Ceri...as a past professional watercolorist and a teacher, I will tell you what I told my students. The paper is EVERYTHING! You have learned the steps and I can see you know what you are doing so trust your skills and purchase some excellent paper. It really makes a difference. If you have a paper that has too much sizing and stuff in it, no matter how hard you work, you will not get the results you deserve! Oh...and thanks for all your wonderful videos!
I love the result Ceri, beautiful! I admire your bravery to share your process and progress. I am on a journey too and I appreciate you sharing yours. My biggest struggle is my perfectionism so it is very helpful following your efforts against that and in some areas embrace it for being you. I guess it is a balance. I think I actually will sit down and do these pebbles today too. I think I might need this book too . Love Camilla
I agree - I have several white pens and none of them seem to work all the time. Thanks you for letting us know you asked her about sharing. So respectful of you! Doing your own thing is what makes it "YOUR" art.
I loved your video about watercolor rocks. I have never done watercolor. You made it look so much fun. I keep your videos on all day and watch you while resting. You are so talented and easy to follow. Thank you very much.
Well done Ceri, I love the way you end up going off piste and doing your own thing! I have the book and you have inspired me to have a go. Many thanks.
I loved this video, thank you so much for the book recommendation. I have had brand new palettes of water colors in my craft room and never pulled them out because I've never been sure what to do with them. But this pebble idea is brilliant and I love it. Like so many others, I've ordered the book, and I'm going to have a play this afternoon. BTW, can't wait for your review on those sharpies. I have got some, and I have found the white is quite good on acrylic paint, but that's about all I've done with mine, so again, you are a great source of ideas. Have a lovely week.
I've bought the book and poured through it. (Got on a whim; as it was on sale in the UK.) Now itching to have a go at the tutorials inside too. As always, love listening to your creative process! I too have had hit/miss success with white pens. Curious now and following. Dioch, darling 🥰
Watching you watercolor paint was inspirational and encouraging. I’m taking a watercolor class and struggle a bit. Kate,s book was delivered today. I’m going to give it a go🥰
Such great fun and a lovely, lovely final painting. 8 mos into my water color journey here. White space and flipping white pens are my achilles heel. I actually did a search on TH-cam about white ink. The majority of watercolorists have the same issue whether Posca or geli pens. I finally bought Dr. Martins bleed proof white. Comes in a small jar, goes a long way. Best used when everything is dry. But I do use it thinned down for highlights and making pastel colors. Sorry for the treatise. I enjoy your art journeys.
I had a similar idea as your thumbnail! I got a pebble stencil as part of a mystery bag and thought of using it for a similar design. Glad you found an artist that inspired you enough to go forth and conquer! You can also use colored pencils over watercolor too. Maybe a white pencil will show up a bit more?
Absolutely loved this video, Ceri. What a beautiful page❤😊. I am your white pen twin!!! I've spent way too much money trying to get one that leaves a strong impression. I use slightly watered down acrylic paint in a squeezy fine tip bottle. I find it great 😊
Ceri: this was certainly an excellent tutorial. I like what you did. However, I see them as decorative rocks rather than decorative pebbles. Carol from California
Very nice watercolor pebbles Ceri❤❤❤ I have the same struggle wit( white pens, I keep looking, using, changing…no way..but have hopes to find “the one”😂
Hi Ceri! Very nice to hear your thought process while doing this project, and I think you did very well. I have put that book in my wish list! I bought online classes on watercolors and having a book to refer to would be very nice. Thanks for sharing with us! 😊
Very beautiful. Your video has me up in my craftroom and pulling out a forgotten friend, like Gayle would say. I plan on water coloring and giving this a try this afternoon. I just ordered her book now also. Thanks for sharing Ceri and reminding me of a forgotten friend I totally forgot about. .
Wonderful dear xx I tried the pebbles last week and they are very addictive.... I think I added too much doodling to mine and spoilt the effects of the watercolour blooms etc.... will show you. Hope you do a few more in different colourways. xxx
Your painting turned out beautifully! Watercolor has always been my nemesis. My art style leans towards "neat, tidy, and in control". Watercolor can have a mind of its own and I need to learn to embrace that. So on your recommendation, I purchased the book. I can't wait to get started. It will either be a success or the book turns into collage bits :)
I followed her on Instagram, and commented that I found her through your TH-cam channel. She comment " Ahh fab, we've spoken over email, he's such a nice guy!"
Ceri, first let me say, you did such a great job with this piece! I’m so glad you did what you felt it needed, even if a slight deviation….Denise Love, an artist on here who I love as well, got this book before you, and has been doing pieces….you might want to check her out. For the white pens…..uuuugggghhhhh……the frustration of 1 pen working all the time…….I don’t think such a thing exists. I like the watered down white acrylic paint with a fine liner bottle/tip. But again, I love this beautiful piece you made.
“…not better than what I had before …” God’s truth! And, white pigment ink pads, too! And white media for splatter, also! I have a whole slew of all three, and none are exactly right. I feel a bit like Goldilocks.
Oh my goodness….i fiddle, fiddle fiddle and white space is difficult for me a well! My arty New Year’s resolutions will be to deal with white space, i have bound a sketchbook just for this purpose so i can track progress
I'm so enjoying this Ceri, your watercolour work is just beautiful. I was thinking in regards to the whole white pen thing, I know there are bottles available with very fine tips like the ones on the art glitter glue, I was wondering if you tried white paint in those if it would be more successful, I haven't had much luck with white pens either, and I'm just wondering how that would work. Also dragon eggs would be awesome done in that style, I'm so loving this, well done Ceri. 😃
@ I think a nibbed pen will probably be the answer too, the bottle I saw was a Derivan Fineline applicator, it's on a website called Artsup in Australia, I'm assuming there would be similar in Wales, I remembered it in the middle of the night. I can't wait to see what you create next. 😃
I have a ridiculous suggestion regarding your watercolour pallet tray. You were saying the swatch was upside down. Could you remove the tray and turn it around so that it will no longer be upside down to the swatch? I noticed that the watercolours were in a tray in the metal case. Could you lift the tray up and turn it around? Just wondering?
Ceri, Denise Love is doing a page out of that watercolor book you’ve been doing. If you haven’t watched her videos, they are very inspiring and helpful. Just thought I’d share that with you.
I’m wondering if the paint were turned 180 degrees with the lid open to the right. Then the pallet could set in the lid. Would the color chart work then?🤗💖🦋
Hi Ceri, love the video. I have a question for you. Sorry, it isn't about this video though. Have you ever used one of those really skinny DVD cases in or on a book? If you have or have an idea about it, would you please do a video on it? I came across some in a cupboard I have & I'm wondering how I might use them. I've seen them used as picture frames, but I'm looking for something a bit different for books I make. Help please. 😊
I've used them for dimensional and gem stone sticker storage and makeup pallets (i put a sheet of magnet down and most power pans are magnetic. I have my brown eye shows in one blues pinks and purples in another and blushes in a third)... but I've wondered what else can be done with them... and CD cases. The best I've found is little travel kits for kids...
Loose the ruler. You don’t see straight lines in nature. Also, right angles are not natural. Your rock in the upper right looks like it has a bandage on it.
While we live listening to you, The silence from you is as in- dicative of what youre doing as the actual movements you incorporate!! It wont overly bother any if your fans!!! IMO
Just some hints that might be helpful to you (or someone else) from a fellow watercolour beginner: as you are right handed, put the paint on the right hand side of the paper - this would also help with the upside down chart problem b/c you would put the paint tin up the other way - this way you are far less likely to get accidental drips and splashes on the paper as you mix and pick up paint; use professional, 100% cotton paper (yes, I know it is scarily expensive) b/c it is actually much easier to do watercolours on, and, as beginners, it makes much more sense to use a surface that makes painting predictable and satisfying rather than a surface that even professionals struggle with - having said that, the paper you are using does seem to be used by some professionals for swatching and practice, so it is probably far from the worst choice; consider cutting the paper into smaller pieces - my natural instinct was to work at about the size you have chosen but I have been really surprised by how much less intimidating a smaller piece of paper is and somehow easier to get a satisfying result on, even though it seems a bit counterintuitive b/c, as beginners, we tend to have less finesse or control (personally, I feel downright clumsy with a brush)… not to mention that you get more paintings from the one, very expensive sheet of watercolour paper if you divide or cut it up into smaller pieces… Please know that I am trying to be helpful, not critical!
… I suspect that some of your problems with the lack of gravity allowing the paint to flow to the bottom of the shapes might be due to not using 100% cotton, professional watercolour paper. The professional paper has a substance called “sizing” added that modifies the absorption of the water and pigment into the paper so that it doesn’t just get soaked up immediately…
…like you, I quite like how watercolour can run together and create blooms etc, and given this, I hope you don’t mind me suggesting that you check out a TH-camr called Christy Rice. Like you, I naturally tend towards “perfectionism”, so I find her joyful, free use of watercolour quite inspiring and interesting (and uplifting). I will just go and make sure that I have spelled her name correctly…
Finally, thank you so much for this video, Ceri! I loved seeing your progress through it and what a wonderful result at the end!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I had seen the book advertised but resisted purchasing it because I lean towards representational rather than abstract art, but now I am reconsidering…

Wow, this is wonderful! I think I need this book! As always, thanks for sharing!
Great job. Looking forward to the next session. Thank you for taking us along!
I loved the mark making you did on your pebble with the corrugated cardboard! I will have to look up this book! Thanks so much for sharing! 😊
Maybe if you turn the paint container around the color swatch will match. I have this book and love it! It’s great to watch you use it!
Great idea
I agree - I have several white pens and none of them seem to work all the time. Thanks you for letting us know you asked her about sharing. So respectful of you! Doing your own thing is what makes it "YOUR" art.
Well done Ceri. It turned out really well. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
I love this and I definitely love that you took the idea and made it your own ❤❤❤
I loved your video about watercolor rocks. I have never done watercolor. You made it look so much fun. I keep your videos on all day and watch you while resting. You are so talented and easy to follow. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much Jackie
Is there nothing that you can’t put your hand to ? I love this Ceri. This is in my future for sure. Well done…..🇦🇺
Thank you Sandra
Loving this one Ceri. ❤ Would certainly be out of my comfort zone but do want to give it a try
You have done well. You impressed me anyway. Louise from Australia
Thank you Louise
This is great! Thank you for sharing 😊
Well done Ceri, I love the way you end up going off piste and doing your own thing! I have the book and you have inspired me to have a go. Many thanks.
Wonderful Jane
I think it was beautiful with the thin white outlines but you have to like it. Beautiful work!
I think I was not used to creating art that delicate.
@@CeriGriffiths either way Ceri it’s beautiful and you may be inspiring me to find this book!
Beautiful work, I love it🤩
Turned out lovely! I have to say when you want to do something I think no, but then you do it and it turns out great! God bless
Thanks so much! 😊

Ceri I always deviate from the plan 😂. Great video ❤
Good job looks like it has depth to it.
I've bought the book and poured through it. (Got on a whim; as it was on sale in the UK.) Now itching to have a go at the tutorials inside too. As always, love listening to your creative process! I too have had hit/miss success with white pens. Curious now and following. Dioch, darling 🥰
This came out so beautiful. You look like you have really progressed. Great job Ceri!! 😊
I love my sharpie paint pens. They work wonderfully. The bullet isn't that big on them really. Work great for me.
Thank you so much
Watching you watercolor paint was inspirational and encouraging. I’m taking a watercolor class and struggle a bit. Kate,s book was delivered today. I’m going to give it a go🥰
Wonderful
I thoroughly enjoyed watching you experiment! It turned out really good.
Thank you
Your work is always beautiful but these are stunning ❤
Thank you so much Laurie
Such great fun and a lovely, lovely final painting.

Ceri, I have the same book and love it! Excited to see your project. Glad to hear she will have a 2nd book.

I’m with you I could paint a fine white line better than the pen.
This is a very cool journey - thank you so much Ceri.
For me the black and extra white, took away my eye goes to dark. Do love you that you did your thing with her inspiration. Enjoyed watching!!
Josie I’m going to try this again off camera and try to be more delicate.
Love these kinds of videos. I'm painting most of the day or watching others. I bought the book. Thx so much.

Bedankt voor het delen, ik dacht eerst niks voor mij maar wauw wat ontzettend mooi geworden, zo blij dat ik de video afgekeken heb!

Turn your paint box the other way, that is upside down! Just relocate your ceramic mixing tray.
I’ll try.

Never tried water colours this makes it durable yo play not being someone who can "paint" ❤

Great idea for the eggs. I was thinking a nibbed pen and a bottle of water resistant white ink.
@ I think a nibbed pen will probably be the answer too, the bottle I saw was a Derivan Fineline applicator, it's on a website called Artsup in Australia, I'm assuming there would be similar in Wales, I remembered it in the middle of the night. I can't wait to see what you create next. 😃
For the white marks, another option is to use a white crayon to make marks before you paint , it was a fun idea I used.
Cut the chart apart and glue onto a substrate to coincide with your paints 😊
I think I’m just going to reswatch
I have a ridiculous suggestion regarding your watercolour pallet tray. You were saying the swatch was upside down. Could you remove the tray and turn it around so that it will no longer be upside down to the swatch? I noticed that the watercolours were in a tray in the metal case. Could you lift the tray up and turn it around? Just wondering?
I think to be honest I’m just going to create a new swatch chart, I don’t need to know the paint names anyway.
That’s a clever idea, problem solved 😊
Ceri, Denise Love is doing a page out of that watercolor book you’ve been doing. If you haven’t watched her videos, they are very inspiring and helpful. Just thought I’d share that with you.
Yes I’ve seen her thank you Debbie.
I’m wondering if the paint were turned 180 degrees with the lid open to the right. Then the pallet could set in the lid. Would the color chart work then?🤗💖🦋
Possibly but I’ve decided to just make a new one.
💜💜💜 I have had better luck with white gouache or white calligraphy ink rather than any Posca pen.
Good to know Amy
Hi Ceri, love the video. I have a question for you.

I’ve not used them but I think some people use them as stamp storage.
@@CeriGriffiths stampin up stamps come in them...
Might I suggest you cut the guide into strips and arrange it to suit you.
Donna I think I’m just going to create a whole new swatch sheet.
Store the white pens flat. All pens should be stored flat.
I do store my paint pens flat not thought of doing that for my others. Thank you
Those white gel pens and markers drive me nuts. I cannot understand what is going on when someone else has no problems with theirs. 🙄
I’m the same
Loose the ruler. You don’t see straight lines in nature. Also, right angles are not natural. Your rock in the upper right looks like it has a bandage on it.
Fair point, possibly perfectionism made me reach for the ruler.
