I remember getting this direct from Kenner in the mail either in 1978 or1979, and of course I displayed all my figures on it. Late last year, I found the base in a box in my closet but not the backdrop. The base was in pretty good shape, with only the foot pegs for C-3PO broken off a little bit. The name sticker was still in excellent condition. A few weeks later I went to my parent's house and happened to look on the floor of my old room's closet, and there was the backdrop, sitting on the floor. It has many creases in it but not too bad, and fraying around the edges, but no tears or major folds. Couldn't believe it was still sitting there after 25 years!
That is absolutely stunning!!!! Really, really like this a lot. I have a good condition original but I want a minty replica like this with box and leaflets!
This figure stand was originally a mail-away premium shipped in a plain box. By the time it was packaged for retail sales, Greedo WAS in production and was included in the box art. The retail box is EXTREMELY hard to find and makes this reproduction a lot more interesting. This guy did a fantastic job and coordinated with top-tier people to make it perfect.
Thanks for the awesome review of this. It looks fantastic, I wanted one since I saw my buddy's back when we were kids in the late 70s. The price is very reasonable for an identical new production, compared to the price of an original in like new condition. I just ordered one yesterday. Keep the great videos coming, GQ Jedi!!!
Wow!! That looks amazing..i never got the original, but for sure will be getting one of these to display my original 12..would be nice if they made a custom one for Gi. Joe also..😅
Wow! I'm impressed. This looks fantastic GQ and would make the perfect collection addition if someone didn't have an original or didn't have one in good shape. For a completely custom piece, with the box, the instruction sheet, mini catalog, and unit - the price point isn't bad either to be honest. I know that the backboard was noted as reproduction on the item. And that the box was made glossy which couldn't be mistaken. But was there any markings on the instruction sheet or mini catalog that would reference it as reproduction or help us tell it apart from the originals? The custom community never fails to bring us amazing stuff. It's wild to think also that between the custom market and Hasbro's retro line, collectors could literally put together the first 12 stand with figures, and while it looks the part, none of it would be Kenner. 🤯 As long as we can tell the difference, I'm all for it. And I might just have to pick myself up one of these displays too.
I'm not super familiar with all the original Kenner paper goods on this particular item. Sorry I can't confirm or deny certain things for you. Apologies. The fans truly are making the impossible possible for everyone. It's amazing!
Pretty amazing what people can make today! I'd love to have something like that. The old ones from back in the day are so incredibly expensive that I'm tempted to get one of these instead. Good thing that Replicator Boxes put that on there. It's a good thing that videos like yours are out there. Both to let us know that awesome replicas exist for guys like me who don't mind having replica stuff because we want stuff that looks good but that doesn't cost a fortune and also for people who are trying to avoid replicas. Good video!
I'm very impressed with what fans are able to create these days. Its amazing. This piece in particular is a must have for many collectors who couldn't find an original. I'm happy to share my finds with the community. Always.
Incredible fan product. If there were to be an upgrade, I would like to see some alternate backdrops and name stickers, perhaps scene based from the movie, for instance the Rebel hanger on the Yavin moon since there was no playset for that scene.
So I'm not going to read all of the comments to see if this has already been pointed out: As you know the original stand was a mail away only, but about a year later it was released as a limited retail offering under the "Special" line. I've seen the regular without the mailer box and usually without the instructions sell on ebay for about $225 to $275. I know this because I spent about that much on one after watching them for the better part of last year, and into this year. Although a guy at a toy show last summer refused to budge from his $400 price even though I showed him finished listings on ebay, I got one for a fair price about a month later. I finally found the instructions for under $60 after losing two auctions where they went for over $100 a piece. That being said in my searches I've seen the retail version twice, maybe three times. I can't remember seeing the sold prices, but the asking prices were $5000 and upwards! So I could see getting a repro box just to be a psuedo-completist. However, there are two errors in that repro. 1) The original mail away version is called the "Collector's Action Stand" and the retail version is called "Action Display Stand". This naming is reflected on the instruction sheet, so the instruction sheet you have is a repro of the mail-away not the retail 2) There was not a single strip name sticker included with the retail version, but rather single figure stickers identical to those included in the carry case. So you could for instance put Greedo etc on the stand and put a name sticker under him, and likewise put the figures in any order you liked. I have not seen the single strip stikcker with Greedo;s name at all other than in the box photo. As far as I know the retails all included idividual figure stickers. Though my experience with these is limeted to the 3 or 4 examples I've seen on ebay. If it were me, to make that repro stand more authentic, I'd use actual spare name tags from my many carry cases. You probably have a lot yourself! Thanks for reading my epic to the end, I haven't eft you one in awhile! 😄😉
There he is?! Phew. I feel I'm officially all caught up on the history of this stand. LOL. Thanks, brother!! I'm not too worried about the paperwork, box or stickers. It is what it is. At the end of the day, it's a damn fine custom reproduction.
Well, this awesome stand is out of my budget, but that link for it had the Stan Solo Imperial Dignitary listed next to it from the same seller and that I snatched! Thank you GQJ for leading me to the last figure representation I needed for my Kenner collection! 😁 Now I can take my time tracking down originals of the few Last 17 figs when wallets are fatter. 😁
That's Darren Orme of Replicator Boxes and Inserts who has designed the box, instructions and backing card, he sells those he in the UK. But someone from the US has designed the stand itself and they have collabed. Shame for me as its not available in the UK, they would sell ALOT of those over here.
That's so cool! :) It's funny you get this now, I've been thinking about getting a replacement Star Wars display stand. Sure, would like to have the real thing, but not on my income. :) Quite honestly, I didn't know if anybody made this as a replacement yet. Thanks for the video
Nice repro item. Should look real good with the RETRO COLLECTION first 12 figures - all brand spanking new - just like it was in ‘79. How long do you think it’ll be before we get repro Collector’s Cases? I like the early vinyl ones. Love the artwork.
lol! Funny timing. I bought a stand a while ago and just pulled it out this week and put my figures on it for the first time. It’s an original, but missing the backing (I need to get one). Thanks for the video GQ!
This is a really nice reproduction. A concern about this is that it’s being shipped in a small cardboard box not much bigger than the product which exposes the display stand and the reproduction carton to any sort of external damage. It’s not protected at all.
Super nice ,been nicer to get something like this sooner but I already have an original one, I still need the instruction sheet to complete which a lot scum bag in the SW collecting universe isn’t willing to share. But I will obtain one with persistence
Is there other types of recreations out there of other star wars things as good as this? I am new to this whole thing. I'm going to grab one of these when i can.
My suggestion to you would be to search on your own and join some Star Wars Facebook groups. You will learn a lot. Many questions are answered daily in groups by members.
When we were kids, we threw out packaging (except for our crazy "Austrian" neighbours who always kept the boxes for things..which I always thought at the time was weird)...even though THAT stuff was the stuff that SOLD us on the toys and figures!! Id give anything to be able to go back to old '78 and poke around a store knowing what we know now!..Keep my original TIE Fighter box, or cardbacks. This is why I have NO problem with Repro...or Customs...I UNDERSTAND why folks can be mad about them affecting their legit stuff, and wanting to keep its re-sale value..(which is why I think ALL Repro should be a sightly different colour, or material, or clearly marked)...We LOST SO MUCH back then...cuz we wanted to PLAY....its only NOW we want to COLLECT.... I hope this guy markets these...cuz theres no way you can afford an original THAT cherry!
I was all in until I seen the price! Sorry, but the mark up on this is insane. Should not cost $167! C’mon!? $60 plus shipping. He brings that down to a reasonable asking, I’m in. I could seriously go to two different dealers right now and purchase a vintage in very good condition for $40-$50 more than that GUY is asking. Just being transparent here, phenomenal product, great work, effort, but I’m not paying that for a reproduction.
Oh no, I’m not my friend. This WHOLLY deserves the play you’ve given it. My apologies if it seemed otherwise. I simply believe the creator is over charging for this piece. I could be wrong? But I’ve been in this game for a while with different lines and that’s just too rich for a repro.
Whar does GQ jedi stand for??? Get rid of your crappy intro music and replace with something better. I love all of your videos and you have a fantastic collection.
@billdouglas5431 You can't insult someone and compliment them at the same time. It doesn't work that way. But again, why do you think the music is crappy? Please explain to all of us how this music could be improved upon. In what way(s)??
Personally i dont think the music suits the theme of starwars or a jedi. It reminds me of a blockbuster video ad or a saturday matinee bill collins movie review.but the rest of the stuff you do is fun and at a more A grade level.

That's....an Epic Find!! Awesome!! Amazing that it survived all that time.
The display is amazing and the detail he put into it is amazing. Fans do amazing work.
You hit the nail on the head.
That is absolutely stunning!!!! Really, really like this a lot. I have a good condition original but I want a minty replica like this with box and leaflets!
I totally understand that!
You get all the cool toys, GQ 😎
I'm not going to argue, pal ;)
The only thing glaring out to me is the Greedo on the box.....That figure didn't exist yet when the stand originally came out.
I've seen Greedo on one of the original boxes back in the day.

Thank you for the clear explanation, Brady my man!

Amazing stand. Thank you for showcasing it for us!!! Great video!
My pleasure. Thanks, Mike!! Cheers.
Wow that is very cool, I've only seen one once, and it is cool to see a replica of it, congrats
It’s really well made! Thank you.
Awesome piece! I had the OG as a kid and would totally get this!
Rad!!
I need this!
Wow!! That looks amazing..i never got the original, but for sure will be getting one of these to display my original 12..would be nice if they made a custom one for Gi. Joe also..😅

I remember having this as a kid. Great looking replica.
It's really well done, bud.
Awesome action Display stand GQJEDI.👌
Thanks. It's well made!
That box has the wow factor.....nice
It really does. Well produced.

Great ideas. I'm sure Andrew has plans for future installments if this first run does well for him.

That is bonkers. In a good way.
Precisely.
I’m absolutely getting one of these. This is amazing!
You should!

You are correct. Darren's work is second to none over there at RB.
That's so cool! :)
It's funny you get this now, I've been thinking about getting a replacement Star Wars display stand.
Sure, would like to have the real thing, but not on my income. :)
Quite honestly, I didn't know if anybody made this as a replacement yet.
Thanks for the video
Welp, now you have your less expensive alternative to Kenner. You're welcome :)
Nice! That looks identical to the original.
Sure does. It's incredible?!
Nice repro item. Should look real good with the RETRO COLLECTION first 12 figures - all brand spanking new - just like it was in ‘79.
How long do you think it’ll be before we get repro Collector’s Cases? I like the early vinyl ones. Love the artwork.
Not sure about vinyl cases. But I’m here for it should they arrive.

Timing is everything in life as they say. Have a good weekend, Bud!
Maybe he will make one for TESB & ROTJ!!! How cool would that be?
That would be fantastic!
This is a really nice reproduction.
A concern about this is that it’s being shipped in a small cardboard box not much bigger than the product which exposes the display stand and the reproduction carton to any sort of external damage. It’s not protected at all.
That is a great note and I’m sure the sender/maker will read these comments.
That looks sweeeeet. 👌
It is buddy!
Very cool!
Indeed!
I AGREE… HOLY SH!T!!!
Great minds think alike.
Super nice ,been nicer to get something like this sooner but I already have an original one, I still need the instruction sheet to complete which a lot scum bag in the SW collecting universe isn’t willing to share. But I will obtain one with persistence
Not sure what you mean by scumbags not willing to share but keep hunting. You'll find one.
Very nice.
Great piece.

Is there anyway of getting this in uk
You gotta check out the links I provided in the description. Right at the top. I don't have any further info for you other than those links.
@GQJedi OK thanks.....it goes to etsy but doesn't ship to UK......thank you for your time

Well said, Sir. Well said.
So where can I get one? Is all of this made by the same repro company?
Link in video description.
What’s the best way to sell my action figures? It’s not right that they’ve been in a box for forty years. They need a good home.
Try eBay or the Facebook groups.
I was all in until I seen the price! Sorry, but the mark up on this is insane. Should not cost $167! C’mon!? $60 plus shipping. He brings that down to a reasonable asking, I’m in. Its just a base!
It’s also just plastic. But we dig it.

Not sure what to say as you've trashed my music and complimented my channel in the same breath.
The music is really really crapp!
But your utube channel and videos are very very good that is my opinion . Keep up the great work !
@@billdouglas5431 Aside from your unsolicited opinion, what makes the music crappy?

Greedo was featured on one of the original boxes.
