You can tell males and females by the shape of their mouths even before whiskers appear. The females have horizontal oval shaped mouths where the males have move vertically oval shaped mouths. That’s what I have seen in my royal whiptails

When do the royal male farlowellas grow their beards? I’m pretty sure I have two female Royal Farlowellas(both 12 cm long), but I’m going to get two males soon

Royal whiptails and farlowellas are two different types of whiptails. Not 100% but I’m pretty sure farlowellas only grow there beard before they breed.
