Even though Elpenor was completely scrapped from the soundtrack, he definitely needs to be a character in the broadway show. Nothing big, but just a noticeable background character in the first few Sagas. That “wow” scene was absolutely perfect for the way he should be portrayed Then you need to have him appear at the very end of There are Other Ways where he falls and dies. Have it be really quick, in the background, and bring no attention to it. Everyone is so focused on the epic climax of the song that nobody is looking at the corner of the stage. Then of course have him with the dead soldiers when they travel into the Underworld. But it doesn’t stop there, imagine if his spirit made a few random cameos throughout the show in the background. A blink and you will miss it type of thing. I feel like Elpenor has the perfect potential to be one of those random background characters that fans absolutely love and meme about. about 2 months ago, for theater class, I memorized this portion of the Odyssey where Elpenor meets Odysseus in the underworld, and it makes me so so happy that he is getting his recognition rn
I can’t help but DO laugh at this adaptation of Elpenor half dramatically blaming Oddie for his tragic death The original story had him asking Odysseus to bury him respectively was more impactful “I ask that you remember me, and do not go and leave me behind unwept, unburied, when he leave, for fear I might become the gods’ curse upon you; but burn me there with all my armor that belongs to me, and heap up a grave mound beside the beach of that gray sea, for an unhappy man, so that those to come will know of me. *Do this for me, and on top of the grave mound plant the oar with which I rowed when I was alive and among my companions”*
In the Odyssey, it's literally: The crew: Oh wow, it's everyone who's died -- Elpenor?! How did you get here first? Elpenor: I frickin DIED and you guys didn't notice. Odysseus: That's rough, buddy. Can we, uh, to anything to make it up to you? Elpenor: A burial would be nice.
Before hearing about this, I figured the 43rd man under Odysseus' command was, well, Odysseus himself. Like it's indicating he's responsible for his own actions and for his life just as he is for those of everyone else who serves under him. I like this Easter Egg, though. It's extremely ironic and tragically hilarious
"558 men! Who died under your command" Odysseus: "Elpenor, I see you over there, I'm pretty sure you were not dead when we were leaving Circe's palace" Elpenor: "yeah, about that..."
I KNEW IT!!!! I have been doing math in Epic recently, first I did death numbers and I need to start the year numbers. After a bit of brainstorming with me and my friends we came to the conclusion of Elphanor and his death being canon in Epic
Poseidon: “43 left under your-“
*Elpinor falls*
Poseidon: “… 42 left under your command”
Words can't describe the humor in gained from this

“I ask that you remember me, and do not go and leave me behind unwept, unburied, when he leave, for fear I might become the gods’ curse upon you; but burn me there with all my armor that belongs to me, and heap up a grave mound beside the beach of that gray sea, for an unhappy man, so that those to come will know of me. *Do this for me, and on top of the grave mound plant the oar with which I rowed when I was alive and among my companions”*
What a legend. Got turnt, tripped and fell, and decided to die mad about it.
In the Odyssey, it's literally:
The crew: Oh wow, it's everyone who's died -- Elpenor?! How did you get here first?
Elpenor: I frickin DIED and you guys didn't notice.
Odysseus: That's rough, buddy. Can we, uh, to anything to make it up to you?
Elpenor: A burial would be nice.
This drove me insane when I started listening to Epic, I'm so happy I found this explanation
"558 men! Who died under your command"
Odysseus: "Elpenor, I see you over there, I'm pretty sure you were not dead when we were leaving Circe's palace"
Elpenor: "yeah, about that..."
Oh wow. I love this musical!!
You remind me of the cool cousin that you only see once or twice a year, but when you do it’s a vibe
Mr. Jalapeño, you so tricky! Poor Elpenor... 😔
I KNEW IT!!!! I have been doing math in Epic recently, first I did death numbers and I need to start the year numbers. After a bit of brainstorming with me and my friends we came to the conclusion of Elphanor and his death being canon in Epic
Mr Jalapeño you are something else
LMAO this is hilarious! I forgot about Elpenor until I saw his name on the whiteboard for the first years in English class. I guess it's fitting.
Well, 🎶what will we do with the drunken sailor? 🎶
I love that 😢 it’s funny, but I think the melody is serious enough it counteracts it. Wouldn’t stop the memes though 😂
elpenor is one of those names that i think reaches unfortunate language evolution much like pupenus
why is that "ELPENORRRR" so heavenly though 😭
