm when you don't need boost and dies off by redline where you do need boost

0-60 is all about traction. Without adding grip you're 0-60 can actually get worse the more powerful the car is. I do 4.0 to 60 but thats spinning. The important numbers to me are 60-130 which is improved by 3 seconds :)
What do you say to people that may call you an idiot for pushing this car? I'm coming from the Subaru community where even though its "unreliable", pushing things are encouraged. I just made a post to the alfa giulia owners FB group asking if anyone would like me to do an install video on a downpipe and was immediately met with backlash by some guy "shaking his head" that i would even mention putting a catless downpipe on. Said it sounds like shit, does nothing, and smells awful. Where has the car community gone? Or are newer platforms always like this?
These cars are stout. Zf8 is awesome transmission. 2.0l is pretty reliable so far. That said the catless downpipe will not help much at all and has alot of drawbacks from instant warranty denial to sounding poor to bad emissions and smell to p0420 cel and definitely dont use the mini cat defoulers as they will mae the ecu think its running lean.
The transmission is bulletproof and the entire motor rotating assembly is forged aluminum. The strength of the power train doesn't scare me. The surrounding components and rather unusual nature of the multiair system is what scares me. I don't have the money or resources to risk throwing away an entire car if my Giulia blows up.
Old school WRX/STi Suby guy here (and an Alfa guy since the 90's) I'd add that it's getting nearly impossible to find a tuner for catless cars. The risk of crushing financial penalties is too high. (and it smells like hell!) You can get better flowing downpipes with high flow cats / GESI that essentially outperform the old catless pipes that we were throwing on our bugeye rex's back in 2002. I agree with the feeling though...especially on some particular euro forums. You have uber snob QV guys that dash any idea that a non-QV should be seeking performance improvements (What are ya, a poser?!?!) and the other guys who think it's perfect out of the box and we should all leave them alone, keep your warranty and resale value for when you trade it in to maximize your returns (or something).lol

I know this is an older video, but I have watched all of your Giulia videos and I wonder if I could pick your brain for just a few moments. I have a 2019 TI Sport and I just ordered the JB4.
So they kept it but now it's called map 3. It will work for 99 percent but you can choose the latest map 1 or 2 if it's too aggressive. Honestly I have zero issue with map 1. It's a great map to use
@@bhvrdr The other question I have is the fuel. I know you only run Shell 93 octane in your car. Unfortunately I live in northern Arizona and the highest I can get is 91 octane at the pump. Would you recommend I run an octane booster in each tank? Do you think I will be okay on the maps? Sorry to bombard you with so many questions. I just really like to educate myself on everything with my car.
@@drivingonimpulse no problem. 91 is just fine. The timing on these cars is extremely conservative. Octane booster will just leave orange deposits all over your pistons, plugs, cats, O2 sensors.
@@bhvrdr Gotcha. That makes sense. Is there really a noticeable difference between maps 1, 2, and 3? I assume is just slightly more aggressive boost and timing. If it throws the car in limp mode I'm assuming I just re flash to the next tune down and try again. I'm also at an elevation disadvantage as I live at 5000 ft. And thank you again for taking the time to chat. I absolutely LOVE this car. So getting some extra oomph out of her is exciting.

Hey great video and really cant wait to get my hybrid turbo. Was waiting for eurocompulsion to launch but taking too long! Do you have any times like 0-60mph to see improvement? Also can I get jb4 in uk?
Thanks! I've done 4.00 to 60mph with rwd slipping. Id ask terry at bms if he can sent you one there
Hmmm I thought it would do a little under that tbh with the extra power. I have eurocompulsion v2 intake and filter, throttle control with launch assist, ecu remap to 327bhp, gfb diverter valve, premium non runflat tyres and get about 0-60 in 4.5 RWD with 95 octane so I'd be hoping for room for improvement on that :D my concern with jb4 is it's a piggyback right? Would a permanent tune be better and if so where would do this for the hybrid turbo as I know not a lot of people have tested this yet?
@@09kevinmoore its rwd. 0-60 is about traction as much as power. If you want power measurements you look at trap speed and 60-130. Currently jb4 is giving fastest times of any of the hybrid turbo including those custom tuned. Jb4 can bypass torque limits.
Ah okay well thats good to know. Just never used a piggyback before. Will the map for the hybrid turbo overwrite my current or do I have to reset to stock first? Is bypassing the torque limit safe?
@@09kevinmoore the hybrid turbo map will be in the map 6 slot. You can still have access to map 0 (stock), 1, 2, 3 which are for stock turbo. Yes you want to bypass torque limiters to make power. All engine safeties remain. If you dont want to bypass torque limiters you can just set it for less power too. Completely adjustable
Hello,
Can i ask about who makes the custom map for you and the custom map in jb4 is map 6?
I made it. Yes map 6 is fully programmable. I have plenty of experience calibrating s9 this is extremely simple. I posted my maps on giuliaforums for anyone to use
I'm ordering the 430. Any supporting mods you recommend? How hard is the install?
Since its open deck, not sure how much boost can it handle… redline is strangely low… all those make me worried about the engine longevity… another thinkg is no esp switch and speed limit.

@@bhvrdr sure, but for each sensor you have datasheet with calibration data, ECU use those parameters, Jb4 also should use same ones.
@@michapawowski6188 jb4 had to manually calibrate versus a mechanical boost gauge that was hooked up to the boost tube. You can see readings are different but jb4 was hooked up to the same sensor as the gauge
@@bhvrdr why they need to do this manually?
@@michapawowski6188 I don't believe they had datasheet for the sensors. Even other tuners contacted me for the datasheet for intake air temperature as they are pulling the incorrect data of turbo coolant temperature instead but Terry at jb4 had to model it. Hi there thank you for your feedback. Because this turbo gives more power in the upper rev band it doesn't necessarily have much more torque down low which is what can destroy things like transmissions and rods and axles. It is okay for both rear wheel drive and all wheel drive cars. I cannot speak to the robustness of manual transmission cars though because we don't get them in the United States.

In testing at around 31psi i did blow the turbo. This was after being viven permission by the muchboost team to literally run it above warranty limits to see what breaks so they can learn from it and mske it stronger. No issues at all at 28psi though
How about a turbo lag, responsiveness, especially at lower rpms, how does it compare to the stock turbo?
The turbo makes outstanding boost still at 2500rpm and only peaks about 500rpm later. The powerband is now linear where you build power all the way to redline unlike the stocker that literally spikes at 2k rpm when you don't need boost and dies off by redline where you do need boost
Perfect, how about the turbolag, responsiveness?
