Ditch the background music!
mmmkay, I'm re-wiring my racks!!!! Very clean set-up!!!
Thanks man!!
I will borrow the light placement that's pretty cool. You can extend that one at the bottom but you gotta cut wires and stuff.
Yeah, I don't want to get into all of that. :-)
Really helpful, thanks so much!
Glad it was helpful!
Very nice! 🌱🌱🌱🌱🙌🙌
Thank you! 🌱
Would love to see your process of actually building the rack, if you ever need to build another one, please record :)
That day will definitely come! :) I will be sure to record it next time. I figured the racks already come with instructions, so this was the more important piece that not many people share. :)
@@AndyMussaw Well by build I mean everything you do after you set up the rack itself :) Mostly interested how you have such nice cable management haha
@@evanmassimino3416 ah, gotcha! That makes much more sense now! I'll keep that in mind next time I'm assembling one!
Yes, I would like to see the whole installing of lights and wiring set up done as well. @@AndyMussaw
Great video and very useful information. Thank you for providing so much free advice!
No problem! And thank you for the kind words!
Wonderful video! So clean 🤩 Would you mind sharing the total cost of building out one shelf (cart, liner, lights, cable, etc)?
I've honestly never totaled it up! Each grow rack can sell $350 - $500 every week, so we've never really worried about the cost because they pay for themselves. :-) If I had to guess, it's probably between $250 - $350.
Andy, thanks for sharing, simple, and straight forward
Thank you! That was the goal! :-)
I use 1" sheets of foam on my shelves to eliminate the heat hitting the bottom of the trays which are above the lights. Even though the light itself isn't hot the top does give of a lot of heat.
Interesting idea! We haven't found that these lights give off any heat. Especially enough to heat up the trays above them. What kind of lights are you using?
Thanks for all the useful info. One thing to be cautious about: Your background music is too loud. Especially in the intro, that needs to be turned town. Also during the video it sometimes made it harder to understand your speech. So please just keep an eye on it for future videos :D But keep 'em coming.
The funny thing is that in the editing software, it's very quiet, but once it exported, it seems to have gotten louder. Very strange... But I agree with you - it ended up louder than I'd hoped.
Didn't you get those extra power plugs? I use them instead of the zip ties for the lights. Just a fyi. Great video.
We did! The problem with these racks, in particular, is that they don't hold them tightly. I mention that in the video, which is why I have to zip tie them. It's an extra step that I'd rather not have to take, but it's necessary.
Nicely done Andy! So glad my boys and I had a chance to see it in person😊!
Thank you! :)
Lots of good info, hard to hear though 😪
I know. The audio sounded great until I exported it, and then I uploaded it and didn't realize that it had increased the volume of the music in the background. :(
Awesome rack build
Thank you!
I like how you did cords a ton better than how I zip em. Using the horizontal plane under the rack is great! I learn things I was not expecting to learn every time I see your stuff. Thanks! Joe
We used to fold them along the short side of the shelf, and eventually got sick of that setup because they'd sometimes get caught on other racks when we were moving them around. I absolutely love how clean this setup is! And with the electric up high, you don't have to worry about getting any over spray on the surge protector.
Very helpful video. Thank you!
You're welcome!
Great video Andy :-)
Thank you so much!
Thanks for your Help! To further improve the efficiency of the lights, I have removed the protective tube. Although this voids the manufacturer's warranty, the light is slightly brighter.
Makes sense! :-)
Nice video overview of your shelving setup thanks. 😊
You're more than welcome!
Hi, Andy. I'm from Indonesia. Thanks for your upload.
You're very welcome!
Can you share the specific trays you use and source? Are they food grade?
We use 1020 shallow and deep trays from Bootstrap Farmer. We use the deep trays for longer grows (3 weeks or more) and the shallow trays for everything else.

Andy I would love to see a farm tour in the future and I love how nice and clean you built the racks nice job.
Thank you! I posted one awhile ago in my Microgreens group. Just never posted it on TH-cam.

It was a full tour of our store, as well as the farm. I'll have to do an updated one soon.
What lights are you using? A link for them?
Hi there! All of the products we use are linked in the description. :) Here's the link for your convenience: amzn.to/44yIYy4
Thanks for the quick response
@@PhilipKrauss no problem!
Thank you for the great video! And sharing all the supplies you used. Super helpful for a newbie like myself. I wanted to ask how are these lights and the switches holding up? I am very interested in buying these lights!
We've been using these lights for 4 years now. They are on for 14 hours per day, and we've never burned one out. We have replaced maybe 3 or 4 of the switches in that same amount of time. But often times it's because we accidentally rubbed them against something. :)
@@AndyMussaw Thank you very much for the reply. Wow they do really keep going.
Clean
Thanks! It takes more time, obviously, but it's worth it in my opinion!
So educative...thank you very much super presentation
Thank you so much! ❤️🌱
Great video. Nice cable management. I only have one rack currently to grow for my family, and the cables look pretty messy, now I feel encouraged to clean it up, lol. I notice you have your racks lined up to each other. I was wondering how you plug those other racks to the outlet? Thanks in advance.
Thank you! :) We mount a surge protector on the top of each rack (as seen in the video) and then we plug them all into another heavy duty surge protector that plugs all of the racks into the wall.
@@AndyMussaw Do you use 20 amp breakers and outlets? How many racks can you hook up to one breaker? Thanks in advance! :)
Yes, 20amp breakers. With two T5s per shelf, we are able to connect 8 racks together in unison. But we only have room for 6 at the moment. Consult with an electrician for your setup though, as it may differ. :-)
One question? Whats an "inch"???
A unit of measurement we use in the US. :-)
25.4 mm
Can these lights be used for germinating seed and starting garden plants?
Yup!
Keep up the great work Andy
Thanks man!
Proud of my former student!
I greatly appreciate you Mr. Truslow! Thank you for being one of the many people to help shape me into the person that I am today. 💪
Nice! New sub here ❤
Thank you so much! I'll return the favor. :)
much appreciated 👍🏼@@AndyMussaw
Great Content 💰
Thanks!
And that can safely be plugged into what outlet? Seems like powering all those light together in a string is a potential fire hazard. Dunno
One dedicated circuit can support up to 8 of these racks together. :)
Awesome! I placed the lights about 4in from the edge and the crops started to lean towards the inside of the shelf. I use the same lights and spacing. Do you have this issue?
That's interesting because they should be leaning towards your light source, not away from it. We use 24" deep shelves, and our lights are roughly 8" apart, and roughly 8" from the outer edge of the shelves. We see very even growth across the whole tray.
@@AndyMussaw yes, I mean they lean towards the lights, to the inside of the shelf. My racks are 18in wide, I'll look into it. Thank you. Also, what tower fans are you using? It looks neat
@@renata4737if your racks are 18" deep, you'll want your lights to be about 6" apart, to spread them evenly across the shelf.
Here's a link to the tower fans we use :)

@@AndyMussaw thank you!
so how are you getting that many shelves? The most shelves I can find is 6 (so 5 grow shelves) Is there a way to get shelves a la carte?
We get ours (in pieces) through The Restaurant Store. I've linked everything in the video description to what we use.
@@AndyMussaw well don't I feel foolish; you mentioned it in the video AND the show notes. Thanks for the info. I wanted to add one more rack for 2 reasons: 1 well, it's an extra rack, and 2: I have my zip ties hanging down about 3 inches per rack because I felt like 12 inches away was too much.
@@fygmicrogreens haha, no problem at all! :)
