2024 Dodge Charger Up Close: Is This the Coolest American EV Yet?

  • Oh boy. So, if you thought that Dodge ending production of the iconic Hemi V-8 engine and announcing it was going electric for the next-generation Charger was the final nail in the coffin of red-blooded American muscle car enthusiasts everywhere, you could not have been more wrong. We’ve just had a look at the production versions of the 2024 Dodge Charger coupe and sedan (yep, the Charger is a coupe again!), and we’ve come away mightily impressed.
    The numbers are fantastic. Up to 670 horsepower. Zero-to-60 mph in 3.3 seconds. A 100.5-kilowatt-hour battery pack that’ll fast-charge from 20%-80% in 28 minutes. A curb weight of 5,800 pounds … OK, those last two numbers aren’t stellar. But wait, there’s more: If you don’t want an electric Charger, wait until 2025, when the Hurricane twin-turbo inline-six-cylinder gas engine gets dropped under that shapely retro-styled hood. The standard-output Hurricane will make 420 hp; the high-output version will do 550 hp.
    That performance is wrapped up in swoopy new styling that uses the same body regardless of whether you pick a coupe or sedan. All Chargers are now hatchbacks, too, so cargo room is huge. The interior is also completely new and, like the rest of the car, looks a lot like the 2022 Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept (which Dodge executives now admit wasn’t actually a “concept” at all). And yes, the Fratzonic chambered exhaust from the concept made it to production, but we haven’t heard it yet; that’s still coming.
    Cars.com Detroit Bureau Chief Aaron Bragman got a first look at the new 2024 Charger and came away impressed. Here, he takes you through the all-new electric coupe and sedan (while the Sixpack gas models come in early 2025, the Daytona electric coupes arrive for the summer of ‘24), so get ready for a wild ride - the American muscle car brand isn’t dying, it’s just changing with the times.

    Between the 6-pack, the Daytona, the coup and sedan, and let’s not forget the upcoming banshee, this thing will sell in big numbers. Expect a plain jane base sedan with less acceleration but greater range in a few years, once they ramp up production and can offer NA sourced batteries to qualify for federal rebates.

    • @madkabal
      @madkabal 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No where to charge them in most places in the USA. It's takes 2 1/2 hrs to charge the battery from full "e" to full. Has top speed of 130, mini van speed. The "performance" is coded out, no tuning options less you can hack it with will of course destroy your warranty and most likely the car will have a failsafe and produce on error code that the IT will be told to tell you to take a hike if he sees it. They even admited that these cars are not efficient. "Range anxiety" is already an issue with EVs and us the main reason why people don't buy them, or trade theres in for a gasser and they expect to convince people to buy these inefficient slow cars? The car will kill Dodge.

      1. Nowhere to charge-perhaps if you live in a rural area, like me. Good thing they have the gas Charger six pack with more horsepower than any previous model this side of the helcat.
      2. If you need a higher top speed the Scatpack isn’t for you. You need the Banshee which will be released after the sedan hits the market.
      3. No tuning options without voiding your warranty? Yeah, like the Hellcat v8, boy what a loser that was! OTOH, you can install factory approved Stage kits to bump the power-without voiding the warranty. WOW!
      4.these cars are not efficient-well no shit have you seen the size of these tires? If you want efficient you might be in the market for a Prius brother.
      5. “Range anxiety”. Again, there are gasoline Chargers available for these folk.
      6. All you have proved is that you don’t know shit about this new car.

      People don’t want to rent an EV, much less do they want to own one.
