  • Welcome to the new season!!

I wanted to start of the new season with a bang, and so I was able to line up best-selling author and historian Alison Weir. Alison stops by to chat about Katheryn Howard, the Tudors....and of course we talk about Thomas Seymour.

The second segment of the show is called 'Ask the Expert'. This segment is for my listeners to be able to submit their questions to a historian on a specific subject. This episode my expert is historian/author Matthew Lewis and he answers your Richard III (and princes in the Tower) questions.

Lastly, we wrap up the episode with a 'Brief History' - just like the old days, I tell you a story about a specific person who lived between 1485 and 1603...this time it's a fascinating story about a madwoman who claimed to be the daughter of.....(you'll have to listen).

Wow, I really enjoyed this show! Two amazing guests, especially Matt Lewis. I've learned so many different things about Hastings and Richard the 3rd that I just didn't know, thank you so much ❤

I should love to know what Matthew Lewis thinks about Dr Starkey unearthing new evidence about Henry V11 and Elizabeth of York attending Tyrell's trial. Doesn't that indicate that Henry and Elizabeth wanted to know what had happened to the boys?

Rebecca! When you said you would forever see Margaret climbing a winding staircase with a dagger, I thought I would fall out of my chair! Thank you for that wonderful laugh. Superb! And, then, Matthew's sung background music!! Great! I know sometimes I m critical of things said by you experts (and they do all sound like experts), but I am learning so very much here. I like to hear opinions which I do not agree with; it is how one should learn, I believe. Thanks you so much for these podcasts.

Thanks so much for listening - Matt is one of my favorite guests because he's so easy to talk to. Also, who doesn't need a good laugh every once and awhile. I've realized like Rebecca in real life laughs a lot, and I should be more myself on the show.
I hope you continue to learn from this channel and that I never bore you. 😉

I received Alison's book on Catherine as an ARC. It was by far my favorite of the series. I thought it was so well written. I enjoyed it.

When considering why Catherine Howard put herself into the situation that she did, we have to remember what girls her age are like. When I was her age I ended up pregnant (at 16) and for no other reason than I thought only stupid girls made those mistakes. I had fantastic parents, did well in school, was made to be active at church and after-school activities and still made the careless error of thinking that it would never happen to me. That arrogance and boldness combined with the giddiness of new love, we lose our minds,or at least let our hearts overcome our minds. I hate that she made those choices, but she did live an exciting, passionate life. (I'm still happily married to my high-school sweetheart.24 years now with no one beheaded). 😊

That was my thought as well. Teenagers often believe they're invincible just due to lack of experience in the world. I'm guessing that's part of what went on with Catherine Howard.

@Morna777 It would be so interesting to.meet her. I imagine her as the prettier of her friends, a group of privileged 'mean girls'. Not to say she was hateful deep down but I can defbsee her and her crew running things in a household with little adult supervision. 😉Older Henry didn't stand a chance!

This is such a good podcast. I'm so glad I found some in depth discussions about Tudor history!
    One tiny criticism though:
For your either or with Dr. Weir, why just Wolsey v. Cromwell...I would have said neither, Thomas More

Alison Weir is a great historian. Matthew Lewis is a complete propagandist.
