Thank you for keeping the “mystery celebrity” a mystery. She’s a gem that always represents her city and state well and the local always respect celebrity’s privacy ❤
Glad you enjoyed our city! I run a small tour company here that offers ghost walks and historical tours! I'd love to show you some local history! ❤ -Charleston Ghost Tour Company
ku-Naw-wa The County, River, and State Forest. Randy Moss is from Rand W.V. and news professionals pronounce it incorrectly often. Thank you for your beautiful video!! Showing the beautiful parts of West Virginia!!
Yes, I am coming back. I've gotten some good recommendations from the comments. My dad and I recently toured a coal mine. So interesting...Just driving down the highway in WV is breathtaking.
She does frequent that area. Her parents live there. I grew up in Charleston and loved it. I am 70 now and move away 35 years ago but have some relatives there that I talk to
@@scholarlypursuitz690 If you get a chance go to Beckley exhibition coal mine. Years ago I worked in the coal mines. My wife and I did this and it brought back lots of memories and educational
Pronounced K’naw. I’ve lived here since ‘95. We can always tell when advertisers have hired out of state pr firms by how they pronounce it in their ads.
I enjoyed your Video having grown up a dozen miles from Charleston along the Elk River. I knew who you were talking (JG), her father used to work at the big chemical plant in Nitro, WV. I saw a celebrity in Charleston in '75, I was in the back seat, setting at a red light and heard a commotion with people yelling and chasing after a big white Cadillac that pulled out of an alley. It pulled in directly behind our car, as I looked in to the back seat of that car I realized I was looking at Elvis (he had a concert there that night) and he was looking at me! I was in shock that I didn't even wave. Best Wishes!
One of my favorite stops in South Charleston is the Spring Hill Bakery. You have to try the "Hotdogs". If you are ever lucky to get your hands on their fruit cakes, go buy a lottery ticket. They make them 2 or 3 times a year and sell out fast.
You misprounced Kanawha but everyone does. It's ku, as in cup, naw, just like gnaw, u as in up. It's a native American word with many translations that differ depending on who you believe.
@ I’ve lived here all my life born and raised. I know where the malls are in Charleston. There are no malls in the Charleston area. I know what I’m talking about.
Got to see Elkins and take the scenic train. I camp out there by the waterfall with my dog and used with my GF at the time. But, we hike out there, 12 miles. I got to meet people from all over the world that get off the train, like I did in college. Don't judge WV by Charleston, because, as a West Virginian, I don't really like Charleston. We basically consider it a craphole with a Capitol, or like some say, a Crapitol. Charleston is kinda nasty, industrial looking. It's not a good place. If anything Wheeling, the original Capitol, is better. Huntington and Charleston are the worst parts of WV because they are like the other crappy parts of these United States. Sincerely, A homesick West Virginian who has moved for more money of course. Glad you liked it. Thanks.
Yes!! Great advice go up to Elkins or Cass and take a scenic train ride and have dinner. Elkins is great Charleston I live on the Blvd. This place SUCKS. Your being nice Charleston is not a craphole this place is a full blown shithole. Huntington is Zombieland. Huntington is awesome if you love heroin and crack other than that Huntington is a fucking hellhole just like the rest of Southern West Virginia. Huntington WV the recovery capital of the world.
@@dww63 yes Summerville, and outside of Charleston (east to Gauley Bridge) off Rt.60. West Virginia has some GREAT places to retire to. Kanawha Co. is not one of them. Fayetteville is great and less than 1 hour from CAMC. Braxton Co. around Flatwoods is beautiful up there and all the places I have mentioned have easy access to an interstate and good healthcare. Canaan Valley is AWESOME if you're rich same with Elkins those folks have been up there for generations tons of money and it's staying that way. Elkins is high dollar the feds came in there about 60 years ago put in a federal building and they've eaten the place up ever since. Nobody in Elkins has any money unless the feds know about every penny of it. It's staying like that thanks but no thanks and that's how they want it.
Good to here. Dont have big cities but best place to be if you love the outdoors. White water rafting, I assuming you went down new river. That's the oldest river in the country.
I was born and raised in Charleston... it was once a vibrant city but is now a virtual ghost town with closed store fronts and empty streets.... all the old department stores, which were the commercial core of Charleston are long gone.. the mall, Town Center, is all but closed.. the east end of Charleston, near the State Capitol, which was once the "high rent" district is now being abandoned and the once beautiful old homes are falling apart and the vagrants roam the streets at night making it very unsafe... Charleston is a sad and decaying city like so much of West Virginia... love the clip of Capitol Market.. they missed the abandoned and boarded up houses across the street and the homeless center with people camped out on the street.. Capitol Street was once filled with stores and shoppers.. the video paints a very misleading picture of Charleston.. sad but true
I appreciate your comments. This video represents my experience. It was not meant to be an exhaustive documentary on the city. There were also things that I did not include which I could have. The amazing library which I would love to go back and spend time at, the outdoor concerts/events I heard about that are held along the waterfront. Just saying...
I agree. I live in Cross Lanes which is 20 minutes west of Charleston. Everything you say is true. Charleston is the quietest city I have ever been to. It’s what you would image a city would look and feel like after the zombie apocalypse.
Spot on, 37 year Charleston resident here. Charleston 80% of downtown Charleston has been abandoned everybody is gone they're never coming back this town needs bulldozed down to the ground and turned back into green space instead of burned down crack house's. The East End is absolutely no better than the West Side, I live on the East End this place is a sewer. There's not enough people left here to start a fucking campfire with. There's no one anywhere in your video because they're all gone and never coming back including your local celebrity. Charleston is a ghost town, couldn't tell it by this video could ya😂😂😂!!!
@@scholarlypursuitz690 It is almost comical. You can show people a video of a nice town with good restaurants, nice stores and virtual non-stop concerts and activities and all they can say is "No, no, it's a ghost town. You must have missed all the ugliness!!!!". I think I'll believe my eyes over people who do nothing but tear down others. In the daytime, Charleston is mostly about work. On nights and weekends, even I am impressed with the nice crowd that turns out to have a good time.
"Diverse", "Inclusive", and "Represenation." All words that make me lose all interest in a game when I hear them. It tells me that their social activism is being injected into a game instead of them focusing on storytelling. Just give me characters that don't make their skin color and sexuality their primary personal characteristic.

Thank you for your response. It means so much to me. I also did a video on the Beckley Coal mine. My dad and I really enjoyed our tour.
Thanks for posting this video!!
You're welcome. We made good family memories that weekend.
Hometown I love it there
did you get a chance to see the burial mound across the river in South Charleston?
No. But I am going back to West Virginia later this summer with my parents so I will put that on the list. Thanks for watching!
Looks like an awesome weekend getaway!
I'll be going to the Beckley coal mine tour shortly. I appreciate your work!
Just FYI- Gonzoburger has closed.
Oh no! Sorry to hear that.
Thank you and you represented our city beautifully. Come back anytime Mountain Momma....
Great video. Thanks for making it :)
Glad you liked it!
Our used to boom a lot more shops especially in the Town center Mall and on Capitol Street
Dem Two Brothers and a Grill has fabulous food!!
I can always tell an out-of-towner by the way they pronounce the name of the Kanawha River. It's two syllables, "ka - NAW"!
This is a great video i love it

Charleston doesn’t have a mall anymore. If you want to visit a mall you have to go to Barboursville.
Incorrect.
@ I’ve lived here all my life born and raised. I know where the malls are in Charleston. There are no malls in the Charleston area. I know what I’m talking about.
@ no, you absolutely don’t. The Charleston town center mall is still open. While a lot of stores in it have closed, the mall is still open.
@ sir bye, like I said we don’t even have a mall anymore in the Charleston area nobody considers that a mall anymore
@ yeah they do, it’s a big building with different stores in it where you can shop, it’s still a mall whether you recognize it as one or not.
