- Breeding whiptail catfish is definitely not an easy process but Regina breaks it down to make it seem simple. Today we go in depth on how to breed rare whiptail catfish and how to get them to spawn. Regina also shares the details on what to feed whiptails, how to sex whiptail catfish and how to get high survival rates on the young.
This specific whiptail is a species called Sturisomatichthys aureus. They are considered a giant whiptail.

I cannot thank you enough for making this vid!! It's the single best vid on breeding and taking care of Whiptail fry that I've seen and there aren't many. I was at whits end trying to get my first ever Whiptail batch of fry, same as the highligted species here, to feed and collecting dead little bodies everyday was not nice. That's super cool! I've had one of these guys in my tank for close to two years. I always thought it was just called a stick nose catfish. I'll have to look up more about them now

Can you do a video on sulawesi shrimp? I just bought two as an experiment an I'm keeping them in 25C (78f) and pH 7. I know it's sub-optimal, but I want to see if it will work.

Yes, whiptails move around ALOT and unlike some shy plecos, they are always out and around.

Robert, they are removed before they hatch, so I am guessing they scrap off the glass. How many days after they are laid on the glass before they are removed? Thanks for sharing video, I am growing out two types of whiptails and this was helpful.

I may have missed it but when are the fry removed from the parents tank? Are the eggs moved to a different hatching container or just siphon the babies out of the main tank?
cswaing they take the eggs out after 3 days I believe. I know it is before they hatch. I'll double check with Regina :)

Breeding is the easy part, the 1st few days they are prone to starvaton because they wont search out food and most algae isnt soft enough for them
