      Thanks so much, that's great to hear. Wish I had more content. Going to try and put something together for next week or do a Q&A livestream. Itching to get out myself. Hopefully not too long to go.

    Another entertaining and informative video, thanks again. Your past 5 or so videos have been my favorites, they keep getting better! Thanks for the fly fishing content, I find them very motivational for getting out there and fishing on the weekends. Congrats on a great day of fishing!

      Thank you so much, Rachel. It's great to get this type of feedback. I'm working hard to make them entertaining and add some useful info in as well. I am planning a bit more tutorial-type videos as well and a bunch of adventures to the backcountry and some car camping things this summer. Hopefully, they will let us out of Auckland soon. Tight lines.

      Awesome, I'm just about to release another Euro nymphing vid, hopefully tomorrow and the winter season starts again soon so there will be lots of euro vids coming up over the next 6 months. Let me know if there is something specific you would like to see or know and I'll try to cover it in a future video. I'm no expert but have picked up a few things. Thanks for watching

    Nice. Yep, that swinging technique can be very relaxing...

    • @CrazyAboutFlyFishing
      @CrazyAboutFlyFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha yeah but it's worth it when you do hook them. I've had some great days on the swing and some busts. I'm really enjoying the single handed setup swinging down on my way back after a day of fishing up. It just saves an otherwise wasted day back and I often hook into a few food fish.

    Someday you should try your Euro nymphing with a tenkara rig. Removes the line management from the equation and makes landing more of a challenge. You may never go back to your conventional fly rod.

    • @bradystoffer1078
      @bradystoffer1078 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that a Tenkara setup has a time and place but I'm not sure this particular piece of water or the fish that reside in it are the one. It can 100% be an absolute blast though for sure.

    • @CrazyAboutFlyFishing
      @CrazyAboutFlyFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks that's an interesting suggestion. How do you handle these mad fish without a reel though? I'll have to look up some tenkara vids

    What’s with all the different lines I’m looking to get into euro nymphing seems a bit complicated

    • @CrazyAboutFlyFishing
      @CrazyAboutFlyFishing  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, it's unnecessarily complicated really. Keep it simple. Euro fly line to 1.5 rod lenghts of two tone sighter tippet to a tippet ring and then tippet from there to your flies as needed for the depth you are fishing. You should end up with 2 rod lenths total to your point fly.

    • @Riich87
      @Riich87 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CrazyAboutFlyFishing thank you. What about normal fly fishing? It’s just fly line and a lesser right? Or no lol I’m clueless

    • @CrazyAboutFlyFishing
      @CrazyAboutFlyFishing  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Riich87 yes, "normal fly fishing" uses a tapered weighted fly line to cast the flies attached to a leader. There are many different methods, but the main difference from euro nymphing is using the fly line to cast, not the weight of the flies.

  • @Asmith736049
    @Asmith736049 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What is the euro nymph rod you are using? Weight and length?

    • @CrazyAboutFlyFishing
      @CrazyAboutFlyFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a Traper GST 10'6 3wt with a GST nymph full cage real and traper euro nymph fly line to 10ft of bicolor 2x leader to 4ft of 4x to dropper and another foot to the point fly. Pink beaded and orange hotspot flies seemed to do the trick on the day.

    • @Asmith736049
      @Asmith736049 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow...I live in the US. The only trout of that caliber I am euro nymphing for are in the 12 to 25 inch range and not that heavy. I use the same rod and it sure puts a bend on it! Surprised you use that for those caliber fish

    • @CrazyAboutFlyFishing
      @CrazyAboutFlyFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Asmith736049 it works a treat actually. The butt has a lot of power in it. The problem is that 4x tippet is needed to fish with lighter flies and clear conditions so sometimes the snags get you first. If it's a bit colored up I fish up to 2x and just go real heavy then you can muscle them in. The rod has plenty of grunt.

  • @Beeline533

    Do you lose a lot of fish because of all the slack in the line?

    • @CrazyAboutFlyFishing
      @CrazyAboutFlyFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keep in mind I have only euro nymphed for a few months so my contact and line management isn't great. I am aware I shouldn't have slack line when euro nymphing, if I do I would miss a lot of takes and miss fish for sure but I'm not sure if this is what you are referring to? Could you clarify? I don't normally have slack after hooking the fish, if anything I may be going a bit hard on them.

      Nope this one is a caddis pattern with CDC and a pink bead but it is the reason I tied the other pink ones. I will be tying more of this one too. We'll that's if I make it down that way before October 1st which at this point seems unlikely. If not it will be straight to the backcountry for me.

      I'm in New Zealand and the technique is called Euro Nymphing here. Nymphing normally refers to using an indicator/bobber and a double nymphing rig truck and trailer. Not tried tenkara yet.

  • @_BlueAxis_
    @_BlueAxis_ หลายเดือนก่อน

    Euronymphing is not fly fishing, it's pseudo bait fishing, you just use fly gear as a punch fashion statement , you need a fly line for a fly reel and a fly rod.

    • @CrazyAboutFlyFishing
      @CrazyAboutFlyFishing  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well I don't disagree with you that it isn't fly fishing. Yes, the only thing that truly separates fly fishing from any other fishing is casting using the weight of the fly line. Euro certainly uses the weight of the flies. However, regardless of our own opinions of whether it is fly fishing or not , it is very effective and in New Zealand it is a legal fly fishing method that can be used in fly fishing only waters according to the rules, as it is most places in some form. I am not a fly fishing purist in any form anyway and use whatever method I feel like that is legal. Hey I happily bait fish on any day especially with my kids as long as it's legal in the waters I am fishing. To me the method doesn't matter as much I just enjoy fishing. In anyway as I said it is legally considered fly fishing here and while I still prefer casting my fly line, I will definitely Euro when the situation calls for it, like it does in winter in New Zealand's North Island. Always appreciate the input and to have a good discussion. Tight lines and hope you enjoy some of my fly fishing videos instead, there are plenty. I mostly label anything that is exclusively euro nymphing as euro nymphing.
