I love Helle knives. I am half Norwegian. My mother brought me back a Fjellmann on her last trip to Norway and I bought a Dokka for myself. Really nice video. Now I want one. Thanks 🎸🔪🇳🇴
Back to our previous conversations the Banshee and Renegade…You know I prefer the smaller versions as they fit me better. With that said, I’m excited to add the Helle Nordlys to my rotation soon 😀🌲 Thanks for another excellent video, Joe & Ida!
A micarta version is going to be awesome! Was thinking about picking up a Nord, now I'll almost surely get one when the micarta option becomes available.
@@inforestsandlands Thank you 🙂 It's weird since when I click on YT link directly from FB , I am logged out. My likes & comments don't get posted. But glad you saw this one 🙂
Can't wait for a lefty option. Though when in the woods I find I actually end up using my Leatherman more, and having my belt knife on the right balances the belt better. This of course comes into play when using a knife I only have a right sheath for. Side props to Mora for making the Garberg sheath reversible. Rarely are we southpaws considered.
A wonderful looking pair, and it looks like you might be able to leave the axe at home when carrying the larger Nord Wishing you the best in your new venture brother!
Cool vid and nice knives but after buying a couple of jokers knives any thing else from other knife makers is just a over priced knife, these knives that cost more than a joker nomad are knives you paying extra for the name and don't perform much better in my humble opinion
@Rust_valley_racing sure brother ,each to their own needs and bidgets. The same could be said for everything. But I don't see anyone trading down to 1998 Toyotas or buying second-hand furniture. I find it interesting that in our space , there is a large diaspora of people who love to kit shame. Kit shaning works both ways up and down the scale.
@inforestsandlands I'm not shaming anything , but you just paying for a name in most cases and I prefer old vehicles to new vehicles because they are built better and made with better quality steel compared to anything new which uses cheaper made steel in our throw away society, do a comparison on quality and which keeps its edge and ease to sharpen.. joker nomad 5 or 6.5 to the knife you are repping for the company , I can see for double the price it won't be double the quality, this is the problem these days with out door equipment you paying big money for so called high brand stuff that doesn't perform or hold up for double the cost of it to justify the extra cost of the so called high brand against a cheaper brand item .please Don't take it personal but let's keep it real with real affordable stuff that dont cost silly prices , if you want to encourage people in to the outdoors and bushcraft you already putting people off on repping a exspensive knife they think they'd need to be able to do bushcraft etc
@Rust_valley_racing great to hear you do, and I appreciate you, brother. Both the interaction and the clicks. We do have a throw-away society, and sadly, "affordable" knife brands are the worst in the space for it. Helle has been using the same 3 materials for 100 years. Sourced locally, except for laminate steels, which come from a small family run business in France. They gent who hand makes the handles for instance has been doing so for 30 years. No firing of craftsmen to be replaced with high production machines. The helle factory literally supports a small community in the small village where it is and on its 3rd generation of family owners. I say this is not in defence but as an example of different forms of value.. Like I said, people can pay the dollars on what they want. I don't judge a guy for having a titanium snow peak cup anymore than I do someone using a plastic one. I just think it is an interesting discussion. My value is placed in the people who make the knives. Mora, opinel and BPS are all cheaper than joker and do just as good. But we all judge value and where we place the dollars we personally earn, differently. It's a big interest for me, a guy who designs and tests as his full-time job, equipment for the outdoor space. If it's at all possible to find a happy medium.
I have a helle harding which I've been very underwhelmed with. The steel is just OK considering the price, and the wood handle started to split under normal use (not batonning!). I cut away the split section and carried out an ugly fix but I can't say I'd ever buy one again.
@@inforestsandlands It was a gift from my wife so a replacement wasn't really an option . I forgot to mention the large gaps in the wood too, gaps in the grain large enough to be unhygienic when using for hunting/fishing. I had to fill them with clear epoxy before using it.
@TheEriccurtis so do ours. I've been in this knife game a long time. Everyone wants to know can a blade field dresses, split wood, read your tarot cards, and do your taxes. So I try to answer em as best I can.
@ Helle makes a beautiful knife, I like a bigger knife and didn’t buy the Harding because it was to small for me, nice to know Helle has a more substantial size now, I just might buy the Nord in micarta when it arrives, well done video, thanks for the information.
