1983 Yamaha RX50 Carb Upgrade! (Works with YSR50 too!)

  • In this video I piece together a carb upgrade for my sister's Yamaha RX50. I was looking for a setup that retained the factory oil injection and looked otherwise factory appearing. Parts used were DT100 carb and manifold. Almost a direct bolt in and ride! Installed on an otherwise stock bike, +1 tooth on the front sprocket. Definitely wakes up this little shifty-fifty! Next step....Pipe

    I had a black RX50 Special when they were new and put over 10k miles on mine. My best friend has one also and he loved to put it through hell. New at redline in fifth gear it would hit about 58 MPH and I mean it was screaming and I was tucked down from the wind. I always hear they were always given away. I am proof that is not always true. Jim's Import Cycles of Wichita had two brand new and I learned that they were mopeds under state law. (under 50CC was the only requirement then. Now horsepower would make it a bike) I paid $900 and traded in my QT50 Yamaha and I am not sure what my friend paid for his. We went to hell and back many times and aside from cleaning the carbon off the top of the piston head every so often and fluids it never failed me once. I really miss that bike but to be honest its the memories attached to the bike that I miss most. Thanks for the memories. (They had a sign I remember in service: You Fix it, We make it run. )

      Very cool! love to hear stories like this thank you for sharing. Hoping my sister has great memories on hers too. The bike takes a licking and keeps on ticking! Love the service sign lol

      You got to get yourself one. That engine is strong even stock. Revs like a sport bike…..but at reasonable speeds

    Really to find the torque on the two bolt YSR version. Was really hoping these were the same. Manual mentions the torque for the four carb joint bolts, but not for the two that secure the carb to that. :-(

    I just aquired a 1982 with 284 miles!!! In Black. Got it for $400 at a garage sale! Obviously it's been sitting and I have had lots of headaches with the factory carb and stumbled on this video while researching options. Thanks for posting this!!! Could you provide links to the carb and manifold you used? This thing looks to be a blast to ride! If you could report your final settings for jets, that would save me a ton of work and be much appreciated.

      Wow $400 is an absolute steal! Congratulations!! It's a very fun bike and especially cool you found one in black. I sourced the carb and manifold off eBay. Both are off a Yamaha DT100. If none are available you can sign up for emails on eBay when one becomes available

      @@HunterSkiff Ah. Okay. I had been looking on Amazon and there are several available aftermarket from China. I was hoping you found one package that worked well...... It was a good deal, but no title. I did get a Bill of Sale, so I should be able to get a bonded title pretty easy. I originally passed on it because I didn't know anything about it. The owner told me the history and said it was a raffle bike. I went home and dug around on the internet and found some info and decided to go back and buy it. Only 2000 made! Crazy!

    I’m gonna need a replacement stator for one that I’m probably about to buy. Anybody know what kind it needs so I can buy the right one?

    Hi great video thanks for sharing...i am doing the exact same thing on my ysr... Have the Reed block etc... Can I ask why a bigger main jet? I would have thought smaller because its a lot bigger carb.. I have put the carb on with the jets it came with.... Wide open throttle it flys but when you slow down its not so great... Maybe I need smaller idle jet.. Like you did... What position did you have the needle set? Tia

    • @airdreams1
      @airdreams1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not sure where he set his but your needle should be roughly in the center. One up or 1 down would be the maximum adjustment adjustment you would ever want to make.

      DT100 carb came with a 120-125 jet? I dont remember honestly.. I kept going up in jet and the bike kept picking up power and running cooler. with 210 jet it would 4 stroke. 205 better but still a little temperamental. 200 seems to be the sweet spot. If you hang it out at 8000rpm for a few mins the cylinder head temps will crest 350*F. plug looks great.

    Please do yourself a huge favor and throw that stock airbox in the trash where it belongs. If you want the bike to actually get-up-and-go you need to put a K&N or highly modify the stock airbox.
    As for your question on the pipe, ADG will not be a direct bolt on. It would have to be modified I'd that that's because it hangs completely underneath of the AYSR50.ADG will not be a direct bolt on. • @HunterSkiff

      Funny you say that. If you notice in the video I say I'm going to hook up to the factory airbox, but in the next clip the carb isn't connected to the airbox. There was no way I could get the bike to run, let alone drive trying to feed the DT100 carb through the stock airbox. It just wouldn't rev, wouldn't move etc. So I scraped that idea. Thank you for the info on the DG pipe! I will check my FB later tonight and get back to you. You saved me some money lol. Might have to have a pipe made then its sounding like

    • @airdreams1
      @airdreams1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly keep the airbox but just put it away somewhere. When you sell the bike if it's a 100% stock original parts it's worth more money.

    I have one and are the lights and all supposed to stay off until the engine starts or is something wrong with mine? No nothing until it fires up, then everything comes on but kill it, and lights all go out. Is this how a 6v system works?
