I seriously cannot understand how Apple, the company who coined "hand-off" as a feature of their walled garden, hasnt allowed Apple Music hand-off functionality that matches, or at least somewhat rivals spotify. It is absolutely baffling.
Apple Music honestly annoys me so much. It’s such a half assed effort. I’m in the same boat and it’s literally the only main reason I still use Spotify
@@sbh556but it doesn’t work automatically (and Apple Musik has way less support than Spotify Connect), when I start playing Musik on my Pc or Mac or any speaker, the controls just appear on any mobile device, be it Android, iOS or iPad Os, so I can control it from what ever device just sits in frond of me without unlocking it, controlling my HomePods even from my iPhone is pain
I think Spotify probably has a patent on the technology for Spotify Connect which prevents apple from doing something similar. It does frustrate me because I used Apple Music for so long and the Apple Watch being able to control the playback gave me hope that they might make it finally but still no dice
The reason why a substantial number of Apple Arcade games feel like F2P games is because the developers are paid (at least in part) based on playtime. So the dark patterns used to get you to spend on microtransactions are instead used to get you to keep playing.
@ChudDin88 Making a good product costs time and money. Which in turn costs profits. Someone probably made the calculation and decided doing it the shady way yields better profits.
@ChudDin88 Sadly that doesn't always work. Look to the game developer Bizarre Creations who made consistently good games such as the Project Gotham Racing series and the excellent James Bond 007: Blood Stone. The studio closed because people weren't buying the games in significant enough numbers.
@@voteDC No, it does work. It works enough. If it didn't, mobile gaming landscape wouldn't be the giant mountain of junk that it is, nor would social media.
@@voteDC among us was an "unknown nothing special yet another clone of another semi obscure indie game" until a pandemic happened, now billions atleast know of that game's name on pc/mac/tablets and mobiles
If you have a bigger family, it pushes you over the edge easily. Three people with 200gb each, 1 person with 50gb, two spotify subscriptions and you are already at the premier tier. For me it was a no-brainer. For a single person, yeah, it's different. It's definitely not outright a bad value proposition, which I thought it would be when I first looked at it.
Same here it was a no brainer. Just with taking pictures of our kids and filling up 50 GB in a few weeks was enough fit me to go premier. In doing so I actually started making use of fitness+ since I’m now paying for it and it’s been great 😊
You say its a no brainer but 1 person can split the iCloud+ 2TB storage with their family without needing Apple One. Just as you can share individual Arcade, Fitness+, TV+ and News+ (but not Music). So if all you're after is 2TB space and Music it still works out to be a bad deal as (UK pricing here but doesnt matter, the margins are the same wherever you are) Apple Music Family is £16.99, 2TB storage is £6.99 so your total is £23.98. Vs Apple One with 2TB which would be £32.95 - a £8.98/mo difference for some services none of you are using.
AppleTV+ is genuinely one of the top dogs in the streaming environment now. The shows they have are phenomenal. For All Mankind, Ted Lasso, Severance, Silo, Defending Jacob, Shrinking, and so many more. It’s goated. I also pay for iCloud+ 200 GB and Apple Music (which I reauthorize with my student ID from 6 years ago to still get a huge discount 🙃).
For All Mankind is a CRAZY good show too!! It’s like…Top Gun meets Contact meets Forest Gump meets The Expanse meets 2001: A Space Odyssey. I couldn’t stop watching.
Tv has crazy quality for… not a great price or content amount. Tetris was the best movie this year but it made me sad realizing nobody is going to watch it
I have Apple Music (as an Android guy) because its implementation of sideloaded songs is the closest to the seamless integration with streamed ones that Google Play Music had. Nobody has quite matched Google Play Music in that regard (including Google's own replacement for it...) but Apple Music comes the closest. The thing about news plus is that in many areas, you can access the same periodicals for free through your local library (like, online with your library card - you don't even need to visit a branch)
True, and that the service has lossless as well, it’s my favourite replacement for Google music. But I pay for everybody else in my family to use Spotify as we have Sonos speaks from the google music days.
I tried it before I got my device, because I got two months for free, on android. Dam the UI is awesome and everything felt polished. BUT, there is no good client like Spotify has. If I had the application open on my PC and I went with my speaker connected to my phone into the shower, it sometimes randomly stopped playing. When I got out I saw my phone saying that there is another device playing instead (just because I have the app open on the PC, it reigsters it as a device that is playing music). This never happens on Spotify, because there more devices can be used because of the Spotify Connect. If they fix that one little issue, I can see myself moving over.
I love how Jonathan was put in the spot when it came to the Watch and fitness. The truth is, a lot of people buy the Watch for the aesthetic. There’s no way Apple doesn’t know that. Imagine the people who bought the Ultra because the people doing extreme sports in the trailer hooked them in. It’s crazy.
I very much doubt many bought the Watch Ultra because they saw people doing extreme sports and thought that'd be great for them if they had no intention to 'do fitness' with it. The size of screen, the battery life, the aesthetic for some would be it. It's not JUST about extreme sports...
It's crazy to me, because back when I had a smartwatch, I basically exclusively used it for fitness purposes, and anything else just felt contrived when I could pull my phone from my pocket in one second. I ended up just getting a Fitbit Versa, and it fulfills all my "smartwatch" needs.
I have the ultra for the battery life and that’s about it. It floors me apple never just made an “extended battery life” model before the ultra, because it would be their top selling model every single year hands down.
Nah, a lot of the tech geek viewers buy it for the looks, but among “normal” people fitness is by far the number one reason for Apple Watch sales. I bought one and am a little embarrassed to wear it because I think smart watches are for nerds, but the health tracking and fitness is too good
I was a Spotify subscriber for 5+ years, then Tidal, Deezer, back and forward again and again. All have their pros and cons. Started using Apple music while I was using Android and the Lossless and Dolby audio on home theatre had me hooked. Value was a bonus.
i switched to apple music after almost 8 years with spotify. The spotify app is just hot garbage now. Artist, Playlist, Podcast, Albums everything is mixed together and you have to apply filters to see what you whant to see. Who the hell designs a app like this ? And recently they startet to play ads before and in-between spotify exclusive podcast even tho i was a premium user.
Thanks guys! As someone living in India, I'm just happy to have most of these services in the family plan, at under 5 USD (365 INR) per month, with 200 GB of storage. At 5 USD, having Apple Music + TV + Arcade + 200 GB storage is already way past the value for money mark. Also, Apple Arcade holds a lot of value for the casual, mobile gamer for a no-ads and no-fuss experience. No replacement for XBox or Playstation, but I think they were going for the mobile gaming market anyways
That still translates to 60$ a year in india. Where Amazon prime only costs like 18$ in india. So I wouldn't call it value for money. Good deal but not cheap
@@confused.cat. For starters, Apple One can be shared between five people (family group). That makes it 12 USD per person in theory. Amazon Prime offers one day delivery, and an excellent video library, but the music is pretty meh, and it doesn't offer the storage or gaming library access. If you have an Apple device, those work fantastic. Different use cases, essentially. And 60+18 USD is still a manageable number at a yearly level
Same here but i use music on a daily basis and wouldn’t want to go back to Spotify and arcade sometimes when bored on the go is nice too. I wish there was the news app too in Germany but it’s fine, maybe in future
TV+ content clearly favors quality over quantity and i love it! Severance, For All Mankind, Ted Lasso, the dinosaur documentary and just recently Silo are brilliant shows. Just to name a feew. The visual quality (maybe bitrate?) is also miles ahead of what Netflix and other services offer. Arcade games are getting better with some real bangers like Dead Cells, Pathless, Alba or Oceanhorn 2. The price of Apple One what it offers is unbeatable in my eyes. I'm pretty much locked into Apples ecosystem and for me Apple One is a no-brainer.
Apple TV+ has high bitrate, yes, higher than almost everything else. They remove a lot of grain/noise, which helps it compress better, and it's not much of an issue as their original content is shot with that in mind. On things like CODA you can tell it's a lot worse than UHD Blu-ray, or even what a different streaming service would have, e.g. Disney+, who have excellent quality, though with lower bitrate.
It's mostly just Netflix that has poor quality these days. Disney+ has equally good stream quality as TV+ IMO. I dare say Netflix do it intentionally to make you want to upgrade to the top tier and get UHD.
I've been on Apple One for about a year and I think I'm getting value from it. I really wish Apple Music had the handoff feature but I don't miss it as much as I thought I would. Overall really good value for TV, iCloud Storage and Music alone. Arcade is a nice bonus!
I've been using Apple One, since Advanced Data Protection got released. Up to that point, all my songs were local, and self hosted. So Music has been great for discovery, and keeping updated with artists I love. I also highly appreciate the value add for higher quality tracks. Apple TV has been useless for me, but my partner seems to be enjoying it. iCloud has been pretty good, with it now being E2EE. I just wish it had better Linux integration. Apple Arcade is something I quite like. I wouldn't pay for these games individually, on my iOS devices, but quite enjoyed BloomsTD6, Snake, Limbo, GRISS, and so on. Fitness is not a value add. News+ is nice, but not on my tier. I'd easily sacrifice TV and Fitness, for News+.
First off great video! Love the comparison and break downs. Apple Music does have a year in review thing. It is also the highest quality audio of any streaming in service (it has atoms 192khz 24bit streaming). The only things Apple Music doesn’t have going for it is good discoverability and Spotify connect, but at the same time i kinda like being able to have a car song and a home song and it usually leaves off where i left off (or i gotta skip to the next song). But with Apple Music alone being cheaper and better quality it’s a no brainer especially, since spotify can be had for free and you can discover new stuff there and pay for Apple Music for higher quality. “It’s a great value but not for me” - how i feel about most of the apple services. I use Apple Music and Apple TV (which someone shares with me), apple one could be good to split among ‘family members.’
One thing I will say is that seperate streaming services provide modularity, I'm subbed to pretty much everything over the course of a year but never all at once
This is the way, Disney Plus for example doesn’t have that much that I like to watch, so my family gets a one month subscription every here and then if there is a new Star Wars series out or so, then we watch it and cancel the subscription right away.
I use the family plan mostly so my parents have access to Apple Music. There's also some pretty good sci-fi on Apple tv+ like Foundation, Silo and For All Mankind, so worth it to me.
Yeah, Apple TV is the only one I use regularly. I don’t feel like resetting up my Spotify playlists in Apple Music…. Only other thing is iCloud storage.
What I like most about Apple TV is that it seems to be the same catalog in my country as in the US whereas Netflix has an immensely nerfed catalog here.
I used the fitness+ while I had the 3 month trial and it was pretty good, but it was also mid-pandemic so it made _sense_ then. Also I’ve been on and off Apple Music for years, basically using it whenever I get a free trial or months with a new device and then some months paid, it’s my favorite music streaming platform but honestly it is so much more expensive than TH-cam Music (the other platform I’ve used) that I can’t always justify paying for Apple’s on top, as I pay for YT Premium already. I’ve had a million News+ and Arcade trials and never used them, I just can’t care about them. If there was a Apple One plan with TV, Music and Fitness with a reasonable amount of iCloud, I would pay that in a heartbeat…
Loved this episode and a longer one is always good, hopefully with a new team member we might see content a little more often as I really enjoy this part of the Linus empire.
Apple fitness+ and Apple Music were the things that drew me into Apple one. The fitness+ cycle workouts are awesome and I highly recommend them to anyone who wants to do cardio but hates to run
5:00 This is what every audiophile, or enthusiasts of many things, needs to be regularly reminded of: most people will compromise quality for convenience.
I do subscribe to Apple One. As a CPA, having the news articles in front of me saves a ton of time! Plus, I’m an audiophile, so having lose less quality is amazing. We are on the family plan and my mom takes TONS of photos. So, 35$ is worth it. Also, they didn’t watch Ted Lasso, sad
For me it’s actually a pretty good plan. I went in for Apple Music and iCloud, plus I don’t binge shows on a regular basis and Apple TV+ have decent library of shows that I can watch on a weekly basis rather than everything at one night
@@harishsekar378 if you already have Apple One, TV+ is quite a good bonus to have. Ted Lasso, Severance, For All Mankind are actually pretty good shows. The weekly release schedule actually make me more invested in shows rather than binging over a weekend and then forgot about what I’ve watched.
I agree; it felt weird to say! For clarity, I only believe spatial is better if you're using an actual, multi-speaker surround sound setup. I think it's generally a worse experience than stereo mixes when using headphones and non-surround speakers (ie. HomePods). - S.
@Mac Address ohhhh gotcha, yeah that makes sense that it would be great with a surround setup. I've only tried with headphones and had the same experience
I do like Apple Arcade there's some great little gems in there, its a great example of how good mobile gaming could've been without all the micro transactions.
I bought iPad 9 64GB. I planned to use it as entertainment and digital note taking. Boy... I decided to buy a good router, plug in USB in there and make it as NAS. I can proudly say that after 2+ years, the free storage is barely changed. I love the idea of paying subscription to get legal contents. But when everything is subscription and total subs is almost 10% of your earnings. It gets hard to accept. Subscription model only works in wealthy country.
I live in a poor country and subs are cheaper here. Netflix for 10$ game pass for 2.5$ spotify for 2$ disney plus for 6$ google one for 1.5$ youtube premium for 5$ then just split it with friends or family.
@@Systox25 Well.. that's the point, they won't subscribe and simply pirate the contents. The purpose of subscribing will be useless when you need to subscribe for everything. Netflix was popular because it had a lot of movies. Now they geolock and do not have movie from lionsgate, disney, or WB the value is down but they increase the price
I pay for Apple One, and that’s because I use Apple Music, 2TB iCloud, and TV+. Sharing it with my wife basically gets me to the Premiere One pricing if I were to pay separately, and then we get the added benefit of Fitness+. That makes the One subscription a no-brainer for me.
I think this hits the nail on the head. For me Apple One is Apple TV+, iCloud storage, and family sharing plus a bunch of other features I occasionally use (music/arcade), and a few I won’t pay for (fitness/news). Recurring shows is where Apple TV+ absolutely hits the mark for me, off the top of my head: Shrinking, Severance, Foundation (Lee Pace’s parts being the standout), Shrink Next Door, Ted Lasso, and quite a few others are absolutely worth peoples time. Movies not so much, albeit Still (Michael J Fox documentary) was so so good/gut wrenching, and Tetris was a fun romp so it’s at least on the right trajectory for now. So yeah, it’s really all about Apple TV+ really, if you like that, then there’s just about enough value in the periphery to make it worthwhile if you can get others on a family plan. If not, just get Apple TV+ once a year, or for free when you inevitably upgrade that random Apple device.
@@vincentvega3093 Severance I believe is filming currently, Foundation is coming back in July, Shrinking was renewed and Shrink Next Door was a mini series which told a complete story. So your comment is technically correct, but only at this moment in time. I certainly don’t get the impending dread of watching a first season as I do on Netflix…
This is a great way of hosting a discussion type of video and I think Steven did a great job! He's very articulate and knows how to bring the pro's and con's forward in a way that makes sense to those that don't use this service. I don't own any Apple devices or services, but I keep watching this channel for both the educational and entertainment purpose.
I think Apple TV + is underrated these days. They consistently put great productions in a decent amount of time, and now the library is brilliant. They don't have too much content, but you'll notice you prefer the quality over the quantity in the long run.
I’m with Steven on Spotify connect being such a simple feature that seems it seems almost like a step back for any other competitor to not include something like this. Funny thing is that Spotify figured this out on a software level, which you just need to sign in on, while Apple relies on the AirPlay model, which only works on devices within your immediate network (and is still limited on its reach of devices.)
Boils down to price. Do note that depending on country, prices vary. For example, in my country, Apple One family cost around 9 USD. And, funny enough, buying movies using Apple TV+ is cheaper than buying it from services such as google. Heck, they arranged things where they actually have tier movies, one tier costing you less than 3USD per movie. Buying from google for android users are much more expensive. D&D came out costing around 20 USD on google play while only costing around 12 on Apple TV+. So, do your research. For me, the cheap pricing on buying movies have stopped me pretty much from subscribing to streaming services.
I have one subscription and that is for TH-cam Premium, the no ads is really nice, but what I really like is being able to jump back into whatever video I am watching on any of my devices, I would say I'd had it for about 6 months now and enjoyed my free trial and I did cancel it but my niece uses it to watch all her children's shows like PJ Mask and Bluey and the like so it is a lot easier for her not having to tap the screen for an ad on any devices we use. I sign in on my account and I can watch whatever I was watching where I left off and then my niece gets all her shows. I hate that it's over 10 bucks but since it's my only subscription it could be worst. I don't watch Netflix or any of the streaming services, I only listen to music when I work out and I have albums I bought a long time ago on my phone, etc I hate subscription models but TH-cam is the only one I pay for because I watch a lot on my phone and having to get multiple ads multiple times on my phone is the most annoying thing ever when trying to watch a longer TH-cam video so that was worth it.
In the same boat with TH-cam Premium, primarily so that I can somewhat support the creators and of course no ads As someone who is very willing to engage in piracy, steam and TH-cam premium are the only entertainment I pay for because of the reasonable pricing
Finally a video that gives Spotify Connect some recognition. One of the most underrated features that people aren’t even aware they have until they don’t have it. I have a trial for Apple Music simultaneously and lacking the ability to control playback from a different device without switching to it is frustrating
I have Apple One Premier and LOVE it! I share it with 3 other people and we split the cost, we get everything we all want in "our own way", we subscribe to other things such as Netflix, Disney+ etc., we're deeply entrenched into the Apple ecosystem and we see it as added extras, especially for the 2TB iCloud storage, we're not huge gamers but Apple Arcade gives us more than we'd ever want, though I'd really like a dedicated app for Apple Fitness on the Mac and/or smart TVs as opposed to streaming it via my phone. Great review.
@@KHudso Everyone always gets a gift card and adds it to their own ID, if something is a bit more expensive, they let me know and transfer me the money before purchasing. Never had a problem.
Definitely a family-by-family case for Apple One. We're always going to have a cloud storage service and music service for the family, I'm straight up not willing to give up Apple News. So, for us, we're already there.
I don't really understand the 50Gb part. Where do you do your photos backups and sharing? If you use another cloud storage service, why is it not included?
I’ve had every music service to see what works best for me. Apple CarPlay and Lossless audio was what pushed it above Spotify for me. As far as I’m concerned I see Spotify connect as the same thing in my setup as airplay. But that may not be the same for you.
I got an Apple TV4k and we use it as much as a gaming console for a young family. So I looked at one; we don't use enough either. We only use TV+, Arcade and 50g cloud.
Because he is a fair judge. Just with different values to you or me. A nice breathe of fresh air to hear from someone that likes Apple, unlike myself, a person that despises them.
I am on a family plan with 4 users, and it makes absolutely all the sense in the world. Everybody listens to music (none of us ever used or wanted Spotify somehow), everybody watches TV+, and some even use the Arcade. The only thing I miss is News+, but then it'd only be me who uses it, and I don't think the price difference is worth it at all. If I could swap Arcade for News+ though, I would do it in a heartbeat.
The nice thing with Apple One with family is that even you don’t use one or two services, maybe your parents/siblings do ! And the price is may more interesting.
The only subscriptions I have are iCloud 2tb and TH-cam Premium. Both of which u split with 5 other people. The rest of Apple One doesn’t really appeal to me but I def believe the package is a deal if ur someone who uses a few of apples subscription services
Fitness+ is the best thing that happened to me hands down, not because it's so rich in its content or would achieve any sort of serious goals, but because it helped kick start my fitness journey in such an easy, mellow way and built a habit for me; and even though I don't use it as much, it's still nice to use it once in a while for workouts that I don't normally do on my own, like yoga or kickboxing. I finally bit the bullet on Apple One because I realized that I was paying for a lot of Apple services separately anyway, so why the heck not. I was paying for 2TB of iCloud anyway (1TB of photos and videos alone,) and splitting it with 3 other people makes the whole thing about the same price as Apple Music alone.
I'm glad Fitness+ worked for you, but is there any worth in it as a subscription? If you're not planning on working out then you wouldn't subscribe, and if you are working out then it's useless to you. It's only good when you're starting out, and in that case you'd only need to subscribe for a couple of months, and even then there are free alternatives on youtube. I'm afraid that it's good only for the Apple One 2TB subscribers who already have it included.
@@leonro so the story was that I got a new Apple Watch so I got three months for free so I thought why not? Then as it reeled me in, I thought I should keep paying for it. Then I looked at my bill, and with TV+, AM, iCloud 2TB, and fitness+ it’s well over $32 or whatever, so I just thought it’s worth it as a whole package. As I standalone subscription it’s not a must have, but it’s not half bad.
Can't justify spending out the extra money for services I wouldn't be using but being able to share it with up to 5 different people is the real benefit here, if you have someone who can fill in those voids of services you don't like/use then it's more compelling.
did you just compare gamepass to apple arcade? Battlefied 2042 and halo, to some mobile games? Also, game pass starts at 15 us, 10 us is gold which is different.
The tricky part is music, at $10-$12 a mo if you are able to switch off another service it's similar in price. Add a 200gb plan and you're nearly at the cost of the base plan, and TV is then bundled (and arcade, I guess). But, this was more appealing before the prices jumped. iCloud storage options also stack so you could theoretically have 200gb (one) + 200gb (add on) -> 400gb, which is weird but might help if you use cloud services a lot. Dropbox can be up to $10-$20 a month, but iCloud does not really seem to compete above the base tier.
The biggest problem, is the lock-downing of things, and not enough choices. You need an iphone/macbook to even consider Icloud, appletv and all those other things. While the G-cloud, netflix works on all types of devices,
Anyone have an explanation why the 2TB Premier Apple One plan isn't available outside of the US (at least in Sweden the top tier is family woth just 200GB). 🤔
Thanks, great question! Would have been cool, if you have included a section on "word on the street/net" about this service is... Or did you included that hidden in your dialogue already?
I am running with just the iCloud+ subscription, because it is really handy to have all my photos syncing with all devices. And that's that. Cancelled Apple Music and started using Spotify, which is way more flexible (casting to Google chrome, going to friends homes and being able to share playlists with smart TVs etc). For some reason Apple is not getting it when it comes to those services.
I got AppleTV+ with getting my first iPad just before the Covid-19 lockdown, but I have had Apple TV since 2009, and with it I bought various movies, shows and albums. That is still my streaming box, although an up-to-date edition. In the early editions, you downloaded what you bought from iTunes to listen to or watch, but from Apple TV 2, it became something to be streamed, requiring Apple Music to get that when you wanted to see or hear it, unless it was downloaded to a Mac or a PC with iTunes running on the network. People who don’t buy or rent shows from Apple don’t tend to have that concern, but it brings an added consideration, especially for those with Apple TV boxes, or the Apple TV app on other platforms.
I have the highest one. For me its the 2 tb plus 2 subscriptions of Apple music and apple tv. I have used News plus a lot when I was researching a new car or product I was going to buy. Quick question what do you guys use for photo back up because thats whats taking most of my storage. Something that I can access on my phones and tablets
I ditched Apple News a week after it originally came out because of the disconnect talked about here. There's no reason Apple can't let you open an article in the app. They should have no problem figuring that out. Also I think Steven has a great personality and energy on camera!
My partner and I share Apple One. I almost exclusively use it for music and iCloud. Compared to the standalone subscription for iCloud + tidal for lossless + Spotify for everything tidal is missing is more than covered underneath Apple Music for me. I may upgrade my plan to get news, which would get me access to periodicals like Wired or Car and Driver I don’t read from a newsstand anymore. My big gripe is ADULT family members must use the primary account holders payment for all transactions. My partner and I do not share a bank account. It’s an archaic concept that a single individual in a family retains all control of finances.
0:44 Actually Apple Music Replay has been a thing for a bunch of years now… and it’s pretty good. It even lets you check your listening stats throughout the year starting in about may and you get the final year end at… well the end of the year.
Wait, how did neither of them mention photos for their iCloud storage? Are they not using iCloud photos? I'd love to know what they're using to sync photos between their devices
Legit question: How does iMessage take up so much space? Do you guys send/receive lots of photos and video? Kinda blew me away when what I think of a more text backup could take up many GBs of space
I have Apple One and generally enjoy it. But I'll admit I don't use all of the features. Apple TV, Apple Music, iCloud, and News+ are my main reasons for having it. However, I will also say News+ has a MAJOR issue with ads. They're everywhere and endless, and as someone that uses "speak screen" to read articles a lot of the time, it's VERY frustrating when speak screen fails at every single ad. Or fails outright because of the formatting and reverts to the top if you try to start it after hitting the first ad. Or debaitably worse, it goes into a mile long screed when it hits an ad because of the way it's formatted, dumping out mile long URL's or a full paragraph of gibberish. It sucks because I love the service, but the rampant ads make it hot garbage. We PAY for this, ads shouldn't be there in the first place.
Ya this comment is 9 months old, but I'll still answer. Spotify Connect is so nice. I can start listening to music on my Xbox/Roku TVs/MacBook/iPad/Pixel 6a and use the Mac/iPad/Pixel 6a to control them, and say I start listening on the MacBook and then want to continue listening on my phone, I just tell Spotify which device I want to listen to and bam, said music is playing on my phone right where it left off on the Mac seamlessly. Bigger Pro is to that it works on a software level, so even if your not deep into Apples ecosystem you still get full cross-device compatibility. All you need is to have an Internet connection and have the same Spotify account logged in on said devices. I do think Apple Music is intriguing, but idk if I'd be able to switch because of Spotify Connect.
Thank you for bringing up the Spotify Connect thing... I think the weirdest thing is that Spotify Connect FEELS like an Apple feature. It feels like Apple's continuity and handoff features. So I'm shocked that Apple haven't integrated it, at least on their own devices. I know you can technically AirPlay Apple Music, but that's such a clunky experience.
Couple things. Apple music with lossless/spatial/atmos mixes has brought music back to my home theater. The quality is really good on a good system. Yeah, the "apple fitness, but no apple music integration" is weird. I just recently got a Tonal smart-gym and they have the ability to connect with your apple music so you can use it in your workouts, so it can be done. That said, the trainers they have on there are pretty good and I would say a cut above what you might find in other places. The Tonal trainers are pretty good too, but I think the AppleFitness ones might be a bit better. I also like that they gear your workouts to use as little specialty equipment as possible. I do agree that if you have a gym membership already and prefer a gym for the environment and equipment you should not get AppleFitness, but if you have Apple one for the other features I think it could be a good backup if you are traveling or something.
interesting to see the indivdual price of the services differs by country. The fee for AppleTV+ here is the same as the Apple One plan, and that is the most expensive service in the package. It's nearly double the Apple Music fee, inverse to the services fee in USA. ATM it's a no for me since contents in AppleTV+ are still limited for what it's charging
Love Apple One for the family plan. We split it 4 ways so it ends up costing like 8 bucks for all apple services. I use iCloud, Music, TV and arcade so that’s decent savings right there. Good value for some people, not for others :)
The premier makes sense for a family. My parents are on my plan and use the music. My wife uses music, fitness and arcade. My kids use arcade on the Apple TV. I use fitness, news, TV+ and arcade and the 2TB of storage keeps us from all have to pay $1 for individual storage. I certainly wouldn’t do it if I was alone, but combined we use all the services.
17:31 The only question I have is. Who the hell was that running & why? I'm curious like that sometimes. It's the main reason the only SM I use is YT 😆
I currently have the top tier family membership for the Apple One. For the simple reason that subscriptions to multiple single products makes sence to opt for the full family package. Previously I had the single 2TB cloud subscription backing up all my portable devices (phone ipad etc) and my Mac. It also allows lots of sharing options. As a family we are alos heavy users of Apple Music and Apple TV. My son also utilizes the Arcade most days, and it saves him asking for $5 apps on a weekly basis. As we had news + bundled in I have been using it a lot more. Custimizing my feeds to only see the news I want has helped and I have been able to delete multiple apps (some including adverts) that delivered content. One that I don't use and am not interested in is the Fitness +. I do cylce a lot and use the Apple watch for fitness tracking. But I am not one for smashing myself on a spin class. I have a zwift subscription for winter training and it offers much better cusomised training plans for my needs. Overall I like Apple One, but I wish there was a way to bundle certian products and get a discount (e.g Music, Cloud and Arcade for $20)
I know why they don't , but they should allow you to choose your items and give you a deal based on that, I have music tv and icloud, but cannot get one because I use 2TB iCloud, its never something I can consider
Between apple music family and 200gb of icloud+ sharing I'm already paying $20 out of the $23 that apple one would cost me. So for $3 more I could get apple tv+, and Apple Arcade. Despite that I've never bothered to update to apple one because I just don't see myself using either of those two things. I'll guess I'll see if this video changes my mind
In india, apple one family subscription (apple music/classical,TV,arcade and 200gb iCloud)is criminally cheap considering 5 people can use it, its only 4.30$ (365 inr) per month
I've used both Apple Music and Spotify at the same time for a long time , Apple has a looong way to go with their music service. Yes Spotify connect is incredible, but also their algorithm and recommendations and playlists are on a whole different level. The only thing they have going at the moment is their audio quality which in all honesty doesn't matter to 90% of the subscribers. Forgot to add : with Spotify being also usable for free , it's much easier to send playlists to friends and non subscribers there as Apple needs a subscription to access the service.
I’ve subscribed to AppleOne for almost a year now. Mainly because my parents take a lot of photos, so in order to save the hassle of setting different accounts and settings and troubleshooting for both of them… I went the easy way. I don’t have to worry about storage. Also, I’m into classical music… the app has been AMAZING, nothing can compare. Love it’s included and it felt like a gift since it’s recently added. Cons. No fitness plus in my region. My mom would love it.
The interesting thing I've found about Apple TV+ is that the quantity is pretty low but I find the *quality* is pretty damn high, there's some really interesting and creative stuff on there.
Premiere split into 6 people is the way to go. I mainly use Apple Music, and the split cost already covers the value. Everything else is just a nice extra.

I seriously cannot understand how Apple, the company who coined "hand-off" as a feature of their walled garden, hasnt allowed Apple Music hand-off functionality that matches, or at least somewhat rivals spotify. It is absolutely baffling.
but you can… when you press the button of airplay in Apple Music, you have another button that says controll other tvs and speakers
These guys barely know how to use Apple devices.

100%! with a couple of teenagers in tow Apple One is really good value
True, but that assumes you’re buying your kids expensive and potentially dangerous Apple products.
Yup, I split premier with 4 of my family members. It’s
Love this setup! The bright colours, the greenery, and the sun is beautiful! Hope to see this set more! It is genuinely amazing!
Just Like Apple 😂 Headquarters
My favorite new channel
It kind of makes sense in that Mac people seem to be more aware of aesthetics, and not just pure practicality. I mean that in the best way possible.
@@LeftJoystick oh shoot I forgot to mention For All Mankind! That’s my favorite one on the service too! I’m so hyped for S4!

ted lasso was ass s1 was good but it got old quick
amazon prime is up there too. id say theyre the 2 top rivals in terms of show quality
Oh the irony
android user here too, apple music is excellent, Spotify is nowhere near.
it is 100% a roll-over from legacy iTunes that they are just too-deep-in-technical-debt to remove outright.
It floors me apple never just made an “extended battery life” model before the ultra, because it would be their top selling model every single year hands down.
apple watch makes me gay
I would probably go with Apple music if I didn't own TH-cam Premium which includes TH-cam Music
It only worth in India perhaps, in different regions the price is 2 times higher at least
@@s.i.m.c.a but people living in other region also earn 2-3x still cheap out.
@@s.i.m.c.a Yeah, different places different rates
That still translates to 60$ a year in india. Where Amazon prime only costs like 18$ in india. So I wouldn't call it value for money. Good deal but not cheap
@@confused.cat. For starters, Apple One can be shared between five people (family group). That makes it 12 USD per person in theory. Amazon Prime offers one day delivery, and an excellent video library, but the music is pretty meh, and it doesn't offer the storage or gaming library access. If you have an Apple device, those work fantastic. Different use cases, essentially. And 60+18 USD is still a manageable number at a yearly level

Ted Lasso is probably the most pathetic comedy show ever made
@@romangiertych5198ok but they’re still bangers
It's mostly just Netflix that has poor quality these days. Disney+ has equally good stream quality as TV+ IMO. I dare say Netflix do it intentionally to make you want to upgrade to the top tier and get UHD.
I've been on Apple One for about a year and I think I'm getting value from it. I really wish Apple Music had the handoff feature but I don't miss it as much as I thought I would. Overall really good value for TV, iCloud Storage and Music alone. Arcade is a nice bonus!
I think Apple Music is the key here, for me Apple Music + Apple TV+ + large iCloud storage for family make Apple One worth it.
Yeah, for our family it's a no brainer too. We all use iCloud, they like the music, I like the News app, done deal.
Yup, same boat!
Ted lasso !
Severence is really good too
Yeah, Apple TV is the only one I use regularly. I don’t feel like resetting up my Spotify playlists in Apple Music…. Only other thing is iCloud storage.
@@ryanhamstra49 Audio quality is night and day better on Apple Music too when you get to the Atmos lossless stuff.
@@kieran9882 I haven't watched that yet but keep hearing good things about it. I'll add it to the list!

So far from your list only ted lasso had more than one season.

2:15 Classical? I don’t see that anywhere…

I have Apple One Premier and LOVE it! As long as the devices are on the same network, this lets you control media remotely, among other things.
Absolutely fantastic work on the video. Be proud of yourself and the team did an awesome job!!!
As much as Jonathan seems to love Apple products, he seems to love dunking on their services.
And that makes him a good journo.
14:44 dude same, my Huawei Band would detect me walking for a while and go "Hey, it's this an exercise?" and I'll go "Well of course"
I dont even use apple, but i just love the content.
same bro 💀
Ayo careful, these vids will have you spending 1,200 for a phone without a file system or working auto correct
@@orion10x10 True, these guys made me buy an iPad Air earlier this year. 😅
same.
15:37 what is on that home button??
Can't justify spending out the extra money for services I wouldn't be using but being able to share it with up to 5 different people is the real benefit here, if you have someone who can fill in those voids of services you don't like/use then it's more compelling.
2:11 i read somewhere the classic service's use of metadata is very good
the amount of copium people face when wanting something a single company does not offer is amazing.
0:58 Why is the Linus Tech Tips logo on his chair?!
did you just compare gamepass to apple arcade?
I assume it has something to do with the location and capacity of it's Data Centers.
00:01 TL:DR. No it is not lol.
19:11 still no it would seem. 🤔
Thanks, great question!
Would have been cool, if you have included a section on "word on the street/net" about this service is...
Or did you included that hidden in your dialogue already?
just Spotify alone stopped me from Apple One. Spotify curation of music and playlist is far superior.
Yeah! Spotify has whooper by Burger King
Apple has a Spotify Connect like service in the iTunes remote app.
People who don’t buy or rent shows from Apple don’t tend to have that concern, but it brings an added consideration, especially for those with Apple TV boxes, or the Apple TV app on other platforms.
why does the secretlabs chair headrest have the packaging still??????
I liked this interview format quite a bit, and I appreciated that Steven is comfortable enough to ask Jonathan questions as well
Did you end up switching from your 12 mini after all?
theres a little white spot on the "M" in mac adress logo, rigth above where deep purple changes to blueish, LMG please fix.
I don't know how how can get away with 50GB for iCloud+. What do you do about photos and videos? hard backups?
Since I'm not as familiar with Spotify Connect. How is it different than using Airplay to stream to an AppleTV or a HomePod?
I truly appreciate how the Mac Address team are passionate about apple products, but can still be critical and acknowledge their bias.
There are roumors of *M1* Apple TV is in tests & will be releasing in late 2024. What do you say ?
I say yes, but with better games !
I hate that there are ads in News+ when I pay for AppleOne Premier already.
I am getting a feeling tat MacAddress is becoming the best LMG channel. Cant miss any video these are so so good
The interesting thing I've found about Apple TV+ is that the quantity is pretty low but I find the *quality* is pretty damn high, there's some really interesting and creative stuff on there.
Netflix is the opposite these days. So many originals but many are just bad or boring. Really enjoyed almost every show I’ve watched on ATV+
Premiere split into 6 people is the way to go. I mainly use Apple Music, and the split cost already covers the value. Everything else is just a nice extra.
I used the Elecom Huge, because I wanted a finger trackpad. The thing works great on Mac, with SteerMouse software to map the many function buttons.
