This one was a lot shallower than other graves I've seen into. Any particular reason?

We only dig single depth graves as we are a natural burial ground. Single depth is better for the environment as the body is less likely to release methane. Single depth is also safer for the grave digger. Hope that helps!

@@edenvalleyburials Am I right in thinking the body decomposes more efficiently in a shallower grave too?

Is it mostly peat or clay? Nice place, no trees... no random HUGE root to tie you up for hours.
Looks as if you were cutting a quarry into a giant piece of brownie. :)

It is clay. We only do ashes around the large oak trees we have been growing on site to form the upper story of the forest as not to hit the massive roots!

I actually enjoy digging. But this isn't Oxfordshire clay and brash. I have no idea how they manage at Fairspear, for example. Great technique. Using different sides of your body. I really understand the value of connecting with the good earth. I also understand the relationship with the earth. Sharp tools, eh? And respect. Gentle, quiet...I like the words he uses. I'd be more than happy to be buried in one of his graves.

Hello! No natural burial is shallower than traditional burial as the body decomposes releasing less methane the shallower the grave - you might find this interesting www.naturaldeath.org.uk/uploads/Forms/ANBG%20leaflet%20FINAL.pdf
