Of course the Taliban's interpretation is skewed since these extremely totalitarian Sharia laws are a result of bin Abdul Wahhab's innovations from the 18th century. They were not at at all common in Islam's 1400 year long history. The Saudis eventually exported the Salafist ideology into Afghanistan in the 1980s with CIA-support. There was no Taliban-style movement banning music in Afghanistan BEFORe the 1980s.
Because Islam, like Christianity and other religions, is not uniform and has one school of thought. We have different sects, schools of thoughts, and more. So of course we have deviants like these extremists Its like being surprised when Christians speak out against Westboro nuts here in the states.
