As for Rich Kleiman, I remember when Durant was at his Hamptons home listening to offers for his talents. He didn’t even take a phone call from the Knicks before signing with the Warriors. Yet Mills chased after him again like a clown. Just cause Mills had no shot (as we all know) doesn’t mean he didn’t try because that WAS his 1 and 1A plan. The trade had to be done. He wanted to play when they were essentially out of playoff contention. They didn't want to risk reinjuring his knee. Also, this was the season were KD and Kyrie became free agents and their was a chance that the knicks can land them. The needed to clear the cap space which is why he was traded to get rid of Tim Hardaway and Courtney Lee's contract.

This guy feels like a better version of Robert Parish for the Celtics, and how he fits in to the team. Big difference is he has the long range shot. But the skinny, good defense/rim protection, ability to score in the post, and not needing to dominate the shots all game really harkens back to the way Parish fit with the Celtics in the 80s.

You can blame the NY front office like many Knicks fans are in the comments. And you know I’d be almost willing to accept that but bruh they gave KP away in Dallas. Didn’t even try to boost the value or demand equal value. Two teams sent him packing early on in the process. Knicks offered him an extension and I’m assuming his camp said no so why wouldn’t the front office have a trade package on standby. They’d be dumb if they didn’t.

On draft night Porzingis was all about how he wanted to play for the Knicks, that it was his dream, that he wanted to be in New York specifically and now we know, years later, that it was all a smokescreen, that he really could've cared less. Kind of eye opening when you think about how it all turned out. It also is a good window into why it's so hard drafting the right players for a franchise when these players have been prepped and rehearsed by their agents/teams what to say to NBA front office personnel. It's never just about talent -- KP clearly had some character issues coming in and those are really hard to suss out and maybe now, after several injuries and trades, he is much more his authentic self and comfortable -- however it doesn't do the Knicks any good. I'm thoroughly convinced now even if Phil Jackson wasn't train wrecking the Knicks FO, KP would've ended up asking his way out eventually since his ego was in the pilot's seat back then.
