  • In this video I show how to setup MeshChat on a Raspberry Pi connected to the AREDN network.

If you have trouble, look at this forum post on the AREDN community to change a config file within the APACHE2 program.

One thing that wasn't really clear in the video is the API install on your local AREDN node. Before you load MeshChat on your Pi, download the API package from the Meshchat website to your AREDN node, install and reboot your local AREDN node that your raspberry pi is connected to. Once that is done, you can load MeshChat on your Pi and in the localnode section of the config file, put the IP of the AREDN node running the API service.

NOTE: Meshchat 2.0 is replacing version 1.02, which is shown in this video.

I knew you guys were planning on putting AREDN nodes on the repeater towers, but I didn't know that had actually come to fruition. Time to start building a node at the KB0OTY QTH.
I'm all about data modes, it's 90% of my ham radio experience.

@@AA0Z It is. I ordered a ubiquiti (sp) dish that was hella on sale. It's on the AREDN list.

Are you going to be mad if I think we are going with 5.8ghz exclusively?

When you copy the Raspian Image to the SD card. I create a text file ssh and pull the SD and then I can putty into the PI

    Hi Folks.
    1) Installed as per the video & and also Trevor's bench notes. I can access the MeshChat no problem, but when I try to send the message it comes up with the following error = "Error sending message: Could not get lock" I cannot see any other users when they are connected to the MeshChat server either. I am running the latest nightly build. Any ideas, please? Grateful for your support.
    2) How do we add channels?

John, there is a link in the description to a forum port on the AREDN website to solve the could not get lock issue.
You can add channels within the chat program, but for everybody to communicate on the same server, the name needs to be agreed upon with those who want to connect.

I have a question. How do I change the port for mesh chat. The current port is port 80. How for my setup I have the following.
    Port 8082 for mesh cam
    Port 80 for a webpage
All I want to do is change that mesh chat port to something else.
