I like how he's brutally honest and stern, but doesn't give up on his patients
They need brutal honesty because part of the way they got here was by people coddling them lying to them, consoling them enabling them. And telling them what they wanted to hear.
Hes kinda closed minded on the "your not eating less bc ur not losing weight" bc she could be eating fatty foods and eat less and prolly drinking certain drinks. Also he tried giving up on that black lady which is pretty bs. You can argue to say its bc hes used to ppl lying, but again you could talk better and help confront them, maybe help them not feel stressed out bc then they might think hes bs bc of it being on TV

When he say you are not eating less , he doesn't mean less amount of food but less calories in general. There is a percent of these people that can't be helped , he can't save them all so there is no point in wasting time on these that just don't care and don't want to change , while he can actually save someone in that time.

@Cool Turtle Most doctors become doctors because they genuinely want to help people. But once a doctor starts talking harshly to patients because the patients aren't willing to try to help themselves even a little bit, then it's a sign that the doctor is getting fed up. It makes the doctor feel worthless and like he is wasting his time. Doctors are humans, too
@@coolturtle7847he’s a bariatric surgeon and he’s been working with these patients for over 20 years he’s gonna be hard on everyone who doesn’t follow what he’s giving them to do. everyday surgeons having to deal with crucial obesity problems and they don’t seem to be doing a fasting diet to help lose weight if you don’t obey what he asks you to do, then they’ll just put you out and try to relocate you to a different hospital

If you’re eating the right thing you dont need to worry about portion control. The processed food with all of the chemicals is creating a metabolic disease and brain chemical dependency on whatever is in the food and if nobody can see that this is a problem then the Dr. playing dumb and the people watching are just as stupid as whatever anyone thinks the VICTIMS suffering from a chemically induced metabolic disorder from American processed food.
I know this comment is a year+ old, but you're so right. I gained 50 lbs from becoming a functioning alcoholic during the early days of the pandemic, but I kept saying "but I'm not eating much!" and truly I wasn't, but it's like my brain would not let me acknowledge the calories (and everything else) that came from alcohol. Doing much better today than then, I can't believe how hard I worked to ignore my real problem.

Poor Dr Now, it must be so frustrating for him. All that money spent on a gastric bypass, and then he can’t be bothered.
I understand you get addicted and depressed, but if you decide to go on this program surely you’d want to succeed. I’m surprised they’re not all put through counselling first to help give them the best opportunity.
Some people would love the opportunity to have Dr Now to help them.
I’m not convinced that’s a man. He has no hair growth at all on his face or on his arms.
Generally the councelling is used to help keep the momentum going once the weightloss starts to diminish as they get down in weight and thus calories burned per day just for existing as well as the metabolism adjusting. Im not sure if theres any proof that thats the most efficient method but I think the reasoning is that pre surgery the motivation of wanting the surgery should be enough and immediately after surgery rhe encouragement of the recent sucess suffices so saving the councelling means they have something to put in to give an extra push later.

Easier to piss away opportunity when it not your own hard earned $$$ that have afforded it.
They make you take a psych evaluation before going throughout all the tests for wls. Normally you’re supposed to go to a program for 6 months prior to surgery, with dieting and changing your eating habits similarly to what they will be post op. The last 2 weeks are gonna be a full liquid diet, just broth and protein shakes. That’s how it was in my experience, at least. I had the gastric sleeve, however.
The absolute best part about Dr now is that he's not even a little bit trying to be so savage. He's just fully 100% willing to say everything exactly as it is and get his facts out whatever it takes. And it just so happens that every line he throws out is phenomenal 🤣🤣
These videos never get old. It’s truly fascinating to see the amount of delusion someone must have to get to such a massive size. Binge eating disorder is an eating disorder like anorexia and bulimia and as someone who suffers from bulimia, the thought process and denial with these people is very reminiscent of that of bulimia. The key difference being that they simply don’t purge or starve, but rely on food for comfort.
Some of them do have mental health issues delusions like that aren’t how mentally stable people are almost every person on this show has some sort of mental illness which infact causes them to have an addiction to food.
Whether you suffer that illness or not you can’t sit here and say they don’t suffer from a mental Illness cause they choose not to follow through it’s almost as if your saying I suffer from this and I don’t do that so they shouldn’t cause they suffer from nothing you cannot say that about someone put yourself in their shoes cause some are seriously mentally ill

Dr. Now is great, he doesn't shout or criticise or pass judgement right away, just focusing on patient's condition. These savage moments happen only after the patients had said or done smth incorrectly.
I am a former binge eater. The truth is, it's not the eating that is the problem. There are severe psychological issues that cause it.

Very very true. I'm currently struggling with it but it's easier not to binge when you are at university and have set times where you can eat. I haven't been on a scale because I find it triggering but I can definitely tell that I'm losing weight. I just pray that when I go home for summer break that I don't start up again.

Food addiction is so hard. Imagine an alcoholic who has to live/work in a bar that gives drinks away for free. Junk food is unavoidable. It's everywhere.
His diet plan sucks. So food addiction is not necessarily the issue for his patients.
There are much better and more sustainable diets out there, such as Low carb-High fat diets and intermittent fasting.

I recently watched an episode of the two people shown in this first clip, and I was upset by his sabotaging his girlfriend to get her bypass surgery, and eating all the wrong food in front of her purposely as she struggled to stay focused on her diet for her own surgery for weight loss.
It makes me sad that there are doctors in America that won't deal with obesity, and very few do.

Sucks to be so pessimistic about a fellow human being's potential, but I just cannot see her ever putting in enough sincere effort to accomplish anything of significance toward qualifying for bariatric surgery. I quickly went from 165 to 260lbs. Realized it was a problem as I approached 300lbs and started meal planning. 250-500 calories per meal (3 meals a day) plus a few healthy snacks per day (banana, apple, orange, or edamame). I rapidly went from 260 down to 203. I didn’t even exercise for much of it, the weight just melted off.
I imagine just a controlled diet could do most of these people wonders and they could skip all the heartache.
I’m 5’3” and 132 lbs and can fluctuate 5 lbs either way depending on diet and activity
I eat like a bird - but I’m also strong and fit -
I also meal plan based on energy and how I feel -

I wish I had your problem. I lost so much weight since my kidney failed. If I don't regain some of it, I won't be put on a transplant list. It's been hard.

This Dr is making miracles. I can't imagine how hard it is. Every day he battles mindsets in order to save lives. The weight is an issue but HOW they got there...those are the issues that hold people back.

@@shisedoll I went over the top for 5 months I checked my bloods five times a day,and if my bloods were over 6.1 mmo/l or 110 mg/dL I would not eat, which meant I sometimes only ate one meal a day,low carbs, I only check my bloods once a week now and I have a few more carbs.being 6ft4in,I was starting to look to thin,and I’ve managed to maintain my weight to 187lbs for a month now
I got diagnosed October 2022, I’ve adopted a similar approach to yours and the results are amazing. Well done! We’ve got this 💪

As somebody who had a lot of issues with addiction, this is the kind of tough love that these people need. They're addicted to food. They need someone to point out all the issues so that they can be addressed instead of dancing around the real issues, whether it be psychotherapy, diet, or exercise.
It’s funny to see at first but then it just gets dizzare and sad to watch
This Dr. is being real and firm because he knows when addiction is talking. He receives so many overweight patients that he takes no crap from them. Truly is so scary and sad. Mad respect for his work and saving lives.

Just proves surgery is not the answer.
You have to deal with the mental and physical eating habits, actually teach them why their eating habits are wrong, and show them how to change it.
Surgery is HALF the answer--it resets a lot of the endocrine processes and makes it very hard to overeat. The other necessary half is self-discipline. No way around that. Most of these people got where they are by denying their own agency and they delude themselves into thinking someone else can give them a magic operation and they can just continue to do what they want. Ain't happenin'.
If you’re not right mentally you won’t be physically. People are so naive to that.
See, I can understand the purpose of suergy to give a chance to someone who mightve lost mobility. But even then, they should go through counciling to ensure that when they loose however much to get to a wright were they can regain that mobility, they will continue on their weight loss journey.
That’s why he sends them to Psychotherapy first. But the majority of them blow off the counseling and just expect to get the surgery. They’re not willing to work on themselves mentally or physically. It’s a shame.
It's impossible for someone that obese to lose weight without the surgery, even when they change their habits. There is research about it and Dr. Now has explained that several times on the show.

He’s a great doctor. He’s straight forward and doesn’t beat around the bush. I’m sure his intentions are not to hurt peoples feelings on purpose, but sometimes the truth hurts regardless if you want to hear or or not. What good are feelings if your not alive to have them.

I've just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes inherited by my mother. Immediately I've cut out all soda juice coffee only drink water and unsweetened tea I eat low carbs all whole wheat and low portions...4 weeks later I've lost 14 pounds :) I'm going to keep it going! I'm not big but losing weight lowers risk of heart issues etc

I wouldn’t say it’s easy, I’d say it’s simple but hard. All you have to do is eat less, you don’t really need exercise, hell you don’t even need to eat a specific kind of food as long as your total calorie intake goes down. Most of dieting is psychological because you are changing your habits, you are forcing your body to adapt to a different diet and over time it adapts to that in the form of a smaller appetite. What complicates things is what eating means to people, and for many eating is a way to cope with their emotions, so eating for them is a lot stronger than for others. But yes being responsible and dedicated to change is the most important aspect
