It's incredible to me that after so many years, the Smiths, and Johnny's writing still cast a pretty wide shadow, influencing so many guitar players and inspiring so many fans, especially considering they were only together for what, 4 years?
I listened to way too much of the Smiths as a 15 year old in 85'. Superb band, and now I've grown out of a teenage melancholy funk , I'm still astonished how good they sound. Johnny is a true master of his craft, Moz ain't no slouch either.
@@nathanadnitt hahaha same here, 19 yo who has just re-discovered them cause my parents played their music back when i was 10 or so. Its a shame we will never be able to see them perform again
the last time they had contact according to johnny’s book was after johnny emailed a photo of a smiths fan protesting to morrissey & he responded within minutes. idk where it all went wrong so it’s such a shame that it has
Although not a fan of what Marr has been doing recently I was pleasantly surprised by his choice as it's by far one of my favourites too and not what I expected!
"Some girls asses are bigger than their mothers asses" is a real charmer too ❤ ... lol 😂 (Not sure if it makes you a charming man or not entirely charming but perhaps whimsical yet endearing? ... lol 😂 ❤
Jon Karakas it was a truly magical evening. same again in Birmingham next week. very nice decent, honest person. very smart and quick. great to hear him talk and get 15 seconds to touch souls and shake hands with my Johnny. if you've not read set the boy free I suggest you do. he is very on the ball and very respectful. but someone gets a bad touch.... but don't do bad stuff on your mates if you don't want a bad touch. very simple philosophy. Happy Christmas.
Start of Miserable Lie is a good riff alright. At one live Smiths show, there is an additional longer and different riff intro. If I find it I'll post back
plasticbudgie yeah sorry meant to update- this is the nice extra little riff at the start live in Madrid (1985 I think) th-cam.com/video/JhtQUyDMm-s/w-d-xo.html
God morrissey was blessed to find johnny : vice versa too of course. I mean , some of that stuff was kissed by god. Last night ?? Probably one of the most beautiful pieces of all time Never trust anyone who hates smiths. Im not such a fan of johnny-s solo stuff . Easy money was ok Some of the the was great. Bits of electronic Smiths sound better and better the further we go down the road
Funnily enough - same here! I learned almost every Smiths guitar riff by ear (in conjunction with bootleg videos back before the days of TH-cam) but never had the urge to learn this one…
The very first riff on this clip is "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore." So beautiful
It also sounds s little like the into to half a person
Johnny Marr's guitar is like a daydream being put to sound
It is his exact words actually
Johnny Marr is amazing. It’s really hard to comprehend he was in his early 20’s when he wrote these songs . Really amazing !
Dreamiest guitarist of the 80's and forever after.
... Cocteau Twins?
Robyn Guthrie : This Mortal Coil/ C.T.
Reg Smithie & Dave Felding :
The Chameleons .
@@christophermclaughlin8917 Chameleons r S-tier
I can’t stop watching this. Last night i dreamt just sounds so sad/beautiful/melancholy- its like a drug. Its an orchestra to heartache.

5* but yeah its pretty crazy
It's not surprising at all.

Its funny how i was doing the same thing as a 15 year old back in 1985 ..saw them live a year later and life was never the same again..peace
Hope you lads enjoyed the 80s..im a young lad trying to enjoy the 20s, but its not that great haha

I thought "Some Girls" was his favorite riff. Might be mine.
Mine too
Are you Johnny marr?...... look in the mirror to be sure
As bigger than other's
This absolutely floors me. Before I die, just once I'd love to see Moz & Johnny reunite ☹️
Too bad Morriseys such a twat these days
they did a number of years ago and discussed the possibility of a reunion, but they quickly lost touch and it all got progressively worse from there
the last time they had contact according to johnny’s book was after johnny emailed a photo of a smiths fan protesting to morrissey & he responded within minutes. idk where it all went wrong so it’s such a shame that it has
That guitar sound like heaven
Just gorgeous. I wish he'd play his Rick more often. As much as I love the Jag the sounds he gets out of the Rickenbacker is jus otherworldly.
Insanely beautiful riff.
goose bumps all over!
ian :3
A master of his craft.

I’m 42 and I still can’t listen to “That Joke” anymore. It’s the saddest sounding song I’ve ever heard.
The one that really hits me emotionally, I'm so pleased it's his favourite.
In certain circumstances this can make me cry. Like now. If Bach had ever played a guitar he would have created music like this.
Thanks for recording this!
Oh, it’s always been my favorite. I play those riffs all the time and never get tired of it.
No hope no harm, just another false alarm
ChosenCrosseyed so tell me how long....
Wow. That happens to be also my favorite Smiths riff
my favourite of his riffs is probably from still ill
agreed
Matchless talent!
Haunting chords
...tears at 1:30 mark.
i would have just cried , haul me in call me in
...I cried when I read his book although that was more through boredom
Does an orchestra's work on six strings does Johnny
"Some girls asses are bigger than their mothers asses" is a real charmer too ❤ ... lol 😂

my hero
Genius. Absolute genius
My favorite is all of them
No hope, no harm... just another false alarm
Definitely my favourite Smiths tune too
Oh my, you lucky souls who managed to get to witness that I envy you, how cruel that he didn't elaborate and continue for longer though...
mine too! amazing thanks.

Became teary eyed in the end
My favorite riff is the one from barbarism begins at home but these ones are beautiful
I could almost hear Morrissey singing...
Last night i dreamt, and i often do how about how we take youth for grantedm
Sounds incredible especially the first one .still reckon headmaster ritual though
Legend
Is a beautiful riff.
What's wrong with people? Why is everyone not applauding, cheering, weeping etc.
last night i dreamed somebody loved me from strangeways which is thier best album by far in my humble opinion
thats their last record i believe and sooo many amazing songs on it..very underrated
Pure genius 🙌
the best
But, sadly, no Golden Lights
Holy Hell...

Wow!
wow !
🙋🏾 I made it double figures!
Which song is it?
What's the first tune?
I think It's the end of That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore - when the song fades back in.
jeezoh000 Yes!
+jeezoh000 it is
Nice close up
is that John Savage interviewing him?
whats the song called that he played right at the beginning?
That Joke Isn’t Funny Anymore - from Meat is Murder LP
nunca me lo imagine, esa es la cancion mas trsite de la historia, segun la bbc
What is the first song Johnny Marr plays on the g live clip?
That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore
Shades of steve hackett's hands of the priestess?
yes there's certainly a little nod to that at the start I think having listened to it
What's the tune?
Last Night I Dreamt....
First one is 'That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore'
that somebody loved me....
Funny, that's prob my least fave riff
