Matthew is so very refreshing with history. We need always to remember that Shakespeare was a dramatist and an actor; you gotta sell tickets to be successful. Who knows? I find that I can't really make Richard III a saint; but because of Matthew I see many things which cause me to sit still and THINK. I can tell you now- sweet man that I am, I pick up bugs and spiders and take them outside- if I were king of any country back then I would have a committee of people just to look for heads to cut off! Being king is one paranoid, dirty job. Kill or be killed. I wouldn't trust ONE person. Love hearing Matthew talk and give information, nice voice, good speaker.

Really fascinating and opens the subject up really well. I think these debates Invite more objectivity and reflection. I find the Plantagenets and the transition to Tudor England very compelling and just so rich. 🙏

Hi there. I really enjoyed this program, so I looked for Episode 13 and it isn't listed among your other videos. The oldest only goes back to Episode 22?

Wellllll what about the Richard who is all smiles when he meets Rivers for a nice dinner. What about the Richard who is best pals with Hastings until he suddenly chops his head off. What about the Richard who has to deny he's after his niece. What about those two skeletons under the staircase, the trial of Tyrell attended by Henry V11 and Elizabeth because they wanted to know....... and then there is Shakespeare, Tudor apologist but he is painting a figure in a time when everyone's Grandma would be telling you what they knew, a time of aural history being handed down. And everyone would have heard about the dissembler.

Reverse the act of attainder and ……. Richard is your uncle ~ George, Duke of Clarence, is the father of two legitimate heirs who take precedence over Richard Duke of Gloucester. Sorry Richard turned himself inside out to become king whether Edward V and his brother are murdered are not. Richard may have been a decent local administrator in Yorkshire but he ends up as a real piece of work.

It would have been an interesting place to visit. I wouldn't want to live there.
