    We bought 2 of these. Mini Mags had an 8% failure to fire rate. Took the failed rounds and tried them in 2 other pistols. Still would not fire. Seems CCI has some quality issues. Not one Winchester round of any type would eject. Failure to feed in several other brands. Found Aguila Super Extra and Blazers worked pretty much flawlessly. With the right ammo, this thing is a joy to shoot.

    I love that this pistol has a safety. When I use a kydex waistband holster, I keep my thumb against the lip of the holster as I draw. This causes the safety to hit my thumb and disengage on the draw. It’s a very nice feature.

    I picked up an LCP II 22 LR yesterday from Academy and found very neat machinery on all its parts and no metal shavings anywhere. Took it apart, clean and lube , I went to the range today and tried it and it went boom, every time. Sights were good and on target. Neat little lite gun, love it. I also own the original LCP and worked fine for years, no problem.

      Unfortunately it will fail you when you need it.
      As the man said here .22 will unfortunately fail. Murphy's Law.
      If something can go wrong it will and will do so at the worst possible time.
      I would love to have my wife be able to carry a .22 for self defense because she shoots it comfortably but the rim fire ammo just isn't worth the risk.
      IMHO

    #1. There was only one kind of cartridge that ran well with my LCP 22lr - 40 grain CCI minimags. What did not work well - CCI 36 grain minimags, CCI velocitors, stingers, golden bullets, and a Winchester round. My first LCP 22lr I returned after 600 rounds for constant failures to feed. #2. I found the holster came out with the gun if I had baggy pockets. #3. Loading can bite at your thumb, but with a little practice it is no big deal. I like my LCP 22lr

    Great review. I love mine, it's a good companion for my .380 LCPII, as I pretty much hate to practice with the .380. So far I've had no problems with Mini Mag or Velocitor. I'd feel fairly confident at this point carrying it with the Velocitor ammo. 10 or 11 rounds can be unleashed in very short order, and a spare mag can fit in a watch pocket. It's really, really fun to plink with.

      People debate this endlessly. I'm pretty sure that most thugs would break off an attack after being hit with just one 22lr. My thought on this is a gun comes out of nowhere, bang, pain in the chest. Now, what goes through their mind? "What caliber was that?" "That wasn't too bad, I'll just walk it off." "Did you just shoot me with a 22?". I doubt it. Most likely "oh $(-)!'!' I've been shot!" And "I better get out of here because I'm sure there's more where that came from". Those that don't get the message at that point probably wouldn't, even being hit with a 45acp. You'd need something serious like a 44 mag or a cns hit to get their attention. My only problem with a 22 for personal defense is the reliability issues.

    My LCPII is a .380 and runs like a champ, great EDC for a senior citizen. My only concern for their .22 model is the big IF consistent w/rim fire ammo, failure to fire. Even w/CCI IF that happens you’ll have to rack the slide during an attack and you may not be able to do that (I’ve survived three deadly force incidents). I’d only recommend this for someone who could not handle the recoil of a center fire weapon. Great info packed review.

    My brother bought this pistol and he let me shoot it. I also have it in .380 and the LCP ii in 22 has no recoil to speak of and it is accurate as hell with cci stingers. I was hitting full size silhouette target out to 25 yards constantly and the only thing I would do is just paint the front sight and maybe add a laser and keep this as a backup gun.

    Great review. This pistol is super lightweight and is perfect for pocket-carry in light shorts. It's very reliable and accurate, and it's easy to rack and shoot. Per Captain Obvious: While a .22LR is not the first choice for self-defense, no one (and I do mean no one) wants to get shot with a .22LR. Yes, a .22LR in your pocket is better than the .45 than that you left at home when you need a gun.

    And the safety sucks. The very reason I will not buy one of these. Cool looking little gun. The sr22 is going to get someone killed with the upside down safety! I want to like Ruger and they do some good work.
    My question is why can't the make a safety design that makes sense and STAY WITH IT.
    The SR22 goes up for safety off instead of down now this is different from that.
    They seem very confused with all these pistol models and I believe that is hurting them.

  • @ChrisHirner

    Mine had me pulling my hair out for a couple months. it would have some kind of failure on every mag. Long story short it was the extractor spring. on mine the extractor would not grab the round at all. if it did cycle it was blowback kicking the round out. Put in an aftermarket extractor spring super simple and now its as reliable as my Ruger sr22 which has never failed me. guess i got a bad one but its an easy cheap fix

    I really like mine for plinking. I could never use it as my EDC because the safety shouldn't be there. Also, the magazine disconnect on rare occasions prevents me from pulling the trigger without smacking the magazine and that just can't happen on an EDC. The light rack and 10 round capacity is great. It also shoots everything I have tried in it. I love the trigger pull on the LCP2. I will continue to EDC my LCP1 380. I think they had it right for its intended purpose the first time around (although that trigger is 8 lbs).

    Two things: Ruger should have included a very small tool to help with removing take down bolt and 2, should have made magazines with a lever that makes it easy to keep bullets and follower down when loading. Two very easy corrections and ur good to go.

      I used a bit of Testors "Flourescent Orange" I got @ Michaels...but other stores (Hobby Lobby?) likely have it also.
      However, what I REALLY wanted to carry in this gun was Federal Punch -- only works about 80% of the time (probably due to the longer case and FN), not at all reliable enough so Punch is out for CARRY ammo. Slow Fire, that is: If I shoot them as fast as I can, they ALL cycle properly, just won't do so with slower/aimed fire. Weird.
      Anyway, will just depend on Mini Mags (high-velocity 40gr solids). But it does seem to shoot other ammo I've tried w/o issue also: Remington Golden Bullets (40gr RN), Federal Black Pack (36gr HPs, which MAY be identical to CCI's 36gr HP Mini-Mags).

All weak strikes but no fire. I took some and rechambered and they then fired on the 2nd try. Brands were: federal hunter match, federal bulk ammo, remmington bulk ammo, cci mini mag, cci standard velocity, browning bulk (most offensive), and eley club because it was on hand. I expect to break in a pistol but my confidence in dependability is waning this time. Are other people’s results better?
    Accuracy is nice considering
    Also, I tried single handed and double to eleminate grip issues for blowback varience. All the ammo on hand is new and fires reliably in other firearms I use

      gee, I hate to send it back! I am the kind of guy who eats a steak no matter how it’s cooked.
      How many round in your opinions is thoroughly broken in?
      Funny thing too is I remarked on how much oil was in the firing pin mechanism when I first inspected it out of the box. Oil pumped out when the pin was pushed manually. Then later found out it isnt reliable.
      The barrel crown, slide, and other parts still have machining burrs on them. They are bad enough to catch cotton fibers from a wipe down. Im not disappointed with this pistol but this all adds up to make me wonder

    Ruger is better to improve the take down system on this gun. The ridiculous, difficult, and long outdated, take down pin that they use on this otherwise well thought out gun, is unacceptable for the modern pistol. The best and easy takedowns are on Beretta 92fs, on Glock, on Sig Sauer 226, etc.
    Also, if they would use firing pin in the form of the round hammer head, instead of the flat blade, they would improve the chances of ignition of the rimfire ammunition, as well as the longevity of the firing pin.

    Did you try CCI stingers ?

    • @Vaille32
      @Vaille32 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The barrel is 2.75.” Stingers are 36 grain. The extra powder they would use doesn’t burn; it blows out the muzzle. The net result is a lighter slug powered by an average amount of fuel. Stingers are no good w/ this gun; the barrel is simply too short. Stingers are truly intended for rifles, where all the powder will burn. I do have them in my Walther P22, however. The barrel is ~4.5” and I have a compressor on it.

    • @ChrisHirner

      I wouldn’t call it better than the SR22 because it’s a different class of pistol. Pocket 22 vs tactical 22. The SR22 I think is definitely more versatile and can handle multiple task. The LCPII is more mission oriented.

      If i owned neither and wanted a great gun to build my trigger time the sr22 wins hands down. But if you want deep concealment or just a great conversation starter at the range the lcp 22 is a great gun for that. Heck during the ammo shortage the sr22 has just about payed for itself. Ill shoot about 30 rounds of 9mm, then switch to the sr22 to practice the fundamentals. I own em both and they are always in my range bag even when im just out to shoot the 9 and 40sw.

    Would not recommend that for self defense, but not for the reason you think. it's just a very fragile, poorly built gun. The firing pin in mine exploded. Stopped firing and I found out the the pin had split in half and I had to replace it with a stronger aftermarket pin. That was it. It started firing again. Would not recommend it. It just isn't built to be reliable. The LCR 22, however, I would give a try

  • @bill4573
    @bill4573 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have had my LCP II 22lr for about a little over a year, fired about 250-300 CCI mini mags through it and it broke. I couldn't pull the trigger., it was like it never reset. Sent it back to Ruger, got it back in less than ten days. They said the trigger bar was replaced. I fired it yesterday (total rounds since I got it back was about 250 -300) and, IT BROKE AGAIN. Same issue, trigger felt like it never reset. Anyone else have these issues? I think Ruger is more intent on getting guns out the door rather than making quality guns. It wasn't like this when Bill Ruger was alive.

    • @slayer8actual
      @slayer8actual 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've sold many of these in past couple of years and I have yet to get even one back for repairs. The only complaints I've ever heard of from customers is that it can be picky on ammo which can be a problem at this time due to the difficulties in getting particular brands. There's plenty of cheap stuff out there, but the quality ammo can be hard to find.
      Others have told me that it fires anything they put in it. Regardless, as far as anything breaking - not one complaint or return. It's odd that you got two bad parts in a row, but unfortunately, it sounds like you might have just gotten very unlucky this time around.
      I don't know how you treat guns that have failed, but once a gun lets me down in practice, I find it very difficult to regain that trust especially if it's intended to be a carry gun. I have lots of fun plinking guns but I would never carry them. I know this is going to hurt some feelings but I had a Glock jam up on me in a firefight while in Iraq and even though I still like them and have many different models, I don't carry one, nor will I ever. That one incident left a very bad taste. Still a great gun, but you might say I've 'lost that loving feeling."
      Hope you get that back with your Ruger. I think it's a very good gun and would have no problem carrying one should the need arise for a very small pocket gun.

If its still not feeding well try a aftermarket spring under the extractor. Mine had issues before this otherwise its been good
