East Tennessee man gets his world record fish

- Lionel "Jam" Ferguson caught a world record crappie fish in May of 2018. After it was determined to be a world record catch at 5 lbs., 7 oz., he had it mounted by Fye Taxidermy who presented it to Jam today. Dec. 14, 2018-4pm

CONGRATULATIONS on your biggest crappie, my aunt caught one and it weighs about 5-6 pounds and she mounted it and now it's on her wall still today and she caught it about 6-7 years ago
If it weighed 5-6lbs it’d be a WORLD RECORD, no way it weighs that, she probably caught a 3lber which is a HUGE crappie

This dude in the videos crappie is 5 pounds 7 ounces which is the world record there is no way Its that big.
I caught two giant crappies out of the Potomac River in 1982, 1 was 22 inches and 1 was 18 inches. I photographed with a yardstick and weighed at the post office, but the record was not honoured. Congratulations, Jam

What’s great story! He seems to be a genuinely nice guy and probably doesn’t really care if the record sticks or not. Really nice mount by the taxidermist. Super nice job. Great job guys!!!
That fish is a miracle of nature. It's kinda ashame to see it die after all it's been through to get that big but I can't argue with mounting it because it's a once in a lifetime catch.
Who knows, the fish could have died the next week naturally to health issues. It is not going to live forever.
His genetics are still in the water.
People don't kill fish to mount them anymore, you just get the measurements/photos and send them to the taxidermist. Fish goes back into the water and a resin sculpture is made
caught one 19 1/2 in long in a small 14 acre lake in Kentucky... using a white 1/4 oz roostertail spinner with a minnow..let is sink about 15 feet then reeled it just fast enough to get the spinner going..thought i hook a big bass...turn out to be monster crappie..then caught a second one on the next cast just slightly smaller at 18 in..never weigh them..tasted good though!

I remember when Bob Rochetta caught the world record Striper(cow)... It broke the Mass Record set back in the early 70's. It was 75lbs and was 54"... this was back in 83 or 84. That record was broke the same year with a striper that was about 78Lbs and caught off the Atlantic City surf in New Jersey. I think though the Rochetta record is still the biggest in the state of New York still. Not sure, but I heard something about the Striper record was broke yet again. My congrats to this Angler. It is always something special to witness a world record breaker.

Nice catch! I caught a Crappie that was 19in not sure of the weight because I didn't have a scale at the time but I guessed around 3 1/2 pounds. Also in TN.
I caught 4 lb. 4 oz. crappie in Georgia in the late 70's . I was jigging a yellow beetle spin up and down off the railroad tressle around sundown. Never did think to check and see about it being any kind of a record back then.

Back in the 80s, in Shelby County TN, (secret!) I landed a crappie that measured 23 5/8 inches long and was 15 inches from bottom of back fin to bottom of belly.
Fish was not weighed, but estimated at well over 6lbs.
FISH WAS RELEASED!
4 witnessed catch and release, one was lake owner and the lake is less than half a mile from my home.

Crappie fishing below Ft. Loudon dam, my co-angler had his 6lb test line broken by the biggest smallmouth I've ever seen... and I've landed some of those brownies over 5lb closer to 6lb. Never seen a smallie like that one ever and prob never will again.

I caught a posssible world recor drum at a power plant in TN. I let it go and didn't even get a picture. I was just thinking it was a trash fish. It was over 50 pounds.

My biggest crappy was from the Mississippi in Minnesota and probably over 3.5lbs but large enough to swallow a rattle rapala sized for smallmouth bass.
Dang I live in lousiana the biggest one I ever caught was three pounds I thought that was huge
Don't sell yourself short. A three pound crappie is huge by any standards. This was a fluke of nature.

If you have pictures and some measurements you can still get a replica mount.
I wouldn't had killed it yeah get all the sizes of the Crappie and some pictures and let it go to get bigger but not kill it!?!?! I Got a 12lb 13 Oz bass hanging in my living room but it's a replica and now she lives in my 22 acre pond because where she was located they were gonna level it out for a golf course 😡 so I went back and caught her with my casnet and it's been 2 yrs now and she is fine.... good catch sir!

I had a buddy who had the world record striper on his office wall. Only thing was that it was caught illegally at night in a seine net. I am thinking it was like 68lbs. A freaking monster. hahahaha
I mounted a crappie that weighed 4 lbs 13 Oz crappie for a man in Monroe n.c. Dont know where the fish is today.

The taxidermist should’ve mentioned that you don’t need to keep the fish to make the mount. Just as long as you have a way to measure it. That big boy could’ve been released to maybe set a new record one day.
But then it wouldn't be 'the" fish. Beside a fish that big is near the end of its reproductive usefulness so no harm is done
