I just googled it and that amazing Japanese BBQ place is only 80 miles from my house in San Diego. Hoping to take my daughter (who is a mini Amber) for lunch next weekend.
I'm glad that I was able to witness f(x) in the early years. It's just so sad that she left SM, well it's for her own good but mind you f(x) hasn't disbanded, the members just left their agency. I salute Amber for her transparency and good nature despite of what she has been through as a kpop idol (losing a member, being back-slashed by the society, hiatus of their group for many years, her works getting rejected by her own agency, etc.) She came out stronger and kinder after all adversities. While there’s no official disbandment, the group has personally disbanded. Amber moved onto do greater things in America. Vic is workin it in China as an actress. Luna is going strong as an idol. And Krystal is doing pretty great herself. But I’m sure after Sulli left the group, left SM, and passed away that none of these women are thinking of getting back together as f(x).

Even after sulli left f(x) they did get back together once as 4 and even had plans to comeback when they still had contract time with SM but SM didn’t discuss with them which made all the plans fell thorough. Seriously I miss f(x) soooo much. The sisterhood is beautiful. Amber has always been my bias and I like how she gets along with everyone, girls and guys, and she doesn’t even try hard, her personality is charming, down to earth and kind. And I like the vibe of this video, both Mike and Amber are so nice and respectful, totally enjoyed watching this!

Besides Amber being Taiwanese American, her group also has a Korean American, a Chinese, & a Korean. The former member that recently passed away was also Korean.) The group hasn't been able to be active or put out new stuff for a few years but Amber has been doing a lot of solo & collab music. Mostly it's her own stuff, in English, written or cowritten by her. I think all the recent collabs are Eglish too. I especially love: Perfect by James ft Amber, & Get Myself by Fyke ft Amber. Older collabs I love: Breathe Again (English lyrics, but a crazy rock song collab with Japanese DJ Ksuke) & Fantasy by Superfruit ft Amber. If you don't know Superfruit, it's the side group formed by 2 Pentatonix members.

Just like pop in any other language, there are different subgenres & influences in kpop. Saying all kpop sucks is like saying all pop in any other language sucks, which makes no sense. 3. Just because a genre of music is not your personal taste doesn't mean it's bad.

Amazing episode, you're better than professional interviewers, Mikey! Love the relaxed atmosphere and combining conversation with food. Never been exposed to Amber before and don't follow Kpop but this episode really showcased her personality and makes me want to become a fan!
Her solo stuff is mostly English, particularly what she's put out the last few years, & while it's influenced by kpop, it's not kpop. She actually loves assorted genres & gets influenced by a lot of things. And though her group f(x) is considered kpop, it always had a heavy EDM influence, & with Amber being SM's 1st tomboy allowed to dress (mostly) how she liked, they are still well known for helping 2nd generation kpop to break expectations & get more international fans.
Great video as always! I've never heard of Amber Liu and I'm really not into KPop (more of a metalhead), however what I was really struck by is how intelligent she clearly is. I expect she's a polymath. I think she would have been a success at whatever she chose to do.

I'm an american from wyoming and I took a lot from this video when you guys were talking about mental health.. I love your videos and though I dont listen to kpop or anything like that I'm definitely going to be looking her up because like you she seems like a very genuine soul.
