    Wow. Been curling for 2.5 years and have just now stumbled across these awesome videos. Weight control is definitely one of my biggest issues, I get it down ok during a game, but have no real idea what I'm doing to get there. This video gives me something to focus on in practice and hopefully I can be more consistent.

    I have watched every video multiple times and constantly referring to "channeling Jamie" when I curl well! (can't blame you for my off days!)Thanks for all your help. Curling is booming in Denver! If you're even in the area give us a shout! You have lots of fans here

    Super helpful after throwing a draw for 1 to the back line last night on fast ice (they stole 2). Can't wait to practice this later. Thanks for all the tips. They're great!

    Thank you for your amazing videos! New curler here, in my first year. I'm a petite lady, having trouble generating enough weight to deliver the rocks. I would so appreciate any tips to help me work on this! And hope you keep making these videos when you can! :)

    Great video. Momentum = mass x velocity, not "weight times feet", but other than that small quibble, it's very helpful.

      It was more of a general analogy, though you are correct. Speed and velocity are different.

    @Jamie Sinclair -> Do you ever change where your foot is in the hack when delivering with different types of weight? I find it interesting how you say you "fall into the slide position" where I've had a number of different players in the Salt Lake city league tell me that if you want softer weight then put your foot closer to the bottom of the hack (near the ice), if you want take-out weight then bring the ball of your foot to the higher part or back of the hack to kick off faster. Thoughts on that? Thanks again for your videos and your advice! It is greatly appreciated and I want to improve my game and I love being able to ask you these questions. Thanks!!!

      Some people do believe that if you want to throw the rock harder you can bring your foot up in the hack (so that you have more to push off of) Personally i don't move my foot at all in the hack. I adjust my weight my slowing my body movement down from "back to hack" or by speeding it up and bringing my sliding foot farther back in the park position.

    Hi Jamie, you continue to put up great videos! I've found them very helpful as a (2nd year now) curler, and I hope you keep up the good work! Several of us reference your videos often at my club. Watching the "How to Line Up" and considering some of my own recent struggles with Line, I was wondering how you treat your "Field of Vision" (for a lack of better wording) during delivery. Some examples of things I've heard others talk about: Do you look straight at the broom the entire time, or do you pick a spot on your "Invisible Line" to concentrate on? Do you Every divert your vision during the slide? And I'm very interested if you and other curlers you know typically keep both eyes open or use a dominant eye and how that effects your line up? (Recently found out I'm a Right Handed curler who is Left Eye dominant, and I'm suspicious that's causing me trouble. Not sure if closing one eye or turning my head helps) Thanks and Keep posting! Best of Luck! :-)

    Hi Jamie, if sliding from one end to the other, where or how should my gripper foot be placed? How do I propel myself with my gripper foot? Thank-you

    • @CurlUpWithJamie

      You trailing leg should extended out behind you and your gripper foot pointed so that the only thing in contact with the ice is your toe cap.

    Hi Jamie, you mentioned using momentum to control the weight. I recalled you also mentioned that you'll do a follow through when releasing the rock. Did you typically use that follow through to control weight? or you are trying to only use momentum to control the weight? Thanks.

    Great video series! During the back-to-hack movement for up-weight/peels, is there any conscious thought of using your hack foot to "pull" yourself forward in order to generate speed (and then transition into a "push" after passing the hack), or do you think of your hack foot as merely an anchor and the extra speed is just from the farther "back" position of the sliding foot? Hope that makes sense. Chris

    • @CurlUpWithJamie
      @CurlUpWithJamie  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great point Chris! I definitely think that in order to generate more speed there is a pull motion. I didn't cover it in this video but it is a great tip.

    is putting your toe in the bottom part of the hack ( to slow down the momentum )...a bad idea?

    • @CurlUpWithJamie
      @CurlUpWithJamie  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No thats not a bad idea. Some people say that placing their foot in the bottom of the hack gives them less to push off of (i.e. less momentum) where as when they want to throw a big takeout weight shot they might move their foot up to have more to push off of (i.e. more momentum) I personally don't change my foot position for any shot but that is just a personal preference.

    I was wondering if it is better to slow down the slide or to lessen the distance between the hack and the back foot in the park position for weight adjustment. Any Ideas?

    • @CurlUpWithJamie
      @CurlUpWithJamie  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say just slow down that movement. Ideally for all draws your sliding foot should go back to the same spot in the park position. Only time you would change that is for takeouts on slow ice or peels... then you can bring that foot back farther. This allows you to get better consistency.

    Hi Jamie I love your videos! I am a second-year non-competitive curler and I go curling once a week during the season. I found that even though I know all the strategies in weight controlling I still can't find myself an "algorithm" for the weight. I can sometimes be very accurate but sometimes several feet off. Is it just a matter of the amount of practices for me? Are there any specific drills that I should do to improve? I hope you could help!

    • @CurlUpWithJamie
      @CurlUpWithJamie  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say thats just practice. Even the best curlers still struggle with that. You can try a drill where you try and throw a rock just past the hog line, the next rock just past that one, the next rock just past that one and so on. Try to get as many rocks as you can between the hotline and the t-line. So you are practicing slowly increasing your weight and working on that muscle memory.
