On my third X-Pro1 body… hands down one of the best cameras I’ve owned and used. Bought my original years ago, worked it really hard until the shutter eventually failed a few weeks ago. The second body I picked up for £60, moved it on for a profit (wish I didn’t), and now on my third body to replace my failed original. Files are a joy to edit, ISO performance is excellent and form factor is so comfortable. The OVF really comes into its own when you use the 18mm f2 in manual focus mode, zone focus and hit the streets. As a crowd capture camera with remote flash trigger at gigs, zone focused, nothing beats it. 16mp is more than enough for most needs as well.
I can imagine with zone focus the AF issues with the OVF wouldn’t be an issue, will need to try that out! Also 60 gbp for a body is an insane deal, where are all these people finding such cheap X-Pro1’s!! I thought I did alright with my bargain hahaha
You should absolutely get your other bodies repaired. Mine was sold with a completely dead shutter, the repair technician replaced the shutter motor and it seems to be doing fine, if it fails again I'll absolutely get it repaired again. It is also a serial number 21-, meaning which means it's also one of the very first X-Pro 1s ever made!
Awesome video as always, I still have my x-pro1 which I bought when it first came out and I absolutely love using it, I did buy the X-Pro2 but even though I love the x-pro2 I tend to steer for the x-pro1 more even though I have other Fuji cameras, have a great day…
I still have mine :) It blows you away.. It's not about autofocus or high iso performance.. I shoot it at 4000 & 6400.. still is mind-blowing it's not noise (it's just noise in our head) and do yourself a favour and put the XF35mm F1.4 on it.. This was the original combo.. You'll be shocked on the results it produces.. Look up Zack Arias camera release video for Fujifilm in India.. :o
I need to get the 35 1.4 but I just love the Zeiss so much I haven’t felt the need to get one, but hopefully in the future I’ll pick one up and see what all the hype is about
X-Trans is in the X-M1 as well. I would recommend to only use manual lenses on the X-Pro 1 with a 3 stop ND filter for wide open shots. Any adapted vintage lens or Voigtlander lenses work great. Main reason I use this camera is I love the colours straight out of camera which I can't replicate in the later Fuji camera's. I shoot jpg only and make minor tweaks to contrast and exposure.
@@Gkaras55 There is no electronic shutter on the X-pro so in bright sunlight you won't be able to shoot at wide apertures. There's only contrast detect AF so there's no point in using autofocus glass on this camera in my opinion. When I need autofocus, I use a Sony. The EVF is good enough and I love camera's that have it in the left corner. Feels great when shooting. Nose isn't up against the screen. A lot of compromises on this camera, but the colours and jpgs are more film like in my opinion.
i don’t own an X-Pro1 but two weeks ago, i exchanged my M1 MBP for an X-T1 with a mint 16-55mm f2.8 and i’ve been having a blast testing out FujiXWeekly’s X-Trans II recipes. the Monochrome film sim is insanely good and a few tweaks can get it looking like Acros or Cinestill BwXX especially when i’m above ISO4000. the Classic Chrome & Pro Neg Std are gorgeous too. there’s something really special about these older Fujis. still itching to upgrade to an X-Pro3 or X-T5 though. awesome video by the way! tuned in from South Africa. 🤞🏽
I’d suggest buying the modern Fuji and holding onto that XT1, while modern Fuji’s are amazing there is a certain something about the older bodies that you just can’t replicate, maybe it’s the lower resolution or something but the files out of these older cameras just look so damn good!
I still own the same xpro1 that i bought april 2012. + 35mmf1.4. The images are indeed special for a digital camera. The functionality is very clumsy compared to so, like my xe4, which has a diopter and focus magnifier that with manual lenses. I sort of would like to sell it because i rarely use it, but it looks so cool, and the price keeps going up
My X-Pro is 12 years old, had it from new. It's only fault is the command wheel in the back has been temperamental, but application of contact cleaner sorted it for now. Try the X-Pro1 (or the other two for that matter) with the tiny TTArtisan 25mm f2. Manual focus only, very quick focussing with the amazingly short throw from infinity to 1m (and then closer). Lovely vintage look in the images - which are razor sharp in the centre. You can lose the old-fashioned fuzzy corners in post, or just by shooting 16:9 or 1:1 instead of 4:3. And the real upside is you can get one brand new for about £70. It's a little X-Pro combo of your dreams.
Got two Xpro 1’s, both mint condition and rarely used. Just love the output from them, and I like that you have to slow down when using them. The autofocus is a bit sluggish and the viewfinder overrated but when you see the colours and renderings in the photos you forget all that. I use the old 35 f1.4 and the “kit” zoom which is amazing in itself. Missed out on an xpro3 so really hoping Fuji come up with a new model soon. Thanks for making the video and giving the old girls some more loving!🙏👍🇦🇺
Here’s hoping they release a new X-Pro although I have my doubts they’ll actually end up doing it, looks like all rumours point to them quietly discontinuing it because the XT line has now sorta taken over as their dedicated “photo” camera with the XH line being the flagship.

What in-camera "film recipe" (before applying LR preset) did you use for those Ferrari shots? Looks amazing.
I have it set to Film sim: Pro Neg STD WB: 5300K R: 1 B: -6 Colour: +2 Sharpness +2 Highlight Tone: -1 Shadow Tone: +2 Noise Reduction: -2 Long exp noise reduction: OFF Edited with the Everyday 400 preset from my first preset pack :)
I've shot and owned every Leica, Qs, Ms, SL, analog. The X-Pro 1 is still a beast. Just re-bought 2 for cheap. Reminds me of shooting the Contax G1&2 and the Hassie X-PAN. Shot weddings with the XPro1 back in the day. Good to have a few back in my daily carry. FYI-there is an OVF setting to show the parallax focus. That should help your OVF hit rate. As well as using the Fujicron F2 WR lenses. 2nd favorite camera after the M8.2 black paint. Cheers!
@@rudermanphoto Cool. It's in the settings. Tinker around. Let me know if you need to be pointed in the right direction. It will show the middle focus box and then an offset box with the green actual focus. It's annoying to see the ovf cluttered, but after a week or so you figure out the distance and parallax and then can turn it off.
My personal review being an X-Pro1 user since 2012, mine is even more battered than this one, I used it on many hikes and urban explorations I've done in the past (I has been even in an abandoned subway station) and still have it/use it many many times. Hope it can be helpful to you and many people watching your video: I have the original XF 18mm f2R and had also the "mythical" 35mm f1.4R, but sold it. Years after, bought the F2 WR version and never looked back. It's efectively an AMAZING camera, but I would never pay more than 250/300 € for it, it's somewhat slow focusing (I don't care on that, my photography or it's slow, or it's in manual pre-focus), and it has some problems sucking too much dust if you are using the original unsealed XF lenses (18/35/60 macro, had them years ago). In that sense, the X-Pro2 is the PERFECT balance between modern approaches, sealed body, and traditional use like the Pro1 (just program it with some color/BW presets one day and forget forever). The colours on the Pro1 are very good, specially if you make your own colour presets (adjusting film simulation, WB, highlights and shadow hardness, etc) and if you shoot raw and use some film presets, it can deliver incredible results and the dinamic range is impressive for being an APS-C with "only" 16MP. I've done 50x70 prints on canvas and foams and they look really cool. If you can pair it with the latest firmware updates and the original Fuji XF lenses (or at least some from the late 2010's like the 35mm f2 or the 16mm f2), it can deliver really nice results, they work in perfect sync, correcting any "flaws" that can have. My recomendation is to shoot in BW with hard shadow tones and soft hightlights, and do'nt be scared to shoot at high ISOs, the "grain/noise", specially in BW, is even pleasing, AND VERY IMPORTANT, shoot at -1,3 subexposure, the camera tends to overexpose somewhat. With the Hybrid viewfinder, in OVF mode it will practically nail the framing at almost any distance with a 23mm, with the 18mm will be more or less precise (it's wide, just shoot) and will be so-so with a 35mm. You can also change the magnification of the same if you leave the lever active for 1second, with that, you can shoot with the magnification of a 18mm with the 35mm and see your surroundings, but in some distances can be a bit inaccurate and miss the framing. Just in case, in OVF mode, set the AF in the middle and "reframe", if the subject is closer that 1m (i think) use the second focus rectangle. Also one more little trick: The autofocus will NAIL IT with vertical lines, aim for them! For example, if you are shooting to a face for a portrait and the person has glasses on it, aim to focus on the vertical edges of the glasses near the nose and sure will not hunt. And in case of fast paces photography/streetphoto, prefocus. A LOT. My personal Fn shortcuts are: Fn upper button to chose camera preset (ISO/colour etc...combination) and the "down arrow" for selecting focus points. It's everything on your reach and helps shooting a bit faster. Final caveat: If you find it for 300€, go for it, for the price is amazing, specially because the "perfect X-pro2" is 1000€ or more. And also pair it with the original X100 too, you'll be surprised shooting at f2 in macro mode or for some landscapes (got it too and I don't need a 23mm f2 thanks to that). If you need samples, tell me :)
Apologies about the delay!! Really trying to stick to a once a week posting schedule but it’s tough cause the videos take so long to make haha Should improve going forward though!
I'm a bit of a Fujifilm fan girl (X-T20, X70, X-Pro1, X-E1, X-T1, X100T, in the order that I bought them) and the X-Pro1 & X-E1 are my favorites, due to their sensor. I think the X-Pro1 is the most beautiful camera Fuji has ever made. Paid 300€ for one in mint condition in 2017. I tend to use mine with vintage manual focus lenses and for street photography, where I don't necessarily have to shoot the lens open wide and can rely a bit more on zone focussing. Even though I could easily sell it for twice the amount that I paid for it now, you'll have to pry it out of my cold dead hands first. (Instant follow @ 1:56 😄)
@@unbroken1010 I bought all of these cameras before the Fujifilm hype, when prices were still reasonable. To give you an example: the X-E1 was 150 bucks, the X-Pro1 300. Try finding them at that price now...
Love the video man, only complaint is that this won't help keep the prices down! I've been shooting an X-Pro1 for 4 years now and love it to bits. Picked up an X-E1 the other day as a spare, these first gen sensors are truly special
Big Matt! Loved the video. I just got my first xpro1. I actually got an xpro1 and x-t1 for $1000! You got yourself a bargain. I'm loving the xpro, im using the Ektachrome preset from fujixweekly. Its the type of camera that you shoot simply for the love of shooting. Its like an old friend. Great purchase man, great video!
Thank you for the kind words! That’s a great combo deal! I think they’d both compliment each other nicely. Haven’t really bothered trying any film sims with it, never got into using them I’ve always just shot RAW haha
I've had mine for over 5 years now and it was only *this week* that I discovered that if you press the thumbwheel you can zoom into the EVF for more accurate focussing. I love the images here with the flash.
Crazy prices you got in Australia. In Russia they go for arond 300-500$. I recently bought x-e1 for 220$ and then x100s for 270$ both in good condition. I think I like files from x100s more, but it definetly more fun shooting x-e1 with manual lenses.
Just bought one today for a steal! But now I have two questions. 1. How does one remove the grip?I think that makes the camera look excellent! And 2.wear can I get the skin to rewrap the camera?Thank you!
You can get the leather from Aki-Asahi, he sells a version of leather that removes the grip and covers the holes left by removing it. I have the “Black Lizard Emboss” leather. aki-asahi.com/store/html/X-Pro1/leather/X-Pro1_LeatherKit.php#non-grip
I was gifted one at the start of the year. After my sony alpha breaking. It was weird at first . But now I'm totally loving it. The shots come out beautifully. The colours and depth is amazing. A really awesome wee camera. ❤
Oh Mat. Your video has made me dust off my first ever digital Fujifilm. The xpro1. That has been bricked on my bookcase for half a decade. Gonna fix the old girl up and fire up the memories. Great news that it wasn't just me that had a low hit rate with one. I hadn't realised it was only in hybrid mode. Cracking review cracking content
Haha is it the case that all X-Pro1’s in hybrid mode seem to miss focus or something? Very interesting if so, but yeah try use EVF only and you’ll notice your hit rate will be drastically better.
Are you using focus aid in manual OVF mode, this magnifies image via live view - use by pressing rotating wheel right of view mode (might need a couple of presses)!
Yes, it makes manual focusing semi usable, but the super low contrast screen and the only peaking colour being white makes it still a bit of guesswork at wide open apertures.
@@rudermanphoto True, I tend to ignore peaking for that reason, depends on the time you have I guess, have the same problem with my M cameras when wide open!
The XE1 came out with a better EVF, then the XM1 came out with nothing!...M1 has the gen 2 processor if you didnt know and is a good companion(with 27mm) to Pro1.One of my Fuji bags has all 3 bodies with different primes....The coating looks great with the kinda matching strap,FUN bodies the first gen X trans...Also, Ive not noticed missed focus when using OVF,I'll pay attention in future and see if it happens.
I use it with Manuel focus lens minolta rokkord 58mm f/1.4 and no problem with the magnification when i press the scroll wheel in manuel focus. Amazing camera, pleasing to use and fantastic results. Thanks for the video
In my experience it’s very very very difficult to tell the difference between the I or II sensor so if you are after slightly better tech beyond the xpro 1 maybe try that.
I certainly think the XP2 had a very similar image output, but they’re now so expensive and I absolutely hate the top dial iso adjustment, although I believe you might be able to re-map it to a FN button, I didn’t really experiment much with it though.
@@rudermanphoto yep I’ve been with the Fujifilm system for about 9 years , now even swapping out older gear with entry level cameras like the xt30ii or the upcoming xt50 requires serious justification…
Yeah, I'm considering the XP1 or XE1 in August 2024 but the prices are just so high. I've had the silver XT1 brand new for $650 since 2017. I kinda thinking I should just continue to enjoy it and stop obsessing LOL!
Good video! I sold my XPro1 a year ago but always regretted it! Looks like you have a good lens collection as well, maybe make a comparison/recommended lenses video? Curious to know if the 50f1.0 is worth the high price tag Specialty compared to the new 56mm! Oh and how much would be a fair price for the Zeiss 32mm in your opinion? Thanks!
The video before this one is my Fuji lens guide one! I haven’t personally tried the new 56 1.2 WR, I hear it’s very good but I’ve been very happy with the 50 1.0, although not on a small body, it’s really only suitable on like an x-t5 with a grip or the X-h2s. I paid $750 aud for my Zeiss brand new, that was with an eBay coupon though, used I think 600-700ish is a reasonable price.
I was thinking about selling my xpro1 since I recently picked up a GR III but I think you’ve convinced me to keep it. Also since I see other talking about their crazy deals, I got mine as a gift back in 2020 from my buddy!
I love my X Pro-1. It's my most fun camera. I'm sorry that manual focus is difficult on it. Manual focus (without focus by wire) would otherwise be the perfect fit for this camera.
This camera seems to render images a little GRish, which is a big plus in my opinion. The autofocus doesn't seem a big issue to me, because if I ever use this camera, I will stick with manual focusing anyway. I have had a chance to test the new GFX 100 II and the thing which impressed me most was its viewfinder, feels like some VR glasses. It also wasn't as heavy as I've thought. It seems that viewfinders in general have been Fuji's pair of shoes.
The autofocus is not too bad, if you’re patient with it it will be ok, as long as you aren’t shooting anything super fast moving should be alright - I can certainly say manually focusing on the xpro1 is not the best experience, especially compared to how good the modern Fuji EVF’s are, but it is doable if you insist.
It's a shame that fuji can't get their quality control together the xpro 1 had a shutter button that is worth fixing. xpro 2 was great but the iso dial fails. Flux capacity x pro 3 lcd malfunction. They can put out nice images
I just bought this camera two days ago I have been looking for a good mint XPro 1 since six years here in Germany and it was so hard to find a one in a good shape But finally I found it in a camera store I was standing behind the glass of the shop looking into the XPro 1 and I was saying holy shit am i in a dream or is it for real I was completely going crazy I entered the shop and checked the camera I said to the guy give me this piece of history I do have the XE-1 and now my dream came true with finding the XPro 1 This camera has its negative side but what matters is that this camera has a soul It’s just majestic I advise you man if you can get your hand on an XE-1 It is the baby of the XPro 1 you will enjoy it too Let’s all wait and see how the XPro 4 is going to be like.. Peace out …
Did you go into the menu and click on parallax correction. This should help with auto focusing with the optical viewfinder. Please let me know how you fare.
I’ve got it enabled, it’s been enabled ever since I got the camera, you can see it in the viewfinder shots in the video 6:16 - I was curious as to why there were two boxes, am I meant to rely on the dotted box to point where I want it in focus or on the center solid box instead?
use the optical viewfinder its much better for autofocusing as u dont have to deal with the slow refresh rates of these old fujis. a green focus confirmation will appear in between the two boxes depending on your distance to the subject. i dont remember which box will turn fully green for infinity and for close focus. after a while youll get used to it n can quickly kinda estimate on where ur focus confirmation will end up depending on your distance to your subject. kinda like a distance scale confirmed: solid box is infinity focus
@@rockporttwentyseven maybe I just need to practice some more with it, now that I sorta understand what the separate boxes mean I reckon id be able to use it better. It is genuinely very fun using the ovf, I hate the EVF in it haha
its a hype, i have one as a slow shooter , buy a panasonic g80/85 ttartisan 25mm f2 combo little snapseed/ lightroom Android , prices for this camera x pro 1 is way to high
It’s the SquareHood Model V! It fits the 23 f2 and the 35 f2 Stupid expensive at $129.95 aud but it looks so cool! Edit: you can buy it from the official SquareHood website for $101 aud actually
The original X100 had a 12.3mp EXR CMOS sensor with a Bayer pattern, not X-Trans, the X100s was the first to have the X-Trans and it was the 2nd generation of it.
@@rudermanphoto ah, many thanks for the clarification. I do recall how nice the files looked on the x100 original though. But never got a chance with the later models until I picked up the V
I’m a long time x-pro1 user and love it. But I will be needing that preset pack after watching this! 😂 Greta video and lovely work dude. Could I ask what flash you’re using with the x-pro1? Cheers.
Thank you!! I use the sadly discontinued EF-x20 flash, I love it and really wish Fuji didn’t stop producing it because the resale price of them is absurd now haha
@@sunclimber7428check out the Godox Lux Junior or the FlashQ Q20II, both are good and reasonably priced alternatives although sadly neither as quite as good as the EF-X20 haha
A few months ago! The price was indeed amazing - I think people must have been scared off by its patina, the seller said it had been up for sale for a week which is wild given how quick some Fuji stuff sells!
It’s been over 5 years since I last used an XE camera so I can’t really recall what the EVF quality was like in comparison but the EVF on the XP1 is pretty god damn terrible, maybe the worst EVF I’ve ever used. Compared to the modern XT5 and especially XH2s which has the best EVF I’ve ever used it’s a stark contrast that’s for sure! I love the idea of the OVF and the rangefinder like experience of seeing more of the frame is very neat but I have had heaps of issues with images just being out of focus when shot with the Ovf using autofocus, maybe with zone focusing it would be better, need to do some more testing. For that reason I just kept it in its EVF mode, while the quality sucks it’s good enough to compose and take photos with so it’s alright, I make do haha
@@rudermanphoto yes exactly. Same sensor. For me, the size and the flash and few things made it my favorite. My other favorite sensor is in my original X100.
I have tried M mount glass on it, it’s really great but it doesn’t beat the experience of using a real rangefinder like the M8. The benefit is you don’t need to deal with the IR cut filters on the xpro1!
I think the image quality is better then the M8, not just cause it’s higher resolution but you’ve got waaay more flexibility in terms of high iso performance, I was getting totally usable images at 5000 ISO on the XP1 whereas the M8 is pretty much useless after 640 haha The M8 does have a certain charm to the photos and the shooting experience is pretty different too, and the M8 is built much better, so they both have their strong points but for overall image quality the XP1 is definetly the better choice, which isn’t surprising given its 6 years younger too haha I’ll be sure to make a comparison video though! Especially when using the same lens on both
@rudermanphoto watching a lot of your videos, good stuff, nice to see some youtubers from melbs. The only big issue with your videos is that you're making my wallet cry. I've been so tempted to grab a zeiss touit now 😆
At the end of it's run, Fuji USA was blowing them out at B&H for $500 USD NEW. I bought 2 of them. There are only 3 digital cameras I know of today that you can buy new that give you more of an organic "film look" to your images: The Pentax K1 Mark II and the Pentax K3 III and K3 III Monochrome. Of course, the easiest and best way to get the "film" look is to shoot film... And that's why I shoot the BEST SLR ever made the Pentax LX. 🙂 (When I'm not shooting 4x5 or 8x10.)
What a steal!! I’d love a brand new in box one, although I will admit I do rather love how patina’d my one looks, it’s so unique and special hehe Never shot with a Pentax DSLR, I’ve heard great things though!
The F2/2.8 prime lenses are the best for Xpro series. The Pro2 is the gem of the range. The pro1 is too limited anf the pro3 was a mistake with that back screen.
I had no clue about the sensor only being in two... I mean... 3 cameras. I have an xpro1 and the user interface is from the film age. That being said, when I look at my insta account, I've realized all my better shots were from that camera
I’ve been itching to get an XPro3 just to say I’ve tried all three of them, but the fragile ribbon cable in the display scares me, plus they’re all so expensive - but that titanium body is so hot.
X pro1 forever. ps the pro1 sensor is the model mrse22234-s the M1 is the mrse22234-u/4 the difference summary is in the blue rendition and small other contrast differences. Pps Best way to use ovf is with the REAR focus button. No more out of focus pics
use a manual lens and learn zone focusing. You will love this camera even more. I have images out of this camera better than my Leica M's . ( get the Leica M adapter)
I have used some M Mount lenses on it and yes it is brilliant, even if the manual assist isn’t the best the experience is so fun and the quality of the images is just stunning too!
I must said that I though the whole magic thing to be fake. Then I bought one that was a good deal, since then I have been using it along my XT3. I found myself liking the Xpro ones more all the time. I am having quite a crisis since then jajaja
I bought the Zeiss 32 to go with my XP3 after watching your video (as well as other videos). Now you got me wanting an XP1 to go with it too! 😅 Luckily, I already have the 23 f2 and 18 f2... so you won't get me with those! hahaha. Great video! thanks!

All it sounds great but above 350-400 usd isnt a smart price for a camera over 10 years old unless its an m-series film leica. I have a fuji xt2. Its just a camera..nice camera with very bad autofocus and alow processing..dont think xpro1 is better.
@@rudermanphoto that's descent) I'm in Japan rn and it starts at 100k yen which is roughly 550-600 USD. I’ve never bothered with the film simulations, I just like how a Fuji feels to take photos with! Sony cameras have always felt very unergonomic and not designed well at all - technically incredible but man I hate using them lol I recently got a Lumix S5ii which feels like a nice medium of being technologically advanced enough but also still enjoyable to shoot with, even if it is devoid of any style whatsoever haha

Eh no you can't just get it repaired fuji has been running out of parts across the board for awhile . Something goes wrong it's most likely just going to be a brick
I contacted Fuji and was told it was still serviceable, perhaps they will eventually run out of parts but it’s definitely not going to be impossible to fix in the coming years. Also the fact that it uses a very common and still produced battery makes it a winner in my eyes, there are basically zero 3rd party batteries available for the M8 so your only option is to hunt around for used genuine options which are both expensive and won’t have full capacity. It’s why I love the Ricoh GRD’s too, they all share the same batteries as the GR1 and GR2 (gr3 finally changed batteries) With old cameras being able to source new batteries is usually the biggest determining factor in whether they’ll actually still be usable in the future.
On my third X-Pro1 body… hands down one of the best cameras I’ve owned and used. Bought my original years ago, worked it really hard until the shutter eventually failed a few weeks ago.
What’s the point of nd filter? Also what about focusing? Evf is garbage
Thanks for a great video, and you’ve inspired me to dig out my x pro 1 😊
Same here. I almost put mine, with original boxes on ebay today.
i don’t own an X-Pro1 but two weeks ago, i exchanged my M1 MBP for an X-T1 with a mint 16-55mm f2.8 and i’ve been having a blast testing out FujiXWeekly’s X-Trans II recipes. the Monochrome film sim is insanely good and a few tweaks can get it looking like Acros or Cinestill BwXX especially when i’m above ISO4000. the Classic Chrome & Pro Neg Std are gorgeous too. there’s something really special about these older Fujis. still itching to upgrade to an X-Pro3 or X-T5 though. awesome video by the way! tuned in from South Africa.
Have you tried the old 35 1.4 . It is the perfect match
I love both my X-T1s, the black one and the graphite silver one!
I have it set to
Film sim: Pro Neg STD
WB: 5300K R: 1 B: -6
Colour: +2
Sharpness +2
Highlight Tone: -1
Shadow Tone: +2
Noise Reduction: -2
Long exp noise reduction: OFF
Edited with the Everyday 400 preset from my first preset pack :)
Cheers!
Ooooh, that setting might be what I need to enable, I’ll check it out - thank you for the tip!!
Hi, Looks like you have an X-PRO1 Signature. There was an offer to early owners of the X-PRO1 to change skin, if i remember correctly
let’s gooooo! been so chuffed for this video.
I have 6 Fuji bodies and the Xpro1 is my fave. It’s the go to when I don’t need fast autofocus.
Damn that’s an impressive collection, what other Fuji’s have you got?
@@rudermanphoto XE1/XE2/XT1/XT2/XPro2 …….. also have an x20 a nice point and shoot
My personal review being an X-Pro1 user since 2012, mine is even more battered than this one, I used it on many hikes and urban explorations I've done in the past (I has been even in an abandoned subway station) and still have it/use it many many times. Hope it can be helpful to you and many people watching your video:
I have the original XF 18mm f2R and had also the "mythical" 35mm f1.4R, but sold it.
Thank you for the tips
Yes. Another video from you. 🎉
Apologies about the delay!! Really trying to stick to a once a week posting schedule but it’s tough cause the videos take so long to make haha

Really underrated thank you!
Wow you sound richer then a arms dealer 🤔
@@unbroken1010 I bought all of these cameras before the Fujifilm hype, when prices were still reasonable. To give you an example: the X-E1 was 150 bucks, the X-Pro1 300. Try finding them at that price now...
Love the video man, only complaint is that this won't help keep the prices down! I've been shooting an X-Pro1 for 4 years now and love it to bits. Picked up an X-E1 the other day as a spare, these first gen sensors are truly special
The prices for these have been crazy for ages, I personally wouldn’t pay over 800aud for one - but yeah I guess this video doesn’t help things 😂
Big Matt! Loved the video. I just got my first xpro1. I actually got an xpro1 and x-t1 for $1000!
You got yourself a bargain. I'm loving the xpro, im using the Ektachrome preset from fujixweekly.

Sounds like the prices from 2019 🥲
I wish they were that cheap still!

The Xpro1 with the original 35mm 1.4 is on par with the original 5D and the 50mm, some things were meant to be together.

You can’t sell a gift!! I vote hold onto it, there’s not much else like it!
Keep it for when the gr3 dust vacuum turns on 😂
I love my X Pro-1.
@@rudermanphoto unless it's a wide (18-23 mm) angle lens stopped down to f5.6-11, that's how I shoot street photos.

Did you go into the menu and click on parallax correction. This should help with auto focusing with the optical viewfinder. Please let me know how you fare.
I’ve got it enabled, it’s been enabled ever since I got the camera, you can see it in the viewfinder shots in the video 6:16 - I was curious as to why there were two boxes, am I meant to rely on the dotted box to point where I want it in focus or on the center solid box instead?
use the optical viewfinder its much better for autofocusing as u dont have to deal with the slow refresh rates of these old fujis. a green focus confirmation will appear in between the two boxes depending on your distance to the subject. i dont remember which box will turn fully green for infinity and for close focus.
after a while youll get used to it n can quickly kinda estimate on where ur focus confirmation will end up depending on your distance to your subject. kinda like a distance scale
confirmed: solid box is infinity focus

Do you prefer the OVF of the X-Pro series or the EVF of the XE series?
Something Very Special to me about the original X-Trans. I wound up selling the xpro1 for the X-E1 for a few reasons.
They both have the Xtrans 1 though?
@@rudermanphoto yes exactly. Same sensor. For me, the size and the flash and few things made it my favorite. My other favorite sensor is in my original X100.
Try put the leica optics on the xpro1. You might get blown away again. Have you tested that? Some say the xpro1 with leica glass blows the m8 away.
I have tried M mount glass on it, it’s really great but it doesn’t beat the experience of using a real rangefinder like the M8.
The benefit is you don’t need to deal with the IR cut filters on the xpro1!
@rudermanphoto Okey, thanx for reply 👍☺️
So ...would you say image quality is the same as the M8 ? And if you had to pick one which would it be ? Make a video about it ?
I think the image quality is better then the M8, not just cause it’s higher resolution but you’ve got waaay more flexibility in terms of high iso performance, I was getting totally usable images at 5000 ISO on the XP1 whereas the M8 is pretty much useless after 640 haha
The M8 does have a certain charm to the photos and the shooting experience is pretty different too, and the M8 is built much better, so they both have their strong points but for overall image quality the XP1 is definetly the better choice, which isn’t surprising given its 6 years younger too haha
I’ll be sure to make a comparison video though! Especially when using the same lens on both

I have used some M Mount lenses on it and yes it is brilliant, even if the manual assist isn’t the best the experience is so fun and the quality of the images is just stunning too!
Cool video! My first Fujifilm and shoot it still very often. Did you know the XP1 can take a double exposures in RAW? Love the thing 🩶
I have seen that function but am yet to try it out, I’ll give it a go!
@@rudermanphoto It's in the menu and you need to enable it and when done switch again. Must try!
I must said that I though the whole magic thing to be fake. Then I bought one that was a good deal, since then I have been using it along my XT3. I found myself liking the Xpro ones more all the time. I am having quite a crisis since then jajaja
I was the same till I used it!
It really is a special camera and something which needs to be experienced to be understood.
You must have a bad copy because my x pro 1 hits focus most of the time. They are also back up around $500-$550 now.
In the OVF mode? In EVF mode my XP1 is solid, hits focus most of the time in good light
and don't forget the X-M1 ;-) also X-trans I
Yes I realized only after recording the video that was the case haha
@@rudermanphoto it is small but mighty in it's own right ;-)
I dreamed of getting this camera. When I finally did I realised it was super bad 😂
Ah that’s a shame, maybe you had your expectations set too high haha
I bought the Zeiss 32 to go with my XP3 after watching your video (as well as other videos). Now you got me wanting an XP1 to go with it too! 😅 Luckily, I already have the 23 f2 and 18 f2... so you won't get me with those! hahaha. Great video! thanks!
Haha I’ve always wanted an XP3 myself, just to say I’ve tried all three of them…maybe if I can find one for a good price
the Xtrans 2 sucks ?
Vid cam in. Call does reasonable repairs it seems and have a good rep. Most repair people won't even open one. It's such proprietary elements they are petrified 😂 allegedly

All it sounds great but above 350-400 usd isnt a smart price for a camera over 10 years old unless its an m-series film leica. I have a fuji xt2. Its just a camera..nice camera with very bad autofocus and alow processing..dont think xpro1 is better.
I paid 350usd for my xpro 1 :)
@@rudermanphoto that's descent) I'm in Japan rn and it starts at 100k yen which is roughly 550-600 USD. Gush, there was an utterly physically damaged but technically great pro1 in Moscow for just 300 USD. Kind of regret not buying one. Still, struggling to understand if I like Fuji xt2. I've got Sony a6400 and Leica cl on my hands - both are technically work.so.much better. And colouring. We'll probably I'm.just blind but even with all those film "recepies" I don't fuji find photos to be superior to the lightroom preset power :)
I’ve never bothered with the film simulations, I just like how a Fuji feels to take photos with!
Sony cameras have always felt very unergonomic and not designed well at all - technically incredible but man I hate using them lol
I recently got a Lumix S5ii which feels like a nice medium of being technologically advanced enough but also still enjoyable to shoot with, even if it is devoid of any style whatsoever haha
@@rudermanphoto I agree,Sony cameras are hell to use, especially the menu system. Although,my a7RIV crisp and quality paired with sigma 35 1.4 art are unparalleled. Of Lumix I own gm1 which is great when I can't carry around anything bigger. Never considered s5ii as micro 4/3 look significantly less perfect in terms of photo quality 🤔. I was thinking about having a look at a7cii but it costs more in Japan than in Russia lol so I'm waiting till I go back there. I considered medium format Fuji but man they are freaking expensive.
First off, dope video. Secondly... SUBSCRIBED ! Lastly.. One of the greatest cameras I've ever owned, and still shoot it til' this day ! If you have 3min to spare, check the CAMERA playlist on my page...X-Pro in 2024 is the video, B&W ! Which I happen to ONLY shoot this camera in.
I’ll check it out! Thank you for the recommendation!
Eh no you can't just get it repaired fuji has been running out of parts across the board for awhile
It’s why I love the Ricoh GRD’s too, they all share the same batteries as the GR1 and GR2 (gr3 finally changed batteries)
With old cameras being able to source new batteries is usually the biggest determining factor in whether they’ll actually still be usable in the future.
Images look nice but Nah too expensive
It’s one of the cheapest Fuji camera’s you can buy lol
