  • Can a 17 handicap golfer really see any difference in performance between these two Taylormade golf balls.
    We test driving bunker shots and just general play on the course.
    Thanks again for all the support.

    Thank you for your on course testing, of these 2 golf balls.
    I've been trying the Stripe, and now trying the TP5. I found over 9 holes of golf. The TP5 was a lot more consistent and controlled than the Stripe. But I've got a dozen of both and some more rounds to play.

    I used the stripe ball for a short time and was impressed with the feel and the how it played. I would definitely put myself less than the average golfer because of my age and inconsistency (getting better though). Recently I have used a pro v1, for no other reason than I got a good deal on a box and my curiosity needed feeding. Sadly I found I was playing better, drives longer and short game more accurate. I say sadly because I may have to continue gaming the ball until I can convince myself it’s nothing to do with the ball… or I spend my entire pension on prov1 balls. I bloody hate this game 😂😂
    Great video Lewis…. You get better every time I see you play. 👍

      Thanks for the kind words I'm feeling great at the moment. Long may it continue 😅
      Mesh uses pro v and loves them which I think is another factor. Golf all is about confidence so if you confident with a certain ball that's going to give you better results then any other ball, tour quality or not. Thanks again Barrie 🙌

    Can’t just base it off drives. The Tour Response is less spin so it’s going further. The TP5 is a higher spinning ball which means it’ll be superior with irons/approach shots and wedges around the green! The Response is going to be a better ball off the tee no doubt.

      Thanks for stopping by. As I mentioned at the start I didn't have any data to back anything up, this test was literally to see if an average golfer like myself and like many others can get away with a tour response as opposed to a premium TP5 which is more expensive and the arguement was will we see any difference at our ability between the two balls. Both balls are incredible balls It was just a case of seeing if a tour response ball is good enough in its price range 👍

    tp5 made for better players, incredible spin, harder ball... meant for faster swingers.
    for an average player, dont waste your money
    tp5 shines in areas for example.. 60 yard shot over water and a bunker where the pin is 8 foot off the fringe on a downward slope--- that's where it shines...
    I'm all in with q star tour, does everything well.. check out the comparisons between the response and it

    This video just isn’t very helpful because you didn’t hit enough balls. You could hit the sweet spot a couple times on one ball and not on the other.

    • @GOLFDAYS
      @GOLFDAYS  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely fair comment. Ultimately this video was more of an introduction to the two balls, could I see a significant difference between the two balls at completely different price ranges. if you then want to dive further into comparison's then there are plenty more videos out there that would give you the numbers. Performance wise there was nothing wrong with the cheaper ball when comparing to one of the most expensive balls on the market

    Might have a look at the Tour Response as I use the Srixon Q Star Tour, and I did a similar test with my ball and a Pro v1 and found the Pro v just a little to clicky for my liking and obviously the price again does help with the decision making.

    • @GOLFDAYS

    • @GOLFDAYS
      @GOLFDAYS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe you're right. At the time they felt the same but doesn't this cement my theory, being average golfers our strike is inconsistent so would we ever get the most out of a premium ball to warrant the price difference? Thanks for watching 🙌

    I heard someone say that the TP5 is a very unforgiving ball. Your thoughts?

    • @GOLFDAYS
      @GOLFDAYS  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting. I didn't find this. It's a more spinny ball so you could see the argument. You are more likely to get unwanted extra spin (side spin)

  • @Alan_Edwards
    @Alan_Edwards 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    As another average golfer I usually stay in the mid priced premium ball range. So in the Titlelist world the Velocity or the one I game now, the Tru Feel. I know it might be a weird criteria but I like the sound of a softer ball versus the clipping sound like the Pro V's make. As I understand it most of the top tier balls have higher and more consistent spin rates, especially with wedges around the greens, which the pros and some other low handicap golfers like. And that is even with the harder outer shell, which accounts for the clipping sound, so they do not sacrifice distance off the tee. I am not at the skill level so I suppose if I get good enough were spin rate becomes a consideration, I might go another route. Enjoyed the analysis either way. It was fair and impartial IMO and shows that the average golfer will likely not benefit from the more expensive ball - except for maybe looking good in front of their friends !! Oh and pretty soon your going to have to call yourself a slightly "better' than average golfer mate.

    • @GOLFDAYS
      @GOLFDAYS  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that was always my look on it being honest. I used always play Wilson balls which were great but yes like you said I wanted a ball that satrted to give me a bit more check up on greens which is why I went up a stage. Im glad the thoughts came across on the video that is was really a case of do we really benefit from tour balls or are we just paying the prices to like you say look clever in front of mates. Thanks for watching 👍

    32 yards difference! Almost strange. I guess you did strike Response a little better even it didn’t felt so. I have hit all Titleist balls and regarding distance they are about the same for me…as an average golfer with exception for AVX which is longer. Lower spin, longer drives. I guess that is the other reason for your results…Response spin less.
    I have also tried the Response ball. For me it is shorter on driver compared to AVX, but about five yards longer on irons. Response spin a little more on the greens for me compared to AVX.
    Then I don’t like the stripe pattern on the Response ball…I haven’t tried the yellow or white.
    Which ball to play? Same every time. Choose the one you like the feel and look of.
    Great review! Thank you!

      Hello Jonas
      Thanks for the great insight into your experience. You are probably absolutely right with what you say, I must have caught it a little better. I suppose this again proves the point I make that we will never be consistent enough to really benefit from the top of the range balls so do we need them.
      I love your details about the other balls thanks. I quite like the stripe but don't like the srixon divide balls (half one colour)
      Yeah I agree that sometimes you play the ball that just feels right to you.
      Thanks for watching and thanks for the discussion.

    I used TR for long time now, then the titleist AVX came out and I hit them it definitely got more bounce and distance then TR. But around the green not so friendly as TR as I heavily depend on shot game scoring. the price point is around 15 dollars different. Not worth it back to TR for me.

    We can’t talk about price anymore on these. The fact the tour response is now 42.99 in the states as opposed to 39.99….the gap between them and the top tier TP5 & TP5x is almost zero spread over a dozen.
    My fitter suggested the TR for me and my session data showed it was working with my swing and iron build.
    I’m gonna try and game the tp5x as well to compare.

    I know this blog is a year old, but I wanted to see if anyone else had experienced the same thing I did when gaming these two balls.
    I played the stripe last year for about 6 months, then switched to the TP5 pix for the last couple of rounds and I’m sold on the TP5! I’m not a long hitter, so my short game has always been good; I’ve hit more FIR with the TP5’s and that feel around the greens are to die for!
    So after trying several balls out this past year, I think I’ll stick w/the TP5pix at least til the end of the year.
    Great review! 🙌🏾
