Saint nailed it when he said it just FEELS better to win invasions where you don't just delete the host with a couple button presses the second they get separated from their phantom. 1 hard fought win > 20 wins from braindead oneshots. IMO quality/hybrid builds give you the best gameplay experience in Fromsoft games, especially ER. They're not as strong as the more minmaxed builds, but they let you use enough tools to solve any problem, and the lack of raw DPS makes it so you have to actually think, strategize and puzzle solve to win vs just spamming one or two really strong moves.
fr im tired of people just using stats to win, I like actually having to try to win rather than it just being handed to me cuz I don't take damage and I do a lot of damage

Out of the 5 or so different builds ive made so far my strength build has by far been my favorite and ironically the most viable at all level ranges. Theres so much weapon variaty and awesome damage output. ive had the most fun with it and whenever i have a bad session invading i hop on over to it just to renew my confidence with some easy wins

In this world of gravity magic metoer showers and cosmic eldritch god spells i can win the easiest through fighting like a normal medieval knight would.
I have four builds, and my pure dex is the one I always go to after getting soured by ganks and long waiting times. It’s level 127 and has enough strength to wield the jar cannon 2handed, and enough stamina for 65 poise. My strength character is still at level 80 for invading the capital and volcano manor but I’m thinking of leveling it up to have a meta-ish strength build in my selection.
Can I just say that I’m glad we have folks like you who are just having fun with the game and not bitching and moaning about what’s wrong with it every single video.
dark bead was super easy to beat unless the opponent was laggy. just walk to their face and roll on reaction. once they finish the casts, they're done for.

I love black flame tornado its like thunderstorm on crack. Also works really well on bloodhound step users since they run right into it 90% of the time. Great vid as usual!

Anyway, when ER release was around the corner, I had assumed everyone and their dog was going to make casting hybrids by the looks of things. But a lot of people just went Str/Dex-man. And theres nothing wrong with that, but Bestial class of incants basically supported my original theory. Even a pure Str build can compliment their play with just these incants alone and a Seal designed for them. Its not going to hit hardest as pure Str without investing some Fth later, but you do have access to the best offensive incant in the game: Bestial Sling (Shotgun). Its crazy, and add to that, you can use FGMS which is a body buff and boosts both Str Infusion types. They wanted even Unga Str-man to be a caster this time around. A Dex/Fth Lightning build also goes over a lot of people's heads. 40 Dex + Radagon Icon = Fastest casting speed. Its enough Dex for Keen first soft cap most weapons. 40-50 Faith is where Gavel Stone Seal is strongest for Dragon Cult (Lighting Incants). Lightning blade on a Keen weapon with this build hits like a fucking truck, lasts 2 minutes with talisman, and you have 15% lightning incants at fastest cast. Hybrid builds are seriously the most fun in this game and Im getting around to showing mine off. But I swear that it was intentional that they wanted everyone player to lean in to casting this time around, with any build, even if a little. Sorry for the blogpost, but thanks for the awesome video.
The way you gain spell slots, by picking up an item instead of putting levels into a stat, i think is also an indicator that they wanted to encourage more people to try hybrid builds
Since week 1 I've put 12 faith on all my builds even my pure int build flame cleanse me bestial vitality and all the non physical defensive spell buffs are very valuable
the initial montage with "trisection" plastered a grin on my face. i made a squire themed build for this game that threw ruin fragments (killed godskin duo at level 26 so i could throw them indefinitely, that was fun, took 14 minutes), but now i realize i must aim higher!
Most people using BHS aggressively all do the same thing. They step in and attack. If you can get them in a pattern of doing it then it’s easily parried. If they use it to run then you basically just have to wait out their fp bar

Connectivity, conditions under which invasions happen, player limit, invasion zones, etc. I’m with Saint on the idea that win/lose really doesn’t -matter-. My biggest complaints are with the stuff I mentioned above
I don't see DS3 pvp being complex and deep, yes, there's things like swapping, true combos and backstab fishing. But in Elden Ring there's a lot more movement and equipment that's also customizable.
I’ve been running something similar on a Dex build, using instead the frenzied flame seal for its slight dexterity scaling. I am a little higher level (137) so I have a bit higher faith and include The Flame of Frenzy for its free aim roll catching. My favorite weapon so far has been my keen Warhawk’s Talon with beast’s roar, as the chase down of the weapon and weapon art (which doubles as a good longer range move) alongside beastial sling, catch flame, and flame of frenzy is pretty sick. You really don’t need many levels though, I could see this being quite effective at lower levels. I’ve been interested in trying a build that dips similarly into intelligence but haven’t had any inspiration yet.
Hey Saint, would love to see a video of you talking about the parrying timing for different weapons/AOWs, since your parry is always so on point, especially with the game's latency. I practice parry with the NPCs in PVE and almost always get it, but it's so hard in PVP.
Saint you should try out the Cinquedea, does insane damage for a dagger and its R2's stagger pretty well, its been one of my favourite weapons for PvP since I got it, I use it with a Beast Build and it works wonders, haven't done many invasions with it but the few I did went well, it can rack up damage fast on people who try to spam instead of roll The R1's are fast and hard to predict, but I still think its 1 of those weapons that have better R2's than R1's, so maybe you could find a cool combo with another weapon or spell (also the Quickstep lets you automatically do a backstep attack when you quickstep away from them, I find it really useful on weapons that have really good backstep attacks, unlike regular backsteps you get I-frames).
Crescent Moon Axe is my favorite looking axe too. I appreciate that it has sweeping heavy attacks, though the amount of time it takes to fully charge one seems comically lengthy. I think it may take longer than like, colossal weapon charged heavy attacks, but it's not stronger so I'm not sure why... Like Miyazaki has a vendetta against greataxes doing horizontal attacks I swear...
I've considered making a build like that sometime, minimum faith investment for some excellent tools. They did a pretty good job in that regard and with some of the catalyst scaling
Level 85 bandit build with +12 occult venomous fang has been really fun. Especially now that the running r2 true combos into a regular r2 if the enemy gets stance broken.
10-12 faith is a number everyone should strive for (even if it's only carrying the heirloom). It grant's access to every basic elemental fortification, easy and good spells, and access to frost/bleed cures for those who don't like fighting Elmir.
I think every starting class can hit 12 faith with the heirloom talisman, more people just need to get it if only for bestial vitality and flame cleanse me
I started creating an invasion build that I have called “Patience” and it is a vitality build that is going to be designed to make parties play the game, instead of sitting at the bonfire waiting to 3v1 the red man.
Doing strength/faith for the first time myself and I respeced my confessor to 30 strength with his starting faith and I was surprised how much mileage you can get from so little faith. The hard part is deciding between knight's greatsword and claymore.

Sit at a grace and you can put weapons in your uhh it was called bottomless box in DS1 I don't know what they call it in this one. Just look for the option at the grace.
Jar cannon only does like 75 dmg more, but it is much heavier than the Hand ballista. So if you need to swap back and forth without getting fat rolls Hand ballista's downside is not a bad sacrifice.
Imagine the power I would have if I could use that fashion talisman slot. But alas, I am a rad bed man. Will make a 2nd mean (to my standards) build soon though
Keen dagger with 80 dex will one shot on parry riposte. It can also be done on a 80 int build with the same dagger just magic infused no dagger talisman needed if your boosting your magic damage with the physick. It’s probably possible with flame art/holy also w with the corresponding physick and 80 faith. Have not tested that one yet tho.
I kind of want to make a bloodhound build purely to style on people that don't know how to use BHS for anything other than spamming dodge. Although personally I like quickstep more because it lets you do a running attack out of the quickstep.
Yo Saint - you should check out Crightt's videos on Elden Ring. He's got some of the best data for weapons and mechanics right now. For instance, he points out that the crit modifier for daggers isn't actually the entire story. Backstabs have MV values (i.e., the base modifier to any abnormal attack, like a heavy attack's modifier), and daggers have higher MV's for those. This is why even daggers without high crit modifiers can still do good crit damage compared to normal weapons.
Your positive attitude is infectious and it reflects your competency with the game. Contrast it with some other channels that are endlessly negative about er pvp. Look at their loadouts, listen to what they complain about. It's interesting stuff. Still think you're too intelligent to be playing this game, lmao.
How long does it take for you to get all the items, levels and invasions spots for a new build? Also have you tried starter character invasions? Can fir the drawn out fighting style you want, but it would be bothersome to obtain the invasion finger at that low level
Yeah +3 matches with +0 but up to +6 I think. Gankers know that and take advantage of it. Make a level 30 with +6. If the gankers show up during your 11+3 invasions, try invading with the 30+6 and see if you still get them.
How are you hitting people so hard with the bestial sling at only 12 faith? I have the clawmark seal on my STR build, but even if I two hand the seal it feels more like pocket sand than a rock shotgun.
I maxed out 4 straight swords on my dex build its the only build I went in to ng+ which I regret my pure STR build is stronger I wish I took that in ng+ but out of the straight swords with 70 dex lordsworn has the highest damage
To me the best way to use bhs is to escape certain spells/ashes that are obnoxious, like the sacred order sword wave of gold. Other than that using it to chase people. If you're good enough then a roll is enough to dodge most attacks so you're just wasting fp you could use for spells and ashes.

You should use determination instead of royal knights resolve on that dagger ,I believe. Determine has a +20% crit damage buff to it

I maxed out 4 straight swords on my dex build its the only build I went in to ng+ which I regret my pure STR build is stronger I wish I took that in ng+ but out of the straight swords with 70 dex lordsworn has the highest damage

To me the best way to use bhs is to escape certain spells/ashes that are obnoxious, like the sacred order sword wave of gold. Other than that using it to chase people. If you're good enough then a roll is enough to dodge most attacks so you're just wasting fp you could use for spells and ashes.
