The scary toilet waste tank is easily emptied without smells or mess. Which style of toilet do you prefer… Cassette? Black Tank? Compost? Dry-flush? Thanks for watching. Info, in-person events, campouts and more at www.GoSmallLiveLarge.com Journey on :)

We hv a cassette but, would be happy w/most all but a blk tank. Rarely use campgrounds & often in places where access to dump stations are an inconvenience.

@@bearlynormalwetshaver1894I prefer a black tank but you make some great points. After a trip I will have to find a dump station and not many around me. Wish there was a way to have a black tank for camping and a cassette for the travels home!

I’ve never had a cassette toilet but I think I would prefer that to a black tank especially in a van or a small b+. And I do currently have a black tank in our 5th wheel.

Having all the supplies outside in the gear box is a great idea and so much more convenient to access them for emptying the tanks. Great tutorial.

As someone who is considering a van for travel vs traditional hotels etc, this was extremely helpful! The toilet is something that makes me unsure. After watching you do this it is not that horrible 😂

It's easy. Just takes ~15-20 minutes of time to drain/flush the waste tanks and fill the water tank. My Winnebago Travato came with a defect in the toilet assembly from the factory and they're giving me hell about fixing it. As long as your unit is assembled competently then you should be fine.

I just picked up my Nova at SSRV. Wish I had seen this first. I really needed this video since I'm a total newbie. And I'm glad you're back! You're the reason I switched to a Nova, thanks to your tours, and to SSRV thanks to your ambassadorship.

The count down video was very sporty so I was thinking maybe tank dumping might be the next Olympic sport 😂 I do take it very seriously. I've got one of those external macerators so I can access my home clean out 30 feet away. I often fill the tank 2 or 3 times with water and flush it out until it comes clear. A clear extension is key to seeing your results.

In some countries like Spain you are not allowed to put tp in the toilet because of the small pipes.. Since you are putting wipes already in the trash seems like it would be easier to put your tp in too. We have a small trash can with a lid for the 2 of us and we empty it daily. No smell or worries and don't have to use 1 ply paper. Good video though and glad to see you posting again, ps: We all love to watch toilet videos, lol, No matter how you travel...we all have to go somewhere.

Since I travel solo, a composting toilet works best for me. Less time and maintenance overall.

Is there a drain in the bottom of the slinky van storage? It was put away wet and I just wondered if it dried during storage. Great video.

I don't like the idea of hooking the black tank flush hose to my freshwater spigot. There's probably only a small chance of "cross-contamination," but still, it makes me uneasy. I'd rather flush the black tank at a regular campground dump station where there's a water source dedicated to black tank flushing. Also, when emptying tanks it might be a good idea to run a little of the gray tank through the hose first to be sure all the connections are tight and the dump hose has no leaks before opening the black tank valve. After emptying the black tank then go back and finish emptying the gray tank.

I agree. I take some extra steps. I use a back flow preventer and a dedicated orange rhino hose on a y splitter for doing this.

I use Walex Elemonate overnight in a near full grey tank. You can also go for a quick ride with it to get everything agitated and then let it sit that definitely helps.

First, don't let anything oily or greasy go down the drain--it'll stick to the plastic plumbing and tank walls, and turn rancid over time. Occasionally you might want to pour a cup of liquid dish soap down the drain a day before you expect to dump. If your water is very hard you may want to descale; there are commercial products specifically for that, or you might find DIY instructions online. Before doing anything be sure to read your RV's manuals.

This thumbnail makes me cringe. You just know there's been plenty of accidents/spills within the perimeter of that receptacle. No way I'd be crawling on the ground around it!
