I adore this song: the lyrics, the melody, the vocals and the guitar underneath. It's for sure one of my absolute '90s country favorites. Hal was a terrific talent in my opinion. Others already pointed out "Past the point of rescue", which is one of his best and most successful songs, so I will suggest "I miss my Mary".
Anybody who grew up in - and left - a small town, really gets the last verse about never coming back. Hal Ketchum was once called the guy that other country artists listed to. Would definitely recommend "Past the Point of Rescue", "Sure Love", the songwriting is brilliant.
Such a great song! Glad you enjoyed it! True story: I heard this song when it came out. I didn't know the name of it, who sang it, and there was no internet back then to look it up. I spent quite a while in the CD section at Target looking at song titles on the back of countless CD cases to try to figure it out. I found a song called "Ninety Miles an Hour (Down a Dead End Street)". The singer was John Berry and the album was "Standing on the Edge". I bought the CD. It was not the right one, but I got a good album out of it!
Thanks so much Derek for this fabulous request - it's one of my faves! This was the first single from Hal's great album Past The Point Of Rescue from the early 90s (great era of country music!). Thanks Don for the outstanding reaction!
Hal is so great. I always tend to think of him as an independent artist because his sound was so much different than everything else on country radio at the time. It was the peak of the "Hat Acts" and their neo traditional honky tonk. He was doing Americana rural rock.
Thank you Derek for your request. I have always loved the sound of this song and the lyrics as well. Great vocals by Hal. I came from the small town of Montauk, NY. 😢 I never wanted to leave. It took me 78 years to do so. 😊 For me: Best place ever. Thanks Don for a great reaction as well.
I grew up in a town of 6,000. The nearest big cities were two hours away, and they were about 200,000 (Lubbock and Amarillo). It was over three hours to the DFW metroplex. Anyway, I can relate to this song. I remember shining a spotlight on the sensors on the city street lights to make them go dark. Small town fun.
I have family in small town Texas and this song is a perfect example of that. They know there’s more out there but they can’t leave. There’s nothing to do but go crazy or have kids. I love this song.
Thanks Don, glad you enjoyed it. I have always lived in the country, but the nearest town and where I graduated from had 1200 people and at the time one stop light (no longer there now) this song just always makes me think of it.
Thanks Derek and Don!! Good song with lots of memories. Probably early 90's because I was dating a man who disliked country music, but he could relate to this song which he said could have been written about his hometown. People leave town and they never come back.
Oh, hmm. I always search to make sure he hasn't done a song before I request it. And didn't see that he had done anything of Hal's. Maybe it got removed.

Can't go wrong with JB. Such a pure voice.
I'm almost positive you've reacted to this one before. Lol you should check out "past the point of rescue" its by far my favorite Hal song. :-)
Thanks for your reaction. Official video is hilarious ... Little People actors acting.
Great reaction. Now highly consider doing the title cut of that album - Past the point of rescue.

This song was huge in the 90s. A staple of my childhood!

Thanks so much , Derek. I've suggested to his song myself on a few channels. I love Hal Ketchum.
Thanks to Don too.

Ilike this from Hal and Past The Point Of Rescue Thanks Don and Derek

The album was released in 1992
Its from his debut album in 1991
I’m from small town Nebraska, this one hits hard

Full blast on the car stereo…..
I miss Hal. He passed away a few years ago from Alzheimer’s. 💔
I loved his music .❤ RIP Hal😢. You are missed
Love Hal... good 👍 choice.
The video that goes with that, is a western movie from the50's? (Ithink). All dwarves riding Shetland ponies. It's wild! (As well as funny)
This song is very easy to play on guitar. I use to play it all the time.
2024- Everybodys broke and bobbys got 30 bucks puts a half a tank of gas in his pickup truck 😂
Written when "a Dollars worth of gas" would actually get you more than a cup full
Love this one
1991, when the album came out
if you get a chance please do past the point of rescue by hal.
It was from 1991, next you need to do "Past The Point Of Rescue" by him, it's his best song.
You did this song already, 3 years ago
He did, but he didn't rate it back then.
Oh, hmm. I always search to make sure he hasn't done a song before I request it. And didn't see that he had done anything of Hal's. Maybe it got removed.

@evanhughes1510 interesting, totally missed it somehow.
could you please react to Aaron Lewis - One In The Same (Lyric Video)
Logic should tell people the world isn't flat ... Cats would have pushed everything off the side ...
Hey don't disrespect Philly....
